Anika Smulovitz – architectures en suspens
« My work draws on the rich history of the field of Metals/Jewelry. My work confronts the concepts of power, beauty, religion, and cultural value, while bringing insight to the discourse between material culture and contemporary society. My current research is focused on the non-neutrality of materials, the concept of aura, issues of adornment and the body.
The materials I use in my work depends on the concepts that I am exploring. I tend to gravitate towards working in silver and with fabric, however, I love to explore and have worked in wood, plastics, other ferrous and non-ferrous metals, and many other materials. » Anika Smulovitz
I am an artist, jeweler, metalsmith, and professor at Boise State University. I am also currently a member of the SNAG Board, and the Editorial Advisory Committee Liaison for Metalsmith magazine
