»Inspired by architectural forms and topographical shapes in nature, I aspire to create works which combine the renderings of an architect with the delicate skills of a master jeweler. Employing multiple gages of gold and silver wire in varied tones, my works are distinguished by their « see-through-spaces. » Fluidly interlinked organic forms suggest dynamic movement, especially accentuated by the white and black of silver and Shakudo. Essential to my conception is creating a structure, with a sense of volume and lightness that invokes a feeling of infinite space. »
Kwon combines the delicate skill of a master jeweler and the strong command of a sculptor, articulating architectural space with silver, gold, diamonds and semi-precious stones and hand-soldering each element.
Kwon received a BFA in Accessories Design and a AAS in Jewelry Design from the Fashion Institute of Technology where she graduated with honors. Her work can be found in numerous private collections.

CHOC of the BLUES ! Raïssa Bump

Classé dans : COUP DE COEUR,Raissa BUMP (US),USA — bijoucontemporain @ 0:38

Raïssa Bump

« My work is an investigation of clothing patterns, weave structures, architecture and bits of nature. I allude to these explorations without suggesting a literal reference. Front could be back, top could be bottom, what is visible, what is concealed; many layers are parts to a whole. My process allows for me to add and take way, to see, feel, respond, question and remember.
I get clues from the inherent nature of different materials. Using them within the same piece, employing repetition and shifting of scales to highlight these intrinsic qualities. Surfaces reflect light or absorb it…shadows that distort or accentuate. Various patterns, colors, textures and surface treatments interact; their juxtaposition is key and often surprising. It is a way of organizing thoughts and guiding ones eye throughout a piece. Collage.
What is seen depends on the light, the color the clothing that is being worn, or the mood ones in; there are multiple solutions to the same problem. It is about acknowledging a moment in time. Working with materials in hand, labor, an unfolding of ideas. The act of dressing and adorning. These expressions of nonverbal communication become a record, a reflection. They connect us individually and as a culture with our past and with our future. »

EXPO ‘Iris Bodemer & Ute Eitzenhöfer’ – CODA Museum (NL) – 1er Juin-14 Sept. 2014

at CODA Museum  : Ute Eitzenhofer and Iris Bodemer

opening on sunday 1th of june 14:30

In this exposition CODA Museum brings together the jewellery of Iris Bodemer (1970) and Ute Eitzenhöfer (1969). Both Bodemer en Eitzenhöfer approach the materials they use without discriminating between what is valuable and what is worthless. Expression, experiment and exploration play an important role in the work and development of both artists.

CODA - apeldoorn, the netherlandsopening on sunday 1th of june 14:30
Iris Bodemer’s jewellery can be both sensuous and rough. She works with a broad gamut of materials, ranging from gold and gemstones to rubber and string, with no hierarchical relation between the materials she uses to achieve her final form.
It is not just Iris Bodemer’s jewels that are autonomous art objects. Her method is also one of autonomy, of independence or, as jewellery expert Marjan Unger puts it in an article: “Iris Bodemer does not refer to predecessors or contemporaries. She completely follows her own course. But she does not make autonomous works just so they can be exhibited. Her jewels are essentially made for the human body and, as such, come to life when worn.”

At first glance, Ute Eitzenhöfer’s jewellery appears to have been made to wear and to adorn. Nevertheless her jewels certainly do tell a story. They contemplate and criticise modern society and encourage observers to think about the relationship between people and materialistic things, the meaning of everyday objects and how we treat them. Materials symbolise superficial beauty, are mass-produced and discarded just as easily. The combination with other materials in Eitzenhöfer’s jewellery gives them a different ‘value’.
