Pump Up The Volume
CONTEMPORARY JEWELRY EXHIBITION

Music sets the rhythm and vinyl becomes the material; or the other way round. Music becomes the material and vinyl sets the rhythm for 17 improvisations on contemporary jewelry; tango-like brooches, rock-inspired necklaces, electro-bracelets. Tap your foot to the beat, prick up your ears and take a look on what’s happening when sound becomes the reason and starting point of inspiration. Seventeen creators and 17 music tracks “playing loud” in an exhibition that won’t leave anyone at peace: Pump Up The Volume.

During SCHMUCK 2016 : EXPO ‘A TRIBUTE TO MANFRED BISCHOFF’ – 3stations, Munich (DE) – 24-28 Fevr. 2016

A TRIBUTE TO MANFRED BISCHOFF   – 43 Students Pay Homage
43 of his former students from 22 countries who will each show a piece at the exhibition, dedicated to Manfred’s golden “Fingerpuppets” by creating their own little version of Manfred, the real golden boy.

#20
Opening 24.02.2016 18:00

« About the exhibition :  A former student, Isabel Dammermann, took it upon herself to make a special event for the teacher Manfred Bischoff who inspired so many. At the same time, she has managed to create a very interesting exhibition that is on display during the Munich Jewellery week 2016. »

Jewellery artists from 22 countries all over the world come together in a memorial exhibition for Manfred Bischoff who passed away a year ago. At some point or other, they have all been taught by Manfred at Alchimia, contemporary jewellery school in Florence, and have each submitted one piece to the exhibition that honours a great teacher.
German born Manfred Bischoff lived in Tuscany in a house that was in itself a piece of exquisite art. Its magical interior made a natural and perfect framework for his work that has been called by many names: sensual, poetic, lyrical, great, intimate, strong, beautiful, satirical and always surprising. He worked in 22K gold, as pure as he could manage and still maintain a rigidity in the metal that allowed him to execute his ideas in delicate and well crafted pieces, often accompanied with subtle pink coral and drawings.
His dedication to the language of jewellery and his visions were most likely one of the reasons that the Alchimia school managed to become known and respected internationally in a relatively short time span.

The teacher
« As a student at Alchimia, you never really met Manfred until the third year. He was a giant figure who arrived to the narrow street in Florence on Tuesdays. He spent time with the older students, watched the world from behind his sunglasses when he leaned onto the wall at coffee breaks, and then he vanished again.
It was not until you were there yourself – in your final year – that you met the myth and began to appreciate his capacity to engage in your work and to show you how you might develop it. He was a surprisingly selfless teacher, and during critiques in the small classroom he managed to create a space for you and him to engage in a dialogue about your work that was stripped of second agendas and based solely on how he could help you to become a better artist.
It is only later, you come to understand how exceptionally truthful and helpful he tried to be in order to make you grow as a person and as an artist. »

EXPO ‘New Territories’ – Ilias Lalaounis Jewelry Museum, Athens (GR) – 3 Fevr.–15 Mai 2016

at Ilias Lalaounis Jewelry Museum.

50 GREEK STUDIO JEWELERS UNVEIL THEIR RECENT WORK DESIGNED AND MANUFACTURED IN GREECE

We are pleased to introduce the new temporary exhibition: « New Territories » . The exhibition will be launched on 3rd February at the Ilias Lalaounis Jewelry Museum and will show case the recent work of 50 Greek studio jewelry artists currently working in Greece

opening on 3rd February. 19h-22h

New Territories - Athens

The new exhibition at the Ilias Lalaounis Jewelry Museum, “New territories”, brings together 50 established and emerging Greek studio jewelry artists presenting unique works show cased for the first time.
Handcrafted in the workshops of the artists, these jewelry objects are the antithesis of commercial high end, fine or jewelry of mass production. These works display a progression from traditional Greek metalsmithing to the use of new techniques and types, straying from the two-dimensional form and materials of the traditional object. They are marked by their direct and close connection to socio-political developments, the world of fashion and international trends in studio jewelry. The exhibition aims to showcase the talent as well as to highlight them as part of a vibrant current in contemporary visual art.
The exhibition illustrates the designers’ boundless imagination as well as the dynamism of a new “industry” associated to international studio jewelry production. New trends in crafts have grown to reply to global competition reflecting current events. Still, history and cultural traditions are very much embedded in the Greek artists’ agenda and the artists have been inspired from ancient Greek mythological heroes to Byzantine religious art and Greek regional costumes from the 17th and 18th centuries. However, evoking a moment in time is just what the artists attempt to show in this exhibition. It is here were we meet some troubled citizens influenced by the current economic unrest exploring a visual representation of catastrophe and then hope. Others seek a more romantic side of contemporary making and address environmental issues, using driftwood and dried flowers. Many of the artists have become involved in teaching classes to mentor the young ones in their own secrets. These experienced artists share with us works that are conceptual but of the highest technical craftsmanship. In the hands of the craftsmen we find that wearable jewelry can become free standing objects and vice versa, leaving the viewer to experience and imagine form and function in three dimensions.
Bridging geographical barriers we find that many of the participants have participated in shows in European countries mainly Germany, France, Spain, Italy and the Netherlands.  Their participation in art fairs and major jewelry shows has brought them experience with current trends and a new know how. But there is still some way until a higher recognition from museum curators and private collectors. After 22 years of presenting innovative temporary exhibitions with decorative arts and promoting studio jewelry in Greece, the ILJM once again attempts to take the initiative to showcase the work of contemporary artists active in Greece and abroad.  For this we have enriched our winter program with lectures by distinguished international guests from museums and galleries, art historians and collectors who will meet with the artists and give lectures to the public. Also in the next few months artists will organize events to better demonstrate their work to experts and the public through lectures, workshops, performances and highlight the educational role of the exhibition.

Unclasped is an exhibition of contemporary jewellery objects, bringing together and examining the practices of twenty-two artists of Greek descent currently working in Greece, Germany, the United Kingdom, the United States of America, Cyprus and Australia.
The exhibition aims to provide a platform for contemporary thought in order to highlight the work of both established and emerging international Greek artists.
Exploring the connections between the manufacture and the act of wearing jewellery, the works encompass a wide variety of contemporary jewellery making techniques and mediums; expressing the diverse nature of modern jewellery practice within the Hellenic diaspora.

EXPO ‘IS THAT JEWELRY ?’ – Anamma Studio, Athens (GR) – 2-5 Juill. 2015

« IS THAT JEWELRY ? » – EXHIBITION OF CONTEMPORARY JEWELRY -

ANAMMA STUDIO – ATHENS

IS THAT JEWELRY?
An exhibition that wonders and asks about the many different aspects of contemporary jewelry
« How do you wear this ring? »
« Is your brooch dangerous? »
« Why is your necklace so large? »
« Is that jewelry ? » exhibition does not have all the answers. But it has many ideas to get the discussion started. It has plenty of creators and jewelry in order to make this an interesting discussion. It also has many parallel activities (performances and workshops) – not just words. The most important thing, it has the desire to guide you through the fascinating world of contemporary jewelry, the way the participants and the creators are experiencing it.

Y’a un OS ………..

« Y’a un OS » ….

this expression (« Il y a un os » or « tomber sur un os » [to hit a snag]) means that there is a problem when you « find a bone » … but the dog seems happy when finding a bone ??! why men are not happy ??

But, with this post, perhaps women will be happy when « finding bones » ! ;-)

jewelry with bones ….
