In May 2010 the 31st edition of the Legnica Jewellery Festival SILVER will take place.
As every year the main event of the Festival will be International Jewellery Competition. This year theme is MINIMUM.

About the Artists is a cycle of retrospective presentations of distinguished personalities in jewellery art from Poland and abroad, including: A. Boss, Jacek Byczewski, A. Bandkowski, J. Bożek, S. Fijałkowski, P. Cieciura, Felicity Peters (Australia), J. Sokólski (Poland), H. O’Connor (USA), Esther Knobel (Israel), W. Tasso-Mattar (Germany), Pawel Kaczyński, M. Petry (UK), V.K. Silver Schools

Silver Schools is a cycle presenting the artistic oeuvre of jewellery art schools, their professors, graduates, students from Poland and abroad.

EXPO ‘BROOCHMANIA’ – Galerie Rob Koudjis, Amsterdam (NL) – 5 juin-3 juill. 2010

BROOCHMANIA
a project of Ädellab, the jewelry department of  Konstfack University College of Arts, Craft & design,  Stockholm - Here are the results of study about brooches that students have been doing during the last year.

« Ädellab, the jewellery department of the Konstfack University College of Arts, Crafts and Design in Stockholm has developed in recent years into one of the leading educational centers of its kind. The jewellery made by its graduates is as surprising as it is pioneering. The Rob Koudijs Gallery gladly accepted professor Karen Pontoppidan’s invitation to participate in the Broochmania project.
During the last school year, students closely studied every facet of brooches in a series of five workshops. The ultimate goal of Broochmania was the realization of pieces crystallized from the training that would be suitable to exhibition in a gallery. Ward Schrijver was invited to Stockholm to serve as the curator selecting pieces for the exhibition. He chose brooches from 13 artists, ranging from first-year students to recently graduated masters.
The diversity of the work is spectacular: colourful, complicated collages contrast with clearly recognizable forms; the techniques vary from wildly proliferating growth processes to montages using existing perforated material. The distinctive individuals who study at Ädellab learn to manipulate every aspect of the brooch phenomenon as a means of artistic expression. «  (Copyright Galerie Rob Koudijs)

WORKSHOP/ATELIER – Les rencontres du Fourneau (France), avec Monika Brugger – 5-11 sept. 2010

Les rencontres du Fourneau ont débuté leurs activités en 2009 avec un symposium où des artistes d’horizons et d’origines divers comme Eija Mustonen, Sophie Hanagarth, Géraldine Millo, Christophe Marguier, Marie Prunier,Marie Masson et Laurence Verdier ont travaillé pendant une semaine, ensemble et autour de leurs propres projets, sur le paysage Breton.

Cette initiative prend cette année la forme d’un atelier avec Monika Brugger, artiste accompagnateur. A l’avenir, ces deux rencontres – symposiums et ateliers,bisannuels pour le premier, annuels pour le second –s’organiseront sous la forme d’un séjour d’une semaine consacré à la recherche technique, thématique et symbolique autour du bijou et de l’ornement corporel, à travers les expressions plastiques les plus diverses.

Cette année, les ateliers se concentrent sur les recherches personnelles de chaque participant-e. Les points de départ des discussions seront les travaux de chacun-e, ses recherches et/ou ses bijoux et auront pour but de renforcer la lecture personnelle de son propre travail.
Durant les ateliers, et quelles que soient les formes d’expression que vous aller choisir, – techniques ou matériaux traditionnels, photographie, broderie, livre … – nous parlerons toujours du et autour du bijou “petit objet ouvragé et précieux“. Nous le fabriquerons pour nous y référer et
nous en détacher, pour mieux le réfléchir. Nous en parlerons pour lui donner son sens symbolique et intellectuel en tant que facteur social et discipline artistique avec leurs matérialités et formes construites. Les procédures de recherches permettront l’élaboration d’approches différentes et de points de vue nouveaux face à sa propre pratique et en dehors de ses repères habituels.

La semaine sera rythmée par des projets thématiques rapides, des conférences sur le bijou, des échanges sur des thèmes proposés par les participants-es ou par Monika Brugger.

L’élément du travail de Monika Brugger n’est pas d’abord la relation de la forme à la substance, mais plutôt l’idée, la catégorie, la tradition du langage. D’une certaine manière, son art est conceptuel. Il conduit à interroger le rapport des mots convenus aux choses fabriquées. (Pierre-Damien Huyghe, dans Monika Brugger Heimat, monographie édité par la Arnoldsche). Elle est orfévre-plasticienne, née en Allemagne en 1958 et vit en France depuis 1978. Ses oeuvres sont acquises par des collectionneurs privés et des musées tels Les Arts Décoratifs à Paris, le Fonds National d’Art Contemporain (FNAC) ou le Schmuckmuseum de Pforzheim en Allemagne. Elle partage aujourd’hui son temps entre l’enseignement du bijou, aussi bien dans la pratique que dans une approche théorique à l’ENSA de Limoges et à l’ESAD de Strasbourg, et son travail personnel est un travail de mise en place d’exposition comme en 2010, « Un peu de terre sur la peau », en tant que commissaire pour la Fondation entreprise Bernardaud. Frida Åberg’s expression combines poetic value with romantic memories.
The material and tactical qualities of her jewellery reveal strong intent and judgement and a most sensitive approach to making.
The beauty of her jewellery lives in the space between the inner and outer expression of the object. The pieces are created around a feeling. Hidden memories materialise into objects that simultaneously appear to be fragile and immortal, and behold a strangeness that will capture the viewer.

« My project started with the question; why do we wear jewellery? And after that came; why do I make jewellery?
Through asking these questions I have found answers, some are for me and others are universal.
It is the emotional value the jewellery contain that makes the whole difference, that makes it worth wearing. The dreams and memories, people and places that lives within, and the abilities that seeps into it when we wear it.
I have chosen the branch as a material to work with. The branch is a small part of the whole tree, with the wind in its leaves and the roots in the soil. The small piece still contains the memory of the whole tree, and some part of it is feeling the wind and the soil, still being a part of a tree.
