(Alejandra Solar -Recuerdos 7 Brooch 2014)Throughout her creative process, Luxembourg-based jeweller Alejandra Solar continually gathers images from the mundane. She then selects some of the characters, landscapes and objects she has discovered to become part of a different story in an imaginary world.
By placing these elements in a new context, altering and playing with them, she finds surprising and unexpected connections between them and their new environment. Then the stories start over, and the ordinary and familiar become uncanny and strange.
Themes of mysticism and fantasy emerge and become great sources of inspiration. Solar was born in Mexico City and completed her BA in graphic design there, and later graduated from the Escola Massana in Barcelona with a degree in artistic jewellery. She is currently completing her MFA at the University of Trier in Idar-Oberstein, Germany, in the jewellery department.
