EXPO ‘Hardware Artware’ – Atta Gallery, Bangkok (Thailand) – 2 mai-2 juin 2013

Hardware Artware

Hardware Artware-

“Little fragments, links and colors which are connected to each other points towards one direction. Their reason is not always visible at first sight, but by using them and by taking a deeper look under their surfaces, they open up another world…a world full of new information that connects people together.
Hardware – Artware is an intensive and compact connection full of tension.”
The group of 5 jewelers started to work together one and a half years ago in search for alternative ways of display for contemporary jewelry. Their aim is to display their jewelry pieces in new and unexpected ways.

FLOURISH exhibition - 'Wine Leaf' brooches by Akiko Kurihara in silver and glass cut from wine bottles‘Wine Leaf’ brooches by Akiko Kurihara in silver and glass cut from wine bottles

« Things are flourishing in the jewellery garden ….giant porcelain cabbage necklaces, cut glass ‘Wine Leaf’ brooches, overblown bright blue enamel blossom jewels…

With an international reputation for showcasing the best in radical contemporary jewellery, Kath Libbert Jewellery Gallery, based at Salts Mill since 1996, marks her sixteenth birthday with flair! Flourish exhibits a fantastical array of art jewellery selected from around the globe.

From Dutch artist Nina Sajet’s surreal transformation of cabbages and sprouts into fine porcelain neckpieces, to South Korean Seulgi Kwon’s marvellous delicately tinted intricate silicone organisms that come to life when touched and worn. Textile inspired Francisca Bauza from Germany and Mallorca presents vibrant enamelled floral necklaces whose folds in metal and crimped edges mimic material; Yu-Ping Lin from Taiwan creates playful Origami inspired textile brooches that mutate into bracelets and back again – like jewellery ‘Transformers’- they can be worn in a myriad of different ways!

Additionally 100 international jewellers involved with the gallery over the last sixteen years have been invited to each enter an exuberant celebratory ring into a flamboyant competition called FlourishRing! Visitors to the gallery will be able to vote for their favourite by trying it on and being photographed modelling it. These photos will then become part of a growing installation on the walls of the gallery. The FlourishRing that gets the most public votes during the exhibition will win £250.

The gallery has represented a host of fantastic jewellers over the years including many renowned award winning UK and international art jewellers for instance Jacqueline Mina, OBE who is a Jerwood Prize winner, Georg Dobler twice winner of the Herbert Hoffman Prize – the most prestigious international art jewellery award, Adam Paxon – winner of the Jerwood Prize and the Herbert Hoffman prize and Malcolm Morris who created the tiaras worn by Gwyneth Paltrow in ‘Shakespeare in Love’.

Kath Libbert, the gallery’s founder and curator says: ‘’We are honoured that these celebrities of the jewellery world are all going to be taking part in FlourishRing along with many new creative talents. I can’t wait to see what they each come up with!!”

Artists taking part in FLOURISH are: Akiko Kurihara, Germany/Japan; Seulgi Kwon, South Korea; Mari Iwamoto, Japan; Katja Schlegel, Germany; Nina Sajet, the Netherlands; Francisca Bauzá, Germany/Mallorca; Märta Mattsson, Sweden; Réka Fekete, the Netherlands/Hungary; Yu-Ping Lin, UK/Taiwan. Additionally 100 International jewellers who have exhibited with the Gallery of the past 16 years at Salts Mill will be taking part in FlourishRing an exuberant celebratory competition, the winner to be decided by public vote.

What is jewellery?
This new publication is a reflection on that question. Here is an interdisciplinary approach transcending the familiar categories crafts or art, applied or fine. What matters here is exploring what jewellery is – not what it looks like. Thinking Jewellery is the distilled result of a symposium with the same title that has been jointly hosted since 2005 by the Idar-Oberstein course in gem and jewellery design by Trier Polytechnic and the city of Idar-Oberstein. Each year in May more than a hundred jewellery designers, students and academics from all over Europe convene in Idar-Oberstein to conduct a comprehensive discourse without boundaries on the theoretical foundations of jewellery. The publication contains the most interesting lectures given over the five years since the Colloquium was instituted by major artists in jewellery, distinguished ethnologists, philosophers, psychologists, cultural anthropologists and scientists. Lavishly illustrated to showcase the objects discussed, it documents the standards so spectacularly achieved by the Idar-Oberstein Jewellery Institute.
« ThinkingJewellery » fascinatingly exemplifies the productive interaction of theoretical reflection and practical execution

Klassiker der Schmuck 2012
Jens Rüdiger Lorenzen, Deutschland

This year there will be a retrospective exhibition of the work of a « Modern Classic » designer. In 2012 the chosen designer is the German goldsmith Jens Rüdiger Lorenzen. Together with Francesco Pavan, Lorenzen was the first goldsmith to be awarded the Herbert Hofmann Prize, back in 1973. The award presentation ceremony, which this year is being held on Saturday, 17 March 2012, is always one of the highlights at SCHMUCK. Lorenzen, who was born in 1942 in Hagen, Westphalia, taught at the « Staatliche Zeichenakadamie » in Hanau from 1974 to 1985, while also acting as a visiting lecturer at the « Hochschule für Gestaltung » in Pforzheim, at which college he then, in 1985, took up an appointment as a professor. He continued to teach there in the jewellery design department until retiring in 2008.

