From the Coolest Corner: Nordic Jewellery presents an exciting and broad range of the contemporary studio jewellery created in the Nordic countries. From the Coolest Corner: Nordic Jewellery has a three-fold aim: to present the newest and most advanced contemporary Nordic jewellery, to intensify the discourse on today’s jewellery and strengthen the knowledge about this field, and to consolidate Nordic jewellery’s position in national and international arenas.
Jewellery will be presented in 3 different ways: a touring exhibition, a comprehensive book and an international Seminar Re-Public Jewellery, all shedding new light on the importance of this art. Denmark, Estonia, Finland, Iceland, Norway and Sweden will be the main collaborators in this project.
The touring exhibition From the Coolest Corner was opened at The National Museum – The Museum of Decorative Arts and Design in Oslo in January 2013. It then travelled to The DesignMuseum Finland in Helsinki, The Designmuseum Danmark in Copenhagen, The Estonian Museum of Applied Art and Design in Tallin, The Röhsska Museum of Design and Applied Arts in Gothenburg and The Lithuanian Art Museum in Vilnius.
During “Schmuck 2015” it is shown at the Galerie Handwerk in Munich.
This main exhibition presents 159 works by 61 artists from the Nordic countries including five invited honorary artists and a selected group of artists from Estonia.
The international seminar Re-Public Jewellery will take place on March 13th at the Galerie Handwerk, 10:00-15:00.
To strengthen the interest in and knowledge of art jewellery, artistic tendencies and research within the field will be presented both in the seminar and in the book.
All these different presentations of Nordic studio jewellery together, aim at contributing to reinforce the image of contemporary Nordic Jewellery as expressive, reflexive and “cool”.
The project is a result of a cooperation between the three Norwegian partners (The National Museum –The Museum of Decorative Arts and Design in Oslo, The Norwegian Association for Arts and Crafts and Oslo National Academy of the Arts) and their associated organizers in the Nordic museums of design and decorative arts, the Nordic crafts associations and the national colleges of art and design as well as, of course, our sponsors Nordic Culture Point, Nordic Culture Fund, Arts Council Norway.
The exhibition is sponsored by the Nordic Culture Point, the Nordic Culture Fund, the Arts Council Norway and Galerie Handwerk of the Bavarian Chamber of Crafts

PREZIOSA is a cultural project designed and co-ordinated by “Le Arti Orafe”, since 1985 the most prestigious contemporary jewellery school in Italy.
The project, launched in 2005, has become one of the most important European events devoted to contemporary jewellery.
The conceptual quality, the presence of artists of international fame, the prestigious set-up, the elegant catalogues and the original formula that comprises the organisation of conferences with the artists taking part, make “Preziosa” an appointment that lovers of contemporary jewellery cannot afford to miss.
A country of exquisite jewellery traditions, Italy has no museum devoted to jewellery, and temporary exhibitions have always been rare.
The attention devoted by the communication media and the cultural institutions to initiatives devoted to this art form has – apart from a few shining exceptions – always been limited, while great interest has always been expressed by lovers of contemporary art.
Through the organisation of events such as PREZIOSA, the school wishes to help to fill a gap the discrepancy of which is more or less consciously acknowledged.
Since 2008, a «parallel» exibition for young artists is organized: PREZIOSA Young is already an international reference for new artists and goldsmiths

EXPO ‘Daniela Hedman and Agnes Larsson: Guldrush’ – Bergrummet, Slite Utveckling, Slite, Gotland (Sweden) – 18-20 Juill. 2014

Daniela Hedman and Agnes Larsson: Guldrush

GULDRUSH

”GULDRUSH” is Daniela Hedman‘s and Agnes Larsson’s first exhibition together. Working and living in Stockholm, Sweden, but both with a connection to the swedish island Gotland where the artists now will show their work for the first time.
The exhibition will take place deep inside an underground rock shelter located in the industrial city of Slite. Slite offers Gotland’s unique nature and at the same time a pure industrial environment. Inspired by this place the artists have created the exhibition ”GULDRUSH”. In connection with the exhibition the artists will hold a workshop for locals and visitors on the island, introducing thinking- and artistic processes related to contemporary jewellery. The project is a collaboration between Daniela Hedman, agnes Larsson and Slite Utvecklig.
Daniela Hedman‘s work relates to her fundamental interest with the human body. She is fascinated by the body’s ongoing physical presence and what impact it has on our spirituality. Her jewellery revolves around the relationship between the object and the body, and she is constantly searching for different connections between the two of them.
In deep investigations of natural materials Agnes Larsson is working with opposites to create tensions in the material. Her work is often inspired by the powerful forces that surround us in life such as heaviness and lightness, living and dead. The core of her work lies in the material which rather than telling a truth is focusing on forming a paradox.

EXPO ‘FROM THE COOLEST CORNER’ – National Museum of Art, Architecture & Design, Oslo (Norway) – 19 janv.-21 Avril 2013

FROM THE COOLEST CORNER - Nordic Jewellery

from the coolest corner

From the Coolest Corner – Nordic Jewellery presents groundbreaking and fresh jewellery from Northern Europe, a comprehensive selection of current works by artists from Denmark, Finland, Iceland, Norway, Sweden and the Baltic States. The best and most innovative Scandinavian art jewellery is presented, assessing its possibilities and potential at the beginning of the twenty-first century.
The project presented in this publication, culminating in a symposium and a travelling exhibition, challenges stereotypical notions of northern European art jewellery. Do the typical Nordic trends of the nineteen-nineties still apply today? Indeed are there currently any general trends at all in Scandinavian design? Or has the orientation towards international design become so dominant that there are no longer any regional characteristics?
Renowned experts have made a selection of representative works, as a basis for researching the role of northern European jewellery in the context of international art.

With 160 works by artists from Denmark, Finland, Iceland, Norway, Sweden and the Baltic States, this publication considers the significance, strategies and trends of Nordic jewellery art in the early twenty-first century. Expert authors present the backgrounds, developments and characteristics of the contemporary jewellery.

allaallaalla !!!! brooches journey – Sweden – 25-27 Oct. 2011

Jewellery has always been a way to show cultural identity, belonging, status or views. ALLA is a project where 30 jewellery artists living in Sweden have created unique brooches as a reaction to the theme of xenophobia.
These brooches will be taken on a journey from northern to southern Sweden between the 25-27th of October.

Daniela Hedman was born in 1979. She works and lives in Stockholm, Sweden.
Daniela started her studies in jewellery in 2002 at Holbaek Kunsthøjskole(Denmark) and continued her studies in silversmithing at Nyckelviksskolan, Stockholm(Sweden). In the years between 2003-2008 she took a Bachelor’s and a Master’s Degree at Konstfack – University of Arts and Crafts, Ädellab – jewellery and corpus, Stockholm(Sweden). Since her graduation she has participated in exhibitions and publications in Sweden and abroad.
Her main concern is jewellery making but she also works with different media to fully express herself on the field of contemporary jewellery.
With her work « GROUND – Description of a relation between body and object » she deals with a deeper way of looking at the core of contemporary jewellery, which in her view is the connection and relationship between body and object.
During that interaction the core of what happens when a body and object meet is described.
