«  “Unknown Relatives”  was based on a series of old portrait photographs found at a family farm in Michigan. Dinan created the 20-piece assemblage using kiln-fired vitreous enamel on copper from digital waterslide transfers« 

Anne Dinan is a nationally recognized jewelry and visual artist who attended the School of Museum School of Fine Arts in Boston.

A resident of Exeter, N.H., Dinan has presented her unique and diverse pieces at a number of shows including Alchemy 3, the 2015 Enamelist Society touring exhibition at five New England galleries ; seasonal shows at the Button Factory in Portsmouth, N. H. and Pettengill Farm in Salisbury, Mass; and at

“Myths – Test Drive” in Germany at the 2016 Munich Jewellery Week show (SCHMUCK) .

« Dinan earned second place in the wall piece category of the 15th Biennial International Juried Enamel Exhibition for “Unknown Relatives,” which was based on a series of old portrait photographs found at a family farm in Michigan. Dinan created the 20-piece assemblage using kiln-fired vitreous enamel on copper from digital waterslide transfers. The pieces were mounted on wood from an old wheelbarrow.
“Unknown Relatives” also was featured in “The Book of Alternative Photographic Processes (third edition) by Dublin artist and photographer Christopher James. Dinan’s work will also be featured at galleries in Munich, Germany and Paris. Melting Point 2016 VALENCIA (Spain) – EXPO ‘SUR o no SUR’ & ‘ASTONISH’ – Centre del Carme, Valencia (SP) – 21-24 Avril 2016

Sur o no Sur es un proyecto iniciado por Eva Burton en la ciudad de Barcelona.
Nace de la necesidad de mostrar a nivel internacional la contribución de los argentinos a la disciplina de la Joyería Contemporánea.
Gracias al apoyo de la galerista argentina Mercedes Rodrigo, la exposición fue presentada por primera vez en Octubre 2014 en Galería Siesta durante Joya Barcelona.
Esta primera experiencia tuvo una repercusión muy positiva en el público y logró captar la atención en diferentes sitios de Europa. Así, Sur o no Sur ha sido exhibido por segunda vez en Marzo de 2015 en Galería Silvestre, Tarragona (España). En Mayo de 2015 ha formado parte del Silver Festival en Legnica (Polonia) no sólo en el cartel de exposiciones sino también dentro del marco del Simposio “Boundaries” (“Fronteras”) llevado a cabo durante el festival.
Hoy, luego de dos años de haberse iniciado el proyecto, Sur o no Sur hace una nueva estación de itinerancia con en la Tercera Edición del encuentro internacional de Joyería Contemporánea de Valencia: el Melting Point.

“Astonish” es un grupo de jóvenes joyeros alumnos o graduados del Campus Idar Oberstein (Universidad de Ciencias Aplicadas de Trier) en el Departamento de Joyería y Talla de Piedra.
Estudiar en Idar- Oberstein no significa sólamente encontrar un lenguaje propio en forma y materia, sino también lidiar con el término “piedra preciosa”. Ya sea que lo amemos, odiemos o abandonemos, nuestra intención con este proyecto en enseñar al mundo diferentes aproximaciones en relación a las piedras.
Luego de tres exposiciones en Alemania durante las ferias Inhorgenta, Internationale Handwerksmesse (Schmuck) en Munich e Intergem en Freiburg, tenemos nuevamente la oportunidad de compartir nuestro trabajo durante la tercera edición del Simposio de Joyería Contemporánea de Valencia conocido como “Melting Point”.

Melting Point 2016 – Joieria Contemporània València es un encuentro internacional de joyería artística contemporánea organizado por el Departament de Joieria de la Escola d’Art i Superior de Disseny de València. Lo venimos realizando en la ciudad de Valencia desde 2012. Esta es la 3ª edición y se celebra en abril de 2016.

Este mes de abril la joyería contemporánea tiene una nueva cita en Valencia en la tercera edición de nuestra bienal internacional. Deseamos, desde la satisfacción que nos proporciona poder disfrutar otra vez de vuestra presencia, invitaros a visitar las exposiciones previstas, a participar en las actividades y conferencias programadas, a intercambiar ideas, compartir experiencias y profundizar en el debate sobre los retos que afrontan sus creadores.

