DARK side of the RING : Jose Antonio MORALEJO

Classé dans : COUP DE COEUR,Espagne (ES),Jose Antonio MORALEJO (ES),rings — bijoucontemporain @ 1:32

Jose Antonio MORALEJO

EXPO ‘Un Certain Regard’ – PREZIOSA 2013 – Marino Marini Contemporary Art Museum, Florence (Italy) – 20 Juin–21 Juill. 2013

PREZIOSA. Contemporary Jewellery Exhibition  2013’s edition

Un Certain Regard

Un Certain Regard - Artists: Karin Seufert, Philip Sajet, Suska Mackert, David Bielander,Sophie Hanagarth, Sigurd Bronger - Marino Marini Contemporary Art Museum (Florence, Italy) 20-Jun-2013 - 21-Jul-2013 website: www.preziosa.org2013’s edition of the international exhibition PREZIOSA Contemporary jewellery organized by LE ARTI ORAFE Jewellery School.
PREZIOSA 2013 starts from the otherness of this peculiar Art, and wants to focus on visual reaction of the “public” in face of contemporary research jewellery.
The thematic exhibition will be centred on the imaginary, on expectations and assumptions of the public in relation to the jewel.
The exhibition presents works by six international artists selected as examples of specific issues related to the imaginary: recognition/estrangement/surprise/rejection/trespassing, and will be divided into three sections:
– « To be or not be »: shapes visually recall ancient jewels like precious objects, but in reality….?
– Artwork by Karin Seufert and Philip Sajet
– The conceptual research on the imagination in jewellery: Suska Mackert
– « What I see is what I see! »
The irony of David Bielander; the aggressiveness of Sophie Hanagarth; the fun mechanics of Sigurd Bronger.

PREZIOSA 2013 includes two side events at the main exhibition, offering visitors additional opportunities for reflection on contemporary jewellery :
- Wearable!
Photo exhibition of worn contemporary jewellery.
The exhibition of jewellery is complemented by a photographic project of the show itself.
The need to show how these jewels can be worn in everyday life, how they interact with the people and with the surrounding space, has led to a specific concept, project, which has been developed using the skill and sensitivity of the particular photographer Eva Sauer.
Twelve jewels, which will be shown in the exhibition, will be chosen, worn and set in particular places of the city of Florence.
The twelve pictures will be displayed in the Museo Marino Marino inside PREZIOSA exhibition, and will also be present in the places where the photos were taken, so as to establish a mutual connection between the exhibition space and the town.
- PREZIOSA Young 2013

EXPO ‘Jewelry: The Genetics of the Ancient’ – Palazzo Cenci, Roma (IT) – 18-23 Juin 2013

Classé dans : Exposition/Exhibition,Italie (IT),Kellie RIGGS (USA),MUSEE,www Klimt02 — bijoucontemporain @ 0:19

Jewelry: The Genetics of the Ancient / Gioielli: La Genetica Dell’antico

Artists: Kellie Riggs, Ulderico Giuseppe Pettorossi

Jewelry. The Genetics of the Ancient / Gioielli. La Genetica Dell'antico Artists: Kellie Riggs, Ulderico Giuseppe Pettorossi Place: Palazzo Cenci (Roma, Italy) 18-Jun-2013 - 23-Jun-2013

« I consider jewelry to be archaeological » -says Pettorossi- « a crucial bridge between what we once were and what we will eventually be« .
Riggs’ approach mutually respects historical artistic precedents but a bit more theoretically. On the surface her work is fragmented pieces of a visual vocabulary taken from classic architectural fundamentals of adornment. The majority of her neckpieces in this exhibition are from the series ARCHITETTONICO and translate the decorative and at times structural articulation of interior architectural spaces to the scale of the body; time has honored the idea that the human body deserves parallel exaltation. The wall-sized projections of her pieces on the body help rationalize their existence. Detailed shots seen large and up-close synthesize the site and surface (body as architecture) with object and form, articulating the very areas each piece adorns, as would architectural adornment from interior spaces of Italian churches or palazzi from the Quattrocento

Together, the works presented by both Pettorossi and Riggs question what it means to contemporize our own visual history by asking how the past has the potential to also be the present.

Kellie Riggs Necklace: Concave/Convex Porcelain, handmade rope - at EXHIBITION Jewelry. The Genetics of the Ancient / Gioielli. La Genetica Dell'anticoKellie Riggs  Necklace: Concave/Convex  Porcelain, handmade rope

« My work is informed by the past, fueled by an interest in contemporizing our visual history. My curiosity in what came before me closely relates to the inherent fundamentals of adornment as a concept; I explore the human body’s direct relationship to architecture, as time has honored the idea that the human body deserves parallel exaltation. Using the decorative and structural articulation of environments like Italian churches, I aim to exploit the body as a site and surface able to be similarly defined.
Adapted fundaments of Renaissance and Baroque architecture encompass my work using identifiable derivations of visual vocabularies, principles, and dynamic functions. Using proportion and balance, contraction and release, my work explores ambiguity of scale. The physicality of each piece is also essential to the visual presence when seen on the body, and the structural presence when felt worn.
This series intends to reframe how the body is perceived by unifying object and body as one. This goal of unification is met with limitations of perception- how does one communicate a theoretical environment where piece meets the intended site, if one does not get to handle the piece personally? The tangible object alone is not the complete work; without the body, only fallen fragments would be found. How are they to be put back?
(I consider each work in this series to be object(s) on a body in unprinted photographs. If given the opportunity, these works would ideally be projected quite large.) » Kellie Riggs

EXPO ‘Estela Saez : Meet Me There’ – Galerie Rob Koudijs, Amsterdam (NL) – 8-22 Juin 2013

« Estela Saez: Meet Me There »  - Galerie Rob Koudijs  (Amsterdam, Netherlands)

Meet me there - Estela Saez - Galerie Rob Koudijs (NL) - http://www.galerierobkoudijs.nl/

Sculpture and jewellery are in line with each other: both media manifest themselves as three-dimensional objects made from materials like metal, wood or plastics. The jewellery piece is usually distinguished by its dimensions and the fact that it might be worn. However, this is not the case with the work of the Spanish artist Estela Saez. Notwithstanding the smaller scale, her pieces have an exceptional monumentality and expressiveness. With some pieces, wearing them should be understood in the sense of taking them with you: to carry them in your hand. Saez’s visual language is akin to the austere Spanish art of the past century: the ‘matter paintings’ of Tàpies, Saura’s intense portraits, and the archaic power in the sculpture of Chillida.
Grasping the intentions and ideas behind Saez’s work is not so easy. Considering the title of the exhibition – Meet me there – her work refers to some location or, possibly, a state of mind. But what meets the eye are complex, rather abstract structures. One group is made up of spatial metal constructions, the rest of the pieces consist of piled sheets of semi-translucent quartz. Frugal details conjure up images of machines or armament; the clusters of quartz are reminiscent of rocky slopes or rough, far away landscapes. Are those the places where we are expected to meet? And what about the context: is Saez hinting at a civilization long gone astray, or, more specific, the remains of the violent twentieth century, or are these pieces heralding some remote future? Every association remains elusive. The artist will not help us out: she just puts all her efforts in developing her work, never tired of searching, always waiting for the unpredictable moment when the piece will be completed. In the end, it is in the object itself that we are to meet. After that, it’s all up to us.
