Bilk gallery - Chained - Thirteen Australian artists interpretation of “The Chain”

Movement, articulation and a nod to the historical reference to a reoccurring unit: the link. Or better than a string of pearls!
The results are as varied and imaginative as the makers, some are vibrant, others elegant and restrained with simple coloured lines. The artists have explored the theme in gold, titanium, silver, aluminium, glass, wood, recycled signs, all with an over riding link of movement as they beautifully fit the body.
A real chain of events now showing at Bilk Gallery –

EXPO ‘Pasticcio’ – Galerie Marianne Heller, Heidelberg (DE) – 20 Avril-4 Mai 2013

Tamara Grüner: Pasticcio

On the occasion of the Long Night of Museums in Heidelberg and at the same time with the exhibition of the ceramicist Gordon Baldwin the Gallery Marianne Heller shows jewelry art by Tamara Grüner.
The term Pasticcio is used in the history of art to describe works of art being composed of existing elements and parts which then form a new harmonious creation. That’s exactly what happens in the work of Tamara Grüner. We recognize a lot of the individual elements. We can relate them to the corresponding eras but we realize the intensity of the contemporary creation in their combination.
She gets enthused by the opulence and splendor of the shapes and ornamentation. Her clear analytic way of regarding things prevents her from immerging completely but to maintain a critical distance that is necessary to create the suspension an orginary work needs. The mixture of intensive and serious discussion about material, shape and history, the humour that twinkles from time to time and the skill to transform supposed old-fashioned things or kitsch into a modern style make the jewellery of Tamara Grüner to something very special – the finest Pasticcio.

EXPO ‘Catching Big Fish’ – Beyond Fashion, Antwerp (Belgium) – 25 Avril-22 Juin 2013

Karin Roy Andersson : Catching Big Fish

There is something magnetic with the undiscovered world of the oceans. Frightening, exciting and with the beauty that comes with the tension between these feelings. Welcome to the opening of Catching Big Fish at Beyond Fashion.

Karin Roy Andersson: Catching Big Fish Artists: Karin Roy Andersson Management: Karin De Buysere and René Darmont Place: Beyond Fashion (Antwerp, Belgium) 25-Apr-2013 - 22-Jun-2013 website: www.beyondfashion.be(Karin Roy Andersson – Bracelets: Catching Big Fish 2013 – Recycled plastics, textile - Photo: Sanna Svedestedt)

« I love fish; their shape, fens and the pattern of the fish scale. I am intrigued by how they move, their bodies and faces and their, in our eyes, exceptional behaviour. In a society where the view on what is normal is still quite conservative, the way some fish species change sex, size and identity gives you a new perspective.
A few years ago I started working with scales making chains of thin silver flakes. Now some of the scales have grown larger and I have added elements of recycled plastics. To me the pieces looks like traces from an intense struggle catching a big fish. When adding the plastic I sadly realized that jumping into the ocean you might be more likely to end up with plastics on your body than scales from a fish.  »

EXPO ‘TWEEX I’ – Vander A Gallery, Bruxelles (BE) – 26 Avril-25 Mai 2013

TWEEX 1

Opening: 25.04.2013  from 18:00 to 21:00

An overview of knowledge transfer around « designer jewellery »    With the participation of  La Cambre, Brussels  – IATA, Namur – St. Lucas University College of Art & Design Antwerp – and artist Félix Roulin.

TWEEX 1 26.04.2013 - 25.05.2013 Opening: 25.04.2013 from 18:00 to 21:00 An overview of knowledge transfer around "designer jewellery" With the participation of La Cambre, Brussels IATA, Namur St. Lucas University College of Art & Design Antwerp and Félix Roulin.

For over a year, the young « vander A » gallery has been showing the work of visual artists and contemporary art jewellery creators. Now, in partnership with the non-profit workshop « Néon Atelier », run by Bernard François, it is to host a stunning display of the knowledge transmitted by masters of « designer jewellery » to their students in Belgian colleges and academies.
Three brand-new exhibitions will be held at the « vander A » gallery from 26 April to 25 May 2013, in September 2013 and in January 2014.
As a young, multidisciplinary genre, contemporary art jewellery is an art form in its own right, and it is undoubtedly part of our heritage.
Is the new generation of Belgian creative artists, or of foreign creators trained in Belgium, making a clear break with the know-how? Do they feel the need to venture beyond these skills, much as our master craftsmen once sought to break with the techniques of traditional jewellery, or do they just want to own them differently?
Probing the influence and role of knowledge in present-day creations, the « vander A » gallery presents the Belgian colleges and art academies frequented by artists who wish to specialise in the traditional and/or modern techniques used in contemporary jewellery.
At a time when young creators often train abroad and no longer really show any specifically national traits, we urgently need to improve our communication of our heritage, assert our undeniable mastery of this art and make known our current contribution to the international scene.
