ATHENS JEWELRY WEEK (AJW) 2017 – general schedule – Athens (GR) – 18-21 May 2017

ATHENS JEWELRY WEEK 2017

AJW 2017 on Facebook

AJW 2017

Contemporary jewelry meets the Athenian audience in a 4-day art event with international participations.

For a second year in a row, Athens Jewelry Week opens its doors to welcome its guests. The objective of this new and dynamic institution is to present to the Greek audience the trends and the rich diversity of contemporary art jewelry, as they have been evolving in Greece and abroad.

In the framework of the international jewelry scene, the organization constitutes the Greek presence on the world map of equivalent art events with an ever increasing interest. AJW 2017 covers four days of exhibitions, lectures and workshops, highlighting contemporary jewelry creators, their art and their authentic work.

The central exhibition titled “Art + Jewelry: Intersecting Spaces is hosted this year by the Benaki Museum (Pireos Annexe) and it aims to present the exceptional work of 48 selected artists. The influential German jewelry maker Peter Bauhuis, invited as a guest artist, will honor the event with his presence, by exhibiting his work in the main exhibition hall and by opening the lectures program.

AJW 2017 also includes 5 group exhibitions that will take places in various venues around Athens, lectures and seminars. The closing of the event will be marked by the awards ceremony. Awards will be given by international institutions/entities that are active in the contemporary jewelry field.

Athens Jewelry Week – organized by Anticlastics, a group of contemporary jewelry creators – aims, among other things, at introducing the art of contemporary jewelry to the broader public. It is addressed to artists and art aficionados of all ages and backgrounds, but mostly to all those who love contemporary art jewelry and want to learn more about it. Because -as the poet W.B. Yeats would say- « The world is full of magic things, patiently waiting for our senses to grow sharper ».

MOKUME school, participates in ATHENS JEWELLERY WEEK 2016, with a series of installations taking place inside its workshops. The purpose of the intallations is to shed light to the story behind each piece/adornment presented: the concept that gave birth to it and the process of its production.
The vital lab space, where the jewelry designer/maker captures the initial idea and proceeds to its implementation, becomes the backdrop of the exhibition. Photographs, video art, and work by selected school graduates frame the event  and broaden our perception of what is jewelry.
MOKUME STUDIO” was founded in Thessaloniki in: 1987 – 88 with one goal: The Vocational Training of the students in Silversmithing and Jewellery Design.
In 1992 – 93, MOKUME opens a new branch in Athens, after an innovative and successful course. The same year Mokume becomes a member of F.E.D.E., (Federation Europeene Des Ecoles), the European branch of Education of U.N.E.S.C.O. In 1994, the shareholders and the management of Mokume schools, submit an application, for the recognition of the programme of studies in the Greek Ministry of Education, which was approved. Since then, both schools are the unique “Private Vocational Training Institudes” in Silversmithing ( in the sectors of: Handmade Jewellery, Casting Jewellery and Jewellery Design ) recognised by the Ministry of Education.
Nowadays, Mokume school’s goal is to encourage their students to approach an artistic view in jewellery, apart from the manufacturing one.

Chalkis jewelry school

#Chalkis Jewellery School - Eric Robbert :“Chalkis-memory imprints”
Yiali / 5-6 Makrigianni str, Acropolis
OPENING: SATURDAY, 02/7, 20.00
Dates: 30/6-3/7,
opening hours: Thur-Sat. 10.00-13.00 & 17.00-20.00, Sun. 10.00-14.00
Chalkis Art school was founded in 1978 by mayor Ioannis Spanos and painters Chariklia and Dimitris Mytaras. It was one of the first art schools to be established in Greece and instigated the creation and foundation of other such schools in other municipalities of Greece.
Adding to the established annual student exhibition, the art school takes part in important exhibitions in many cities of Greece, as well as abroad.
The “Eric Roberts Jewellery School” of “Chalkis Art School”, came to be in 2000 after having received the following precious donation. The largest part of the workshop equipment is a result of the contribution of the wife of renowned jewellery designer Eric Robbert who loved Chalkida and the work of the art school; preserving and expanding cultural heritage.
The aim of “Eric Roberts Jewellery School” is to establish a creative contemporary jewellery hub in Chalkida, where imagination, artistic techniques and pursuits of people wanting to take a creative direction in their lives, are given prominence to.
“Eric Roberts Jewellery School” exhibits its work every two years in Chalkida as well as in galleries in Athens.
Facebook page
(The sense of absence and the presence of memory. An exhibition on jewellery, without jewellery.)
The “Eric Roberts Jewellery School” of the “Chalkis Art School” is participating in the 2016 Athens Jewellery Week with a non-classical approach. The focus is on the procedure, on the presentation of the journey from the idea, memories and emotions to the elements of display and the final composition.
We are interested in the world that lies behind the implementation of forms, the environment in which the idea develops, how this idea is shaped through the study of materials which are transformed, thus reaching the completion of the form; the final piece of jewellery.
This project derived from the city of today’s Chalkis and the fact that it is slowly losing the traces of its past. The past is still present in the memories of the people, but at the same time there is pain at the indifference to the loss of collective memory and values. Questions and thoughts are imprinted in matter, models, texts on the subject and photos. These elements give the opportunity to start up a conversation and exchange opinions, aiming at public awareness on the issues of history, memory, culture and identity.
