Amberif Design Award 2014 – exhibition of the award-winning works in the International Amber Jewellery Design Competition “Materia Prima” C

AMBERIF design award

The watchword of this year’s Amberif Design Award is not just the alchemic representation of the primal substance able to take on the perfect form but also a direct reference to the contemporary idea of sustainability in design which respects local tradition, refers to the historical heritage of functional arts and elevates natural materials. Prized already in ancient Rome, Baltic amber is predisposed, as a substance close to the ideal, to be transformed into an original design. The unique nature of each individual nugget has always provoked artists to look for the right form, interpret associations, make use of its internal structure, colours, shades, transparencies and natural peculiarities preserved for the lucky finder over the past 40 million years. In an era of disposable products, it is sometimes worthwhile to look back to pre-history and fix your sight on the elusive aspects of both the physical and the metaphysical. The material, the medium itself usually gives designers a hint towards their first decisions; let us try to listen to this hint and follow through with it. We expect jewellery (without any functional limitations at all) in which the amber will be a remarkably strong justification for highlighting its most natural properties.

EXPO ‘Aeon Profit / Piano Forte’ – Velvet Da Vinci gallery, San Francisco (US) – 5 Fevr.-9 Mars 2014

Velvet Da Vinci is proud to present the US debut of Aeon Profit / Piano Forte, an installation of wearable objects made from reincarnated piano parts by the Swedish jewelry design collective A5.

The show, which has previously exhibited in both Stockholm and Munich, will run from February 5th through March 9th, 2014.  An Opening Reception will take place on Friday February 7th, from 6 to 8 pm.

Musical instruments and jewelry share several fundamental similarities: a rich tradition of craftsmanship, function, ornamentation, and inherent value. Both are meant to last generations and to be passed from individual to individual. Thus when an instrument or a piece of jewelry is no longer wanted or needed it falls into a particular space of limbo, the owner wishes to part with the item yet at the same time hopes that it will continue its existence. It is in this way that the group A5, Adam Grinovich, Romina Fuentes, and Annika Pettersson, came into contact with a piano.

EXPO ‘Marta Boan: The appearance of jewels’ – Four Gallery, Göteborg (Sweden) – 7-22 Fevr. 2014

Classé dans : Exposition/Exhibition,Gal. Four (SE),Marta BOAN (ES),Suede (SE) — bijoucontemporain @ 1:20

« Marta Boan: The appearance of jewels » – 7–22 février

Basic geomatric shapes, lines and points create a language speaking of chaos and order. Volumes growing into a minimalistic expression that communicates and accentuates a figure.
The jewellery of Marta Boan is an elegant explanation of a complex surrounding world. The thin and seemingly fragile objects make the observer want to come closer to discover the details and the strength of the material. Mathematics and art in a beautiful balance.

Welcome to meet Marta Boan and see the exhibition at Four Friday February 7, 17.00-21.00

On Thursday February 6, 16.00 Marta Boan will make a lecture at HDK – University of Arts and Crafts and Design, please mail karin@foursweden.com for more detailed information.

Inhorgenta Munich – 14-17 Febr. 2014

In 2014, Hall C2 will signify Contemporary Design (HALL PLAN)

Young talents meet with premium designers: at the 41st INHORGENTA MUNICH on February 14 – 17, 2014, Hall C2 will be the platform for the most notable jewelry designers and goldsmiths from all over the world. To date, over 50 new exhibitors from various countries have registered to take part.

Inhorgenta Munich - 14-17 Febr. 2014 - Espaijoia will attend you at booth hall C2 stand 515E.
Almost half of the exhibitors in C2 come from abroad and include numerous new exhibitors from Spain, Portugal and Poland. Designers from Great Britain, Greece, Portugal and Romania will be presenting at joint booths with a high-quality design.
“The Contemporary Design area is regarded as one of the unique features of the trade show and we will be strengthening it even further with our focus on premium design. Hall C2 is also an important springboard for young jewelry designers because here they can introduce their work to an international audience from the trade. This connection between creative design and young talents from throughout the world is at the heart of this hall”, says Renate Wittgenstein, Product Manager of INHORGENTA MUNICH.
In the Premium Design area, labels like Marion Knorr, Juni, Carl Dau, Galerie Cipango, Angela Hübel and Andrea Frahm will present their collections combining clear forms and esthetics with top-class materials. “There are jewelry designers who have developed from contemporary towards premium design in recent years”, explains Renate Wittgenstein. “We wish to give these exhibitors their own area so they can reach their customers more specifically.”

