COUP de COEUR ! Miriam Rowe
« I am currently finishing my masters degree at Birmingham City University in Birmingham, England. I did my BFA in Jewelry and Metalworking at the University of Georgia in the USA and also studied jewellery and metalworking in Cortona, Italy. I’ve been really fortunate to be able to study at so many different places and I’ve always enjoyed letting my surroundings inform my work.
My interest in historical fashion and the decorative arts has given me a design agenda to pursue as I make my jewellery: I am interested in taking forms, patterns, and images from the rich history of fashion and decoration and reinterpreting these historical elements in a contemporary way and a modern material.
I am currently exploring the use of plaster as a main material in jewellery- I have figured out a way to modify the plaster so it is waterproof and extremely durable, making it suitable for jewellery production. »
