Y’a un OS ………..

« Y’a un OS » ….

this expression (« Il y a un os » or « tomber sur un os » [to hit a snag]) means that there is a problem when you « find a bone » … but the dog seems happy when finding a bone ??! why men are not happy ??

But, with this post, perhaps women will be happy when « finding bones » ! ;-)

Niki Ulehla - Artist Opening Reception Saturday June 8, 5-8pm June 8 - July 28, 2013 artist talk at 5:30pm

In this work Ulehla explores copies and multiples while embracing subtle differences that occur during the production process. Working in several series, Ulehla creates jewelry that explores concepts rooted in natural science. Species classification, reproduction, and hybridization, while not over-obvious, inform her pieces. The jewelry is composed of autonomous visual units of varying sizes such as hand painted silk framed in darkened silver or plastic tubing lined with gold. These units are either used to make a piece of pure repetition or are merged to make a variety of hybrid compositions. The effect is a logical yet unusually beautiful body of jewelry.
Since earning her BA in drawing and painting from Stanford University, Ulehla has mastered the arts of marionette making, puppeteering and fine art jewelry. Her focus on studio jewelry in recent years has earned her an invitation to the prestigious Philadelphia Museum of Art Craft Show in, Philadelphia, PA and The Smithsonian Craft Show in Washington D.C.

June 12 — July 14, 2013 Farrah Al-Dujaili, Emily Bullock, Lydia Feast, Christine Graf, Nanna Grønborg, I Ting (Heather) Ho, Zita Hsu, Christiana Joeckel, Lisa Juen, Yi (Roger) Liu, Katharina Moch, Kathryn Partington, Jo Pond, Fliss Quick, Xiaohan (Vincent) Ren, Natalie Smith, Li-Chu Wu, Wen-Miao Yeh Natalie Smith "When" brooch

MAGIC CITY is an exhibition of current work from emerging and established artists who came through the School of Jewellery, Birmingham. Flourishing despite the recent global downturns, jewelers coming out of Birmingham have shown a resourcefulness and resilience in the making and presentation of their work. Velvet da Vinci is pleased to showcase a selection of this talented group.Contrary to the often-remarked grey of its post industrialism, Birmingham, a city of multiple cultures, has become a vibrant center for the arts. The artists of this city are forging a strong presence within the art jewelry world. They are making a name for themselves for producing distinctive and desirable work that is offbeat, loud, quiet, funny, thoughtful, unfamiliar and unabashed: The art jewelry coming out of this city is testament to the magic.
