It is the aim of the exhibition “Cabinets of nature and curiosities“ of the Galerie Handwerk in Munich to show the formal inspiration through nature in glass, ceramics, metal, paper, jewellery and textile. In the cabinets of curiosities and nature of the Renaissance and Baroque objects from art and nature were presented side by side and objects of nature were distinguished by a precious fitting by goldsmiths.
The exhibited works by international artists are characterized by the close and intense relation between art and nature. They emphasize the fascination by the exotic, strange, mysterious, the aesthetic attraction by insects, flowers, animals and stones and translate these into a form which also includes a reflection on contemporary issues concerning nature and mankind’s relation to it.
The Galerie Handwerk of the Handwerkskammer für München und Oberbayern is guest at the Museum of Palaeontology in Munich. It will be especially fascinating to see contemporary works of the arts and crafts opposite fossils and finds from early stages of the history of the earth.
