‘CONTAINERS in context’ – Anneleen Swillen

Anneleen Swillen is inspired by the way daily goods are consumed and (re)presented. The jewellery pieces from ‘CONTAINERS in context’ are inspired by the interesting but unnoticed design from disposable packaging. Challenged by this ambivalence, between waste and its aesthetic potential, her designs and materials play with the notion of precious and worthless. The use of contrasts and metaphors is a recurrent feature in realizing her concepts. The origin from the ‘in context’ collection will be less clear; the playful designs dispose of a more autonomous shape.
During the making process Anneleen explores the possibilities of a material or product. Thereby she drops their original function and exchanges it for her own personal application. By doing so she gives a new point of view about our relationship with material goods. Through production and reproduction she investigates the industrially manufactured and its potential applications in craft. The repetitive making process, which refers to the mechanized production of goods, offers the opportunity to produce series of work as well as to make unique pieces.
