L’exposition a pour titre «A change of seasons». Avec cette série de bijoux, Vered Babaï tente de capturer une impression, un sentiment, qu’évoque la nature en elle, notamment la beauté dénudée des arbres l’hiver, faite de stabilité et de la fragilité à la fois.

Fallen fibers from palm trees, leaves, and twigs are subjected to the same processes as metals in the hands of the artist, resulting in forms that are evocative and delicate yet surprisingly robust and tensile. The inherent qualities of the raw material, unmarred despite the artist’s technical manipulations, are revealed in natural forms that hark to simpler times and display a yearning for connections with nature, lost or interrupted over time.

« Yong Joo Kim: Spotlight » -  Mobilia Gallery  15-Aug-2013 – 28-Sep-2013

From August 15th through September 28th, Mobilia Gallery is pleased to spotlight the innovative sculptural jewelry of Yong Joo Kim, created from ordinary materials such as velcro and thread.Yong Joo Kim
« My work introduces unconventional use of familiar artifacts into a world full of conventions. By assembling, grouping, clustering, and piling, the small and simple elements become complex, and give rise to the unexpected. As the wearer approaches my work, the experience of perspective shifts and sudden realizations spark wonder, discovery, tension, joy and play. My investigation of creation, innovation, and transformation questions the definition of value, and provides a never-ending field for invention. » – Yong Joo Kim

Julia Turner  Three Days Walking (Mourning Brooch)

« Borders separate but also unite » (Octavio Paz)
Historically the relationship between Mexico and the United States has been complicated, deep, and conflicted. Due to geography, this relationship is unavoidable and comprised of many underlying currents: economic, political, social, cultural, ecologic and ideological.
La Frontera (The Borderlands) is the physical space where the relationship between Mexico and the U.S is most evident. In recent years, drug trafficking and violence have made it the focus of almost daily news. However, the extremely porous nature of the border allows not only the illegal passage of arms and drugs, but also ideas, money, projects, families, and culture.
The border is an environment of opportunity both legal and not. Nearly 2000 miles long, the U.S. – Mexico border is the most frequently crossed international border in the world. Companies use differences in labor and environmental regulations to their advantage and create discontent on both sides of the border. Since the 1980s economic and political refugees from Central America have swelled populations at the border and migrations across it. The construction of the 700- mile U.S. – Mexico Border Fence of the past several years is the most tangible symbol of failed politics.
The exhibition LA FRONTERA seeks to explore this physical space and what it represents. This is why we want artists either born in either of these countries or who live in either of these countries to express how they understand the border.

RAISSA BUMP selected works at Sienna Gallery (Lenox, MA, USA) – 21-25 Aout 2013

Sienna Gallery – August 22  RAISSA BUMP selected works

Sienna Gallery - August_22 RAISSA_BUMP selected_works
Raissa Bump is an artist born in the North East who is currently working in the San Francisco Bay area. She works in collaboration, joining materials and techniques of the clothing and jewelry she is making. Her inspiration often stems from the incredible history of all that is worn on the body–she is thrilled to contribute her own designs to the rich history of adornment! Raissa received her BFA with honors from Rhode Island School of Design and also studied in Florence, Italy at Alchimia School of Contemporary Jewelry with Giampaolo Babetto. Enriched by a curiosity in the parallel, yet sometimes blurry line between jewelry and apparel, Raissa’s work is fueled by a direct response to contrasting materials that when together create complementary relationships.

« My work is an investigation of clothing patterns, weave structures, architecture and bits of nature. I allude to these explorations without suggesting a literal reference. Front could be back, top could be bottom, what is visible, what is concealed; many layers are parts to a whole. My process allows for me to add and take way, to see, feel, respond, question and remember. I get clues from the inherent nature of different materials. Using them within the same piece, employing repetition and shifting of scales to highlight these intrinsic qualities. Surfaces reflect light or absorb it.shadows that distort or accentuate. Various patterns, colors, textures and surface treatments interact; their juxtaposition is key and often surprising. It is a way of organizing thoughts and guiding ones eye throughout a piece. What is seen depends on the light, the color the clothing that is being worn, or the mood ones in; there are multiple solutions to the same problem. It is about acknowledging a moment in time. Working with materials in hand, labor, an unfolding of ideas. The act of dressing and adorning. These expressions of nonverbal communication become a record, a reflection. They connect us individually and as a culture with our past and with our future.«
