PREZIOSA 2013 includes two side events at the main exhibition (« Un Certain Regard »), offering visitors additional opportunities for reflection on contemporary jewellery :

- Wearable!
Photo exhibition of worn contemporary jewellery.
The exhibition of jewellery is complemented by a photographic project of the show itself.
The need to show how these jewels can be worn in everyday life, how they interact with the people and with the surrounding space, has led to a specific concept, project, which has been developed using the skill and sensitivity of the particular photographer Eva Sauer.
Twelve jewels, which will be shown in the exhibition, will be chosen, worn and set in particular places of the city of Florence.
The twelve pictures will be displayed in the Museo Marino Marino inside PREZIOSA exhibition, and will also be present in the places where the photos were taken, so as to establish a mutual connection between the exhibition space and the town.

 

- PREZIOSA Young 2013

The work of the 8 emerging artists selected based on their personal research in contemporary jewellery, will be the “Young” section of PREZIOSA 2013.
Karin Roy Andersson — Wan Hee Cho — Rob Elford — Benedikt Fischer — Panjapol Kulpapangkorn — Chiara Scarpitti — Antje Stolz — Lauren Vanessa Tickle are the young artists selected between the 220 participants to the worldwide contest.

« Des objets de la vie quotidienne, solides, durables et peu coûteux, sans statut particulier, se transforment en bijoux fragiles, délicats, élégants et nobles. Des bijoux qui sont parfois le résultat de la matérialisation d’un état personnel et émotionnel. Dans le processus de création rigoureuse, ce sont souvent les matériaux, les couleurs et les formes qui guident la main. Le point de départ est l’utilisation de la céramique comme matière, qu’il s’agisse de la porcelaine ou du grès, à laquelle les artistes associent le verre, le métal, la laine, le caoutchouc, le plastique ou toute sorte de matière pour rendre ces bijoux plus excitants. »

Coup de coeur : Francesca FLYNN « Out of the BLUE »

For Out The Blue (nov 2012) Kath Libbert has chosen nine new BA and MA graduates from all over the UK:  ‘Spotting and then supporting the work of cutting edge new graduates has always been extremely central to the ethos of the gallery.  Forging a career straight out of college is really challenging. Now, more than ever, it is vital to exhibit and encourage these incredibly talented jewellers at this formative stage in their careers. In this Olympic year we think we can spot a winner….the gold medalists of the future!’

Francesca Flynn, Glasgow School of Art, whose sparkling crystalline collection epitomizes the title of the exhibition, Out The Blue, explores the facets of natural and constructed crystals creating vibrant jewellery.

« I use a combination of metals, moulded resin, rubber coatings, wood and crystal elements. My work explores themes of fragility and impermanence which are developed into wearable objects. I am a graduate of 2012 and will be Artist in Residence at Glasgow School of Art for 2012/13 »

« My interest in the combination of art and science combined with a childhood fascination with rocks and fossils led me to experiment with crystal growth.  I used this initially as a visual source, which then developed as a method and material for creating work.  The vivid blue hue of copper sulphate crystals inspired the colour of resin for this collection.  My work explores the beauty and impermanence of crystals that I have grown and the fragility of natural crystals. I recreate these forms in resin and metal to make my own amalgamated formations which become stable, wearable objects. »