With the cooperation of several artists who exhibit their works at different places in Munich during these ‘Jewellery Days’, on the evening before the start of the trade fair jewellery is being presented directly on the body. The jewellery stirs emotions and prompts diverse conversations. At the bar, artists, jewellery lovers and laymen meet; there is room for an animated exchange.   « It is sad when a mother has to speak the words that condemn her own son. I can’t allow them to think I would commit murder. Put him away now as I should have years ago. He was always bad and in the end he intended to tell them I killed those girls and that man, as if I could do anything but just sit and stare like one of his stuffed birds. They know I can’t move a finger and I want to just sit here and be quiet just in case they suspect me. They’re probably watching me. Well, let them. Let them see what kind of a person I am. I’m not even going to swat that fly. I hope they are watching… they’ll see. They’ll see and they’ll know, and they’ll say, « Why, she wouldn’t even harm a fly…«

B-SIDE Festival – 2nd Edition – Amsterdam – 3-6 Nov. 2011

B-side DownTown Art Jewellery Festival:
An energetic, self-created festival for jewellery artists. It brings together a series of jewellery exhibitions and performances on different locations throughout the city of Amsterdam.

B-side DownTownArtJewellery Festival is an energetic, self-created festival for jewellery artists. The 2nd edition takes place from the 3rd until the 6th of November 2011 and brings together a series of jewellery exhibitions and performances in the city of Amsterdam. This event is initiated by min-association; Maaike Ebbinge – Iris Tsante – Noémie Doge,

who graduated from Amsterdam’s Gerrit Rietveld Academy in 2007 and 2008.
B-side gives artists the opportunity to explore new ways of showing their jewellery to the world. Each artist is encouraged to take responsibility for his of her own part in a bigger chain or route.
B-side emphasises the festive side of a festival and celebrate the art of jewellery. The aim of the festival is to show different ways of presenting and thinking about art jewellery through exhibitions and performances. It allows exploration of spaces that aren’t usually used for exhibition purposes, for example parks, ateliers, bicycles, empty buildings, a living room, a café or the back of a car.
B-side happens simultaneously with other inspiring jewellery events in Amsterdam.
B-side shows designs that go very much beyond mass-produced jewellery. It shows an artistic way of presenting and dealing with jewellery. The value of this jewellery is not defined by precious metals, but by their visual force and strong concept.
There are many jewellery artists working in Amsterdam. Three of the four most renowned Dutch jewellery galleries are based here, and the jewellery department of the Rietveld Academy is well-k

nown for its active students and teachers. We are very happy to be able to celebrate Amsterdam’s special connection to jewellery with this special platform for art jewellery.
B-side, another side of jewellery.

B-side DownTownArtJewellery Festival is organised by: min-association.com (Maaike Ebbinge, Iris Tsante & Noémie Doge)

Where the heart is

”Strong wind in the face, the sea roaring loudly, lots of curious materials hidden in the sand, my thoughts explore the freedom of space. This is where the heart is, this is where my jewellery pieces are born.” M.E.

“I like working intensively with materials. When the materials start “speaking” and taking their own way, that is where their heart is.” I.T.

“I search for hidden stories by dismantling forgotten relics; I reinvent them picking up the pieces; I’m a treasure hunter, ferreting where their heart is. ” N.D.

The girls from GLA love to play with words, having each their own process in jewellery making, which in their hands, becomes both profound and funny. Galatée Pestre tells the importance of jewellery with signs, while Laurence Verdier explores sensuality, and  Aude Medori shows  commitment to adornment.

COUP de COEUR : Francisca BAUZA FORSTER

Coup de coeur, découverte, tout ce que vous voudrez !!! :-) des colliers tous plus somptueux les uns que les autres !

« Francisca Bauza is a young jewellery artist from Germany. She studies Gemstone and Jewellery Design in Fachhohschule Trier in Idar-Oberstein,Germany. Textile is an essential material in her work. It’s a feminine material, which is really closely related to the body. Francisca’s pieces are beautiful, strong and yet tender. They tell stories about inner strenghts of people. » (Galleri Norsu)

« About my pieces :
The material textile is essential in my works.Textile reveals emotions, which are strongly connected to my own life and the human body itself. In my pieces I use textile in a direct way or I communicate the idea of its versatile language through out another material. This feminine material, which carries feelings of security, is strongly alive. When it comes in relation to the human body they affect themselves and are shaped by this interrelation. Folds are a connection point between the human body and the material textile. Folding interacts with the body; they turn the body around to emphasis the inside. Textile folds that are draped around our body express and shape our inner surface. These folds, which are cloth to the human body, communicate the inner strengths of a person. »

EXPO ‘Mediterraneo’ – Museo di Storia Naturale del Mediterraneo, Livorno (IT) – 12-19 Avril 2011

 MEDITERRANEO

INTERNATIONAL EXPOSITION OF CONTEMPORARY JEWELRY
