EXPO ‘Shifted Relations’ – Galerie V&V, Vienna (Austria) – 7 Nov.-3 Dec. 2012
« Shifted Relations »
Galerie V&V presents the exhibition « Shifted Relations“ – showing the work of Margit Hart - and Enter The Picture! – photos by Andreas Waldschütz
(During the whole evening of the “Schmucknacht” (6 NOV) pictures of the visitors are taken and simultaneously projected onto a large oval. Changing snapshots of the coming and going, conversations and encounters are to be seen on this “giant imaginary brooch”. These photos are partly blended with the original images Margit Hart is using for her jewels. Instant prints can be taken along by the visitors. A selection of the photos will be published at the gallery’s website after the event. )
The photographs selected for « Shifted Relations » emphasize the peculiar in the inconspicuous and small. The formats the artists have chosen and their selection of detail reinforce this focus.
Placing photographs on the human body as ornaments leads into a different dimension, opening up a new perspective on and engagement with the medium of photography. Wearing photographs on the body as pieces of jewelry affords both the wearers and those who regard this ornamentation a new way of making the pictures their own. Moving between environments, they continually take on new referential meanings. As wearers of this jewelry, we are thus actively involved in displacements of context.
The small format displaces the proportions as well; the splinters of reality the pictures capture are perceived in new ways, realities blur, undergo transformation, become something else. Jewelry is worn in different situations, in everyday life, far removed from galleries and museums—engendering manifold connotations and a wealth of interrelations we had not considered before.
Margit Hart‘s works turn the likeness, the photograph as such, into a treasure, if we want to use that term. No further adornments are necessary to create an ornament. (« Eyes On« )
