Monochrome Noir features work that boldly flaunts deep fields of black and that is punctuated with the perfect placement of a single color. These contemporary jewelry artists rely on the sleek, darker side of the monochromatic view. Often using found or recycled materials, much of this work presents a narrative inspired by geography, architecture, historical motifs, and decorative arts. The exhibition installation will also include portraits featuring the jewelry from Monochrome Noir by North Carolina photographer Becky Parker. This collection of jewelry and portraits alternates between punk and formal, irreverent and elegant. The show includes 22 artists from the United States, Estonia, and The Netherlands.

THE OPULENT PROJECT HOLIDAY OPEN STUDIO AND SALE !

Get ready for the holidays with T.O.P.!! Open studio and holiday sale all week (Dec. 12-16). It is going to be great. Featuring work by several Portland jewelers, as well as select students from the University of Oregon jewelry program. We have interesting jewelry that you can’t get anywhere else. So tell your friends and come on by!

 

This week we are handing out free brooches, which are serving as a coupon for 20% off T.O.P. items if you wear it into our studio. Ask us how you can get your hands on one of these little money savers!

On Wednesday evening from 5pm-7pm we will be offering a workshop “PIERCING AND POWDER COATING”. In this $15 class you can learn some basic jewelry making tricks while making someone a rad pendant or pair of earrings! Space is limited, so secure your place via email or text.

We will have an opening party on Monday until 7pm and then a closing party Friday night starting at 4pm going until late, but get there before 9pm on Friday or the building door will be locked! So come join us, have a holiday cocktail and buy someone awesome something awesome!

The Opulent Project, a Portland (OR) based artists collective, will open a new exhibition, « Come Apart », at Heidi Lowe Gallery on August 13, 2011 from 6-9 P.M.

 

The Opulent Project have created a new body of work for the upcoming exhibition entitled, “Come Apart.” The work in this show explores various forms of fragmentation visually, physically and/or conceptually. They have also created another variation of one of their classic pieces “Wallpaper.” “Wallpaper” explores adornment related to the body and interior space. The viewer is invited to participate by pulling jewelry from the wall to adorn themselves while at the same time revealing a pattern in the negative space that remains.

 

The Opulent Project uses new technologies to create jewelry that questions the conventional idea of value. Megan Drinkwater and Erin Gardner, Opulent Project founders will be at the gallery to show their work and answer questions. The show will be on view through October.

Sienna Gallery debuted the project last April at SOFA NY where we installed a photobooth. This format provided visitors with an experience outside of the typical museum-like presentation of jewelry and objects at SOFA. We encouraged people to have fun interacting with our jewelry. Viewers instantly became wearers, modeling our jewelry for a printed souvenir photo-strip. And in some sense the wearer became a « collector » and jewelry became « collected » through physical printed image and solidified through social media.
