EXPO « Cosmic Artefacts » – Pieces of Eight Gallery, Melbourne (AU) – 6 Mars-7 Avr. 2012

Cosmic Artefacts

An exhibition by Alexi Freeman and Tessa Blazey
March 6 – April 7, 2012
Pieces of Eight Gallery

Pieces of Eight Gallery presents fashion designer Alexi Freeman and represented jeweller Tessa Blazey, collaborating on a major window installation that includes finished works and relics from their Autumn Winter 2012 ROCK STAR and Spring Summer 2012/2013 collaborations.

The installation features their AW12 Interstellar Gown, an elaborate metal gown featuring thousands of tiny gold rings embellished into a geometric formation – fit for a sci-fi goddess to traverse the celestial sphere.

A marriage between artisanal workmanship and technology, their latest collaboration for SS12/13 is meticulously constructed from intricately cut acrylic in vivid fluoro orange. This dress has also inspired a suite of jewellery pieces that will be installed concurrently at editionx.com.au from March 6.EXPO

Klassiker der Schmuck 2012
Jens Rüdiger Lorenzen, Deutschland

This year there will be a retrospective exhibition of the work of a « Modern Classic » designer. In 2012 the chosen designer is the German goldsmith Jens Rüdiger Lorenzen. Together with Francesco Pavan, Lorenzen was the first goldsmith to be awarded the Herbert Hofmann Prize, back in 1973. The award presentation ceremony, which this year is being held on Saturday, 17 March 2012, is always one of the highlights at SCHMUCK. Lorenzen, who was born in 1942 in Hagen, Westphalia, taught at the « Staatliche Zeichenakadamie » in Hanau from 1974 to 1985, while also acting as a visiting lecturer at the « Hochschule für Gestaltung » in Pforzheim, at which college he then, in 1985, took up an appointment as a professor. He continued to teach there in the jewellery design department until retiring in 2008.

With the cooperation of several artists who exhibit their works at different places in Munich during these ‘Jewellery Days’, on the evening before the start of the trade fair jewellery is being presented directly on the body. The jewellery stirs emotions and prompts diverse conversations. At the bar, artists, jewellery lovers and laymen meet; there is room for an animated exchange. SCHMUCK 2012- « The Sound of Silver » & « Brooches para las Chicas » – Galerie Elsa Barenyi, Munich (DE) – 15-18 Mars 2012

The Sound of Silver & Brooches para las Chicas, Students of the Royal Academy of Fine Arts Antwerp.

‘The Sound of Silver’ is a multimedia project that can be seen and heard.
Scrap material generously offered by the German silver manufacturer Robbe & Berking has been recycled by 30 students of the Royal Academy of Fine Arts Antwerp. The students were guided by Gisbert Stach, during a 5 days’ workshop. Tom De Cock, freelance percussionist guided the students in the world of sound. Adriaan Severins has recorded and edited the sound of the objects made by the students, silver plated by Robbe & Berking.

SCHMUCK 2012-

Brooches para las Chicas is the third edition of an academic project by the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Antwerp.
Students of the 2nd and 3rd bachelor courses at the jewellery department were asked to design and produce ornaments for a specific person. Past editions of the project have seen Walter Van Beirendonck, Marnick Smessaert, Anita Evenepoel and Marjan Unger portraying rings and necklaces produced by the Academy’s students.

This year the academy invited Surinam-born designer and jewellery artist Chequita Nahar and myself (Valeria Vallarta Siemelink) to commission the students to create a type of ornament that we both have found alluring and at the same time, foreign to our habitual choice of jewellery : brooches. Brooches are one the oldest type of jewellery and they are among the most frequently produced ornaments by contemporary jewelers : their possibilities are almost endless and its prominent area of display makes the brooch a remarkable media for communication. The students were challenged to produce brooches that would help us, commissioners, to become acquainted with the use of these ornaments and that could establish a relation with the geo-cultural area we come from, Latin America, and the place where we live now : Europe. Designing for another person starts at the Academy as an exercise that students will have to master through their entire careers as professional jewellery makers. Their ideas, experience and talents are faced with the tastes, dislikes and demands of someone they come to know through a few working sessions. This results in a great opportunity for the students to acquire real-life experience and for the audience to be treated with the promise of surprising young talents.
Valeria Vallarta Siemelink, Mexican architect, curator and author living in the Netherlands,
co-founder of the Otro Diseño Foundation

EXPO « White – Gold – Porcelain » – Ariane Hartmann Werkstattgalerie, Hagen (DE) – 11 Mars-28 Avr. 2012

The words WHITE – GOLD – CHINA build an associative chain. Each term generates its own memories. The achromatic color white stands for purity – innocence – virginity – infinity.

EXPO
Gold, the noble metal with his unique flair – wealth.

Porcelain – the white gold is a special material in contemporary jewelry. The unusual technique to burn china with silver, chains to be made of porcelain and the virtuosity of the ramification in silver.

Anna Kiryakova (BG), Violaine Ulmer (F) and Zwetelina Alexieva (BG) show works on the subject at Ariane Hartmann workshop gallery of contemporary jewelery and design.
