The jewellery by Gemma Draper is characterized by an artistic and philosophical approach. Her pieces can be seen as sculptural objects that invites dialogue and interpretation. By experimenting with material- and colour combinations she creates composite structures through poetic and abstract shapes.
LakeFortitude is a speculative work, where Gemma Draper explores doubt, opportunities, acceptance and escapism.
« When we try to answer the eternal question of what we want -and only have we become who we are because we have desired-, traditionally we have two forms of escapism. We can flee to the doubt about what we want, or we can escape that doubt. These two forms of doubt, these two shelters, coexist in all of us and it is not always so easy to separate them. Gemma Draper completed her Master of Fine Arts in 2009 at the Cranbrook Academy of Art. She is currently teaching art and design at IES Abroad Barcelona and working as an independent artist in her own studio.