La edición 2016 de Melting Point se plantea como objetivo ofrecer un panorama de la joyería actual rico y lleno de matices, capaz de reflejar la pluralidad de opciones y enfoques que caracterizan la creatividad de estas primeras décadas del siglo XXI. Con este espíritu se ha organizado en la Galería Tossal el homenaje a Marianne Gassier, coleccionista apasionada de joyas de vanguardia y mujer dinamizadora de la cultura joyera contemporánea a través de su blog de prestigio internacional (OH !! …) . Se ha preparado, igualmente, una exposición monográfica de la obra del estonio Tanel Veenre, cuyas piezas podréis contemplar en las salas nobles del Palacio del Marqués de Dos Aguas. El Centre del Carme, por su parte, acoge la sección dedicada a los jóvenes creadores: Jorge Manilla, Edu Tarín (premio Talente 2016 y exalumno de la Escola d’Art i Superior de Disseny de València), los participantes en Visible Wall y Página en blanco, o la muestra dedicada a jóvenes joyeros argentinos.
Y aún hay mucho más: contamos con Akis Goumas, Gisbert Stach, Judy McCaig, José Marín, Peter Bauhuis y los estudiantes de Alchimia, Eliana Negroni con Gioielli in Fermento, Juan Riusech y Alliages, Tomas Palos, Imma Gibert, Manel G. Ramiro, Jordi Aparicio, Joyas Sensacionales, Anna Maria Staiano …………

En este momento, estamos trabajando para ofrecer, igualmente, un Máster, que esperamos vea la luz en breve.

La Collezione permanente del gioiello contemporaneo della Fondazione Raffaele Cominelli comprende 78 gioielli provenienti da 25 paesi, sia europei che extra europei ed ha avuto origine nel 2011, grazie alla sensibilità ed attenzione dimostrate dalla Fondazione verso nuove forme espressive in collaborazione con l’Associazione Gioiello Contemporaneo, a partire dalla prima edizione del Premio Cominelli a San Felice del Benaco (BS).
Il percorso espositivo è articolato in quattro macro aree tematiche, a loro volta ripartite in specifiche sfere d’interesse.
La visita alla mostra è un’occasione per poter ammirare, osservare e studiare questa particolare forma d’arte, apprezzare l’ampiezza del raggio di ricerca delle forme stilistiche e delle soluzioni tecniche adottate, a dimostrazione della vivacità e dell’eclettismo di un’arte che arricchisce di sempre nuovi significati culturali il mondo del gioiello contemporaneo.

Gioiello concettuale
L’area comprende opere la cui ricerca verte principalmente su aspetti filosofici-concettuali indagando il mondo del gioiello e la sua relazione con il nostro vivere. Per una loro più facile lettura, sono state suddivise ulteriormente per ambiti di studio, in cui si cerca di esaminare il concetto di gioiello da uno specifico punto di vista.
Gioiello di ricerca storica
Nella seconda sezione sono stati raggruppati qui tutti quei gioielli basati principalmente sul concetto di memoria storica attraverso l’analisi e reinterpretazione delle forme in chiave attuale di tutti gli aspetti formali caratterizzanti il gioiello nel corso della sua storia (gioiello di ricerca storica formale) e attraverso lo studio e riutilizzo delle tecniche di costruzione antiche (gioiello di ricerca storica tecnica).
Gioiello di design
La terza macro area aggrega tutti quei gioielli che indagano sul concetto di riproducibilità e socializzazione del gioiello, attraverso lo studio del rapporto che intercorre tra comunicazione, materiali e nuove tecniche di costruzione.
Gioiello di ricerca estetica
L’ultima sezione comprende tutti quei gioielli il cui ambito di ricerca verte principalmente sull’estetica; analizza, investiga e studia il rapporto tra forma e bellezza, tra proporzioni e armonie.
Poiché non esiste sempre una netta separazione tra i diversi contesti di sperimentazione, nonostante la suddivisione, molti dei gioielli presenti in collezione utilizzano una commistione di linguaggi.

