Astonish HOLY ROCK - MJW 2018

Child of the elements.
You connect us to the past and our memories. You give us silence and peace. Hypnotized, we gaze at you when exploring your inner worlds. Born from time and the forces of nature you are everlasting and the matter of our making.
Every Rock is holy, indeed. From stones as silent observers, we make valuable experiences, we communicate through our making. Find the seven makers of ASTONISH for the third consecutive year at SCHMUCK, to pay hommage/tribute to ‘THE HOLY ROCK’ in you and me.
So let us celebrate together Gems and Jewels.

ARKIVET (the Archive) is a group of Norwegian artists consisting of Putte H. Dal, Hilde Dramstad, Elsie-Ann Hochlin, Camilla Luihn and Heidi Sand.
As jewelry artists they each have their artistic distinction. What they have in common is that they like to apply a theme based and conceptual approach to their craft. Since their debut as a group in 2014 they have had numerous exhibitions both in Norway and abroad.
ARKIVET sets out to investigate, through their individual works, different angles on how jewelry may work as a medium to promote dialogue in society today. Projects are developed through discussion and research with a common wish to bring jewelry as an artistic expression into contemporary society. As an example ideological, socialist, capitalist or ecological values may be analysed and processed through jewelry to artistic expression that fosters reflection.
The jewelry materials, artistic idiom and narrative content discusses concepts in the context of sitespecific exhibition design. For each project ARKIVET reaches out to interdisciplinary collaborators such as musicians, writers and philosophers, and ARKIVET also publishes annual publications.
In the WORTHLESS project the group wishes to explore how worth or value is perceived in today’s society. What makes something valuable? What is worthless? ARKIVET promotes a visual and mental association space for a discourse about the social and economic mechanisms that govern what is considered valuable. ARKIVET emphasizes the communicative aspects of jewelry and chooses to reveal something about human dignity, political aspects, self-esteem and the environment.

ATHENS JEWELRY WEEK (AJW) 2017 – general schedule – Athens (GR) – 18-21 May 2017

ATHENS JEWELRY WEEK 2017

AJW 2017 on Facebook

AJW 2017

Contemporary jewelry meets the Athenian audience in a 4-day art event with international participations.

For a second year in a row, Athens Jewelry Week opens its doors to welcome its guests. The objective of this new and dynamic institution is to present to the Greek audience the trends and the rich diversity of contemporary art jewelry, as they have been evolving in Greece and abroad.

In the framework of the international jewelry scene, the organization constitutes the Greek presence on the world map of equivalent art events with an ever increasing interest. AJW 2017 covers four days of exhibitions, lectures and workshops, highlighting contemporary jewelry creators, their art and their authentic work.

The central exhibition titled “Art + Jewelry: Intersecting Spaces is hosted this year by the Benaki Museum (Pireos Annexe) and it aims to present the exceptional work of 48 selected artists. The influential German jewelry maker Peter Bauhuis, invited as a guest artist, will honor the event with his presence, by exhibiting his work in the main exhibition hall and by opening the lectures program.

AJW 2017 also includes 5 group exhibitions that will take places in various venues around Athens, lectures and seminars. The closing of the event will be marked by the awards ceremony. Awards will be given by international institutions/entities that are active in the contemporary jewelry field.

Athens Jewelry Week – organized by Anticlastics, a group of contemporary jewelry creators – aims, among other things, at introducing the art of contemporary jewelry to the broader public. It is addressed to artists and art aficionados of all ages and backgrounds, but mostly to all those who love contemporary art jewelry and want to learn more about it. Because -as the poet W.B. Yeats would say- « The world is full of magic things, patiently waiting for our senses to grow sharper ».

Hatara Project started in 2015 as a collaboration between Annea Lounatvuori and Christine Jalio. The name Hatara, from the Finnish hattara – cotton candy – describes something dreamy, sweet and concrete but eventually fragile. Hatara is a meeting point between jewellery artists that have different backgrounds and come from different countries. It’s a connection, an exchange of culture, an experience and knowledge. Now we are 14 women from Finland, Sweden, Latvia, Germany, Japan, France, Australia and The Netherlands.

Meet the artists taking part in this year’s Munich Jewelry Week exhibition TIME PERCEPTION VOL.3.
Jelizaveta Suska
She was born in Latvia, where she completed her Bachelor degree education in Art Academy of Latvia as a metal designer. At the age of 24 she moved to Gothenburg in Sweden for studying and permanent living. In 2015 she graduated from Academy of Design and Crafts (HDK) at University of Gothenburg.
In year 2016 Jelizaveta received The Herbert Hofmann Prize, and Amber prize at Amberif Award.
‘Frozen Moment’ pieces are a lot about feelings of nostalgia, of a moment in time. In my work, I was looking for materialization of these abstract matters. I based it on associations and feelings. After a period of research, I came up with my own material that the pieces are made of. This material has two main compounds: polymer, that is light and transparent, just like ‘a moment’ and crushed marble, that creates an illusion of a solid stone which I associate with a feeling of nostalgia.
In the beginning of crafting each piece, material is hot and dynamic but in a while it turns still. Like a metaphor of a moment becoming a memory. When looking at my works, people often are saying that they look like ice or unknown minerals.
I question traditional approaches and instead of valuable jewels I celebrate the idea behind the material. That’s why for the rear of the brooches and other supporting details I use valuable metals like gold, gold plated silver and titanium.
In this project, I created more than 200 hundred pieces. I then selected 21 and crafted them into the jewelry.

EXCHANGE-BIJOU 2 – Dora HARALAMBAKI – « coup de coeur » forever !

Ceramic jewellery Dora Haralambaki

She is part of « Pilino soma » , Ceramic Jewelers Association -Greece. Pilinosoma is a group, a community made up of people involved in the ceramic jewelry. We think, we feel, we gesture always driven from our material which is none other than the earth, clay and porcelain. We seek the composition that contributes the harmony of the fragility of the clay component, made ornament as resting on the body. We are fighting for its place in the world of contemporary art jewelry.

I could say I love ALL what Dora Haralambaki makes …. since I know her …. I could show you here latest works, presented at last JOYA 2015, her « EGGS NOT FED » serie, but when I « rhink Dora Haralambaki », my first « vision » id a red & white vision ……. so let’s have a « first vision » here  :-) ……

« Refugees; away from their country, away from their home. Fear, persecution, uprooting.
And then an attempt of integration in a society hostile towards the foreign body. An attempt to maintain individuality and a distinct culture through habits, tastes, aromas, mannerisms which are getting attached to the different circumstances of the new land.
Attachments that are being carried as luggage to serve the need of memory; attachments that contribute to the continuation of flow, as well as to the assimilation within this new life. »
