DECOUVERTE : architect Zaha HADID’s Glace Collection
In her collaborative collection with Swarovski, architect Zaha Hadid‘s jewelry creations share her larger works’ deconstructionist design aesthetic, as well as the dramatically sculpted contours informed by it.
A jewellery collection created for Atelier Swarovski – celebrating the dichotomy inherent in Swarovski’s beautiful crystal jewellery, juxtaposing the precision cut crystal of finished product against the subtle, organic forms that surround these materials in their natural state. Every item in this personal collection describes a unique moment in time.

The five-piece Glace collection—consisting of sinuous cuff bracelets, rings and a pendant necklace— infuses the Iraq-born architect’s trademark alien forms with sprays of colored crystals, which Hadid says exotic Birds of Paradise flowers inspired.

Swarovski’s guest-designed spring/summer line features pieces by other current design headline-grabbers, including Jason Wu, Matthew Williamson and Nicholas Kirkwood. As the only non-fashion designer in the collection, Hadid’s influence continues in the design world and beyond—though this isn’t the first wearable project for the Pritzker prize-winner. Last spring she teamed up with Lacoste for a special-edition line of footwear, which followed a 2008 collaboration with Brazil’s jelly shoe maker Melissa, in addition to another collection of jewelry with Swarovksi that year.
While not everyone might get to visit Hadid’s building projects (check out our coverage of Rome’s recently-completed MAXXI Museum and upcoming CityLife skyscraper in Milan, here’s one way to appreciate her work—up close and personal. (« cool hunting » web site)