AJF ANNOUNCES FINALISTS FOR 2016 ARTIST AWARD

Finalists were chosen from the largest group of Artist Award applicants to date–151 artists representing 35 countries–and judged on originality, depth of concept, continuity of design, and quality of craftsmanship. This year’s jurors were Philip Clarke of New Zealand, inaugural director of Objectspace; 2014 Artist Award winner Seulgi Kwon, from South Korea; and AJF board member and collector Susan Kempin, who is from the United States.
  The unrestricted cash prize of $7500, generously funded by Susan Beech and Karen and Michael Rotenberg, will be awarded to one of the five finalists. AJF would like to thank Sofia Björkman and PLATINA for providing a showcase for the winner and finalist during Schmuck and donating the gallery’s profits to AJF. 

Lynn Batchelder wins 2016 AJF artist award

Batchelder was chosen from a record number of applicants—151 entries from 35 countries. She will receive a US$7500 cash award, and her work, along with that of the four finalists, will be exhibited by Platina Gallery at Schmuck international art jewelry fair in Munich, February 24 through March 1. Batchelder will also receive the benefits of being a supporter of AJF and serve as a juror for the 2017 Artist Award competition.

Batchelder’s studio practice relies on a drawing process where forms and ideas develop intuitively through the initial exploration of a line on paper. Industrial steel becomes transparent and delicate as cuts made with the jeweler’s saw reflect the quality of a line drawn by hand. Batchelder strives to capture small moments of contrast where control and imperfection collide.
Impressed by Batchelder’s work, Philip Clarke described it as “[a]ppearing almost mechanically made at a distant glance … the character of the human hand and frailty is evident. I found that the maker was able to explore a range of ideas within the quite formal framework that they had created.” Seulgi Kwon reflected on the pieces having “exceptional structural and sculptural beauty. They are designed to deliver strong feeling and a simple message through the natural color of metal itself.” Susan Kempin added, “I love the clean lines, the simplicity and yet the complexity of the pieces … to me there is only perfection here.”
Batchelder earned a master’s of fine arts in metal from State University of New York at New Paltz, New York, USA, in 2013.

Mill Valley, California, USA–Art Jewelry Forum (AJF) is pleased to announce the five finalists for its 2016 Artist Award. The finalists will exhibit their work with Sofia Björkman, from Platina, during the international art jewelry fair Schmuck, in Munich, Germany, from February 24 through March 1, 2016.

  »My work starts with an intuitive experimental play with found materials, which usually come from my immediate surroundings. In the process of experimenting, the materials are being thoroughly transformed; the original source cannot be identified anymore … My jewelry pieces may appear like artifacts of a past civilization, fossils from another planet, or the ornaments of fabled beings. »

« Life in Southern California, with its unreal sunsets, light-bleached buildings, and vestiges of 70s style, brought my memory to a saturation point, forming crystals of experience … These merged into objects with varying physical relationships to the body–at the scale of architecture, at the scale of jewelry, and in between. Utilizing the vocabulary of jewelry and architecture, space and place are explored–from the past to the present, from the personal to the cliché, from the obvious to the mysterious. »

Esme Parsons – 2014 -urbanisation necklace

Esme Parsons graduated from University for the Creative Arts (UCA) Rochester in 2014 having completed her Ba Hons degree in Silversmithing, Goldsmithing and Jewellery, since then Esme has moved to Edinburgh to take up a post as Artist-in-Residence at Edinburgh College of Art.
Esme takes inspiration from urban spaces to create industrial miniatures of the city to be worn on the body.
Esme specialised in enamelling and is a member of the Guild of Enamelers and the British Society of Enamelers, but she also specialised in acid etch, of which all her designs are hand drawn.

« this is a range of jewellery created for my Final Major Project at UCA Rochester, the range is based on the urban landscape examining areas that usually go unnoticed or are deemed unsightly, such as barbed fencing, satellite dishes, scaffolding… with colours inspired by the vibrant colours of graffiti, posters, and road markings. i find the diversity of urban areas an endless source of inspiration, and amazing places to explore. all my work is hand made as i believe in the preservation of craft through hand made objects. »