A significant part too is played by the special shows. For the 17th time, the Silver Triennial will present handcrafted utensils and objects by internationally important silversmiths and metal designers at INHORGENTA MUNICH 2014. In addition, the pieces of jewelryby the winners of the INHORGENTA MUNICH Award, Legnica and Preziosa Young Mari Ishikawa from Japan and Vanessa Tickle from the USA – will be exhibited at the Innovation Forum. As well as that, young talents
such as Sonja Heymann, Atelier Godolé, Tings Jewellery and Nicole Schuster will present their new creations at special areas.

The complete reconfiguration of Hall C2 for jubilee year 2013 went down very well among the participants and visitors. “Hall C2 is the heartbeat of design: usefully developed concepts put into diverse effect; unusual design unified worldwide; technical innovations coupled with tradition; individual design presented up close; creative minds with unmistakable jewelry – it’s all about showing something special, discovering something special!” says Monika Seitter, qualified designer and exhibitor in C2.

EXPO ‘Monochromes’ – Hole Of The Fox, Borgerhout Anvers (BE) – 24 Janv.- 2014

Classé dans : Belgique (BE),Exposition/Exhibition,GALERIES,Shana TEUGELS (BE) — bijoucontemporain @ 0:33

The Hot Fox presents « Monochromes«      The not so monotonous jewelry series     A solo exhibition by Shana Teugels  – This exhibition is part of BORGER – nocturnes, vernissages, finissages.

"Monochromes" The not so monotonous jewelry series A solo exhibition by Shana Teugels
It’s obvious that the work of Shana Teugels revolves around questioning the conventions surrounding jewelry, but more so, she emphasizes the purpose of the classical jewel to an extreme, by adding more shine, more color and increasing volume as she goes.
Her shapes originate from experimenting with different types of materials, which she chooses for their cheap feel. These materials force her to glorify them as she links these experiments to an ongoing research about how the jewel can exalt itself and dance on the fine line between objet d’art and kitsch, the objet d’art being some form of rejected art or better, unclassifiable.
She digests her surroundings, her past and present, pink toys and nature, as well as her personal tastes, in short, the world she, herself, lives in, and out come these molded, shape shifting forms, vibrant of color and life. It’s by forcing her own ideal of beauty onto her audience that she generates a constant push and pull while observing her work. This creates a temporary uncomfortable, but not unpleasant, zone between the spectator/wearer and the work/jewel, itself.
An important aspect remains adding functionality to her creations, most of her objects are wearable, as this is an essential reference to jewelry design in general. Shana Teugels graduated in 2010 at Sint Lucas Antwerp, with a masters degree in jewelry design and did an internship at Galerie Marzee in Nijmegen, Holland. Her work was selected for Der Schmuck Salon at Meesterlijk (Amsterdam) and at Object (Rotterdam), for De Nieuwe Oogst, Galerie Design Vlaanderen (Brussels) as well as FAD at Joya Contemporary Jewelry Week (Barcelona) and as far as Tokyo, Japan with the Belgian Japanese Art Jewelry exhibition at Concept Jewelry Works. Her work was also featured in Current Obsession Magazine, #Youth Edition, a Belgian/Dutch magazine on contemporary jewelry.
"Monochromes" at Anvers 2014
Monochromes shows a series of necklaces, broches and objects, each in a single color. This is quite a daring step, as well as a less obvious one in Shana’s oeuvre, as monochromatism raises a certain doubtful attitude. Similarly to fashion and interior design, where monochromatism is swiftly associated with bad taste or affectation. It’s exactly this idea of taste and (un)accepted beauty, which she is trying to question, while combining less conventional materials, such as wool and plastic, with those that have a fixed value, like polypropyleen.

Eva GIRBES in black & white

Eva Girbes - Spain, Barcelona, Escola Massana -

« The wearer completes the meaning of my pieces by asking themselves what they are or what they could be. As a jeweller I find human intelligence impressive. I admire the subtlety of relations and the connection between shape and utility. That is what I explore in my work, besides ornamenting the body I would like to give the wearer an identity. The fact that these pieces have a portable size  may make the observer think about tools , but they are not, they are something else …   » (Marzee graduation show 2012)

Primitivo despertar.
