THE RING – the most common piece of jewellery can be full of meaning, a personal statement sometimes showing itself as a technical miracle or purely decorative and beautiful. It can demand attention, be an invitation to play, be filled with tears and secrets – and is to be worn for one day or for ever.
In homage to the ring Galleri Hnoss has invited all the jewellery artists exhibited in the gallery since the start in 1997 to produce one ring each. The result is now to be seen in the exhibition THE RING – jewel forever. The show consisting of over one hundred rings is a vibrant collection of different expressions, thoughts and forms

EXPO ‘Brooch / Bross’ – Sterling Gallery, Budapest (HU) – 26 Mai-17 Juin 2011

The Sterling Gallery cordially invites you to an exclusive exhibition, entitled BROOCH, of young contemporary artists.

https://d15cquu4k8zfpu.cloudfront.net/photos/1243/hl.jpg?1304935474

Sterling Gallery located in Budapest (H) organizing an exclusive exhibition, entitled BROOCH in order to create an interactive information exchange, a dialogue, a conversation or a meeting between Hungarian and international artists from different countries.

The jewel as a « household object » has pronounced functional complexity.
It has both a role and a tradition in each community.
It can be inferred from certain eras, cultures, ethnic groups and lifestyles, habits and thinking.
It might be a sign, or a symbol which is answering to a non-asked question.
It can refer to the wearer’s age, identity, the religious affiliation, marital status.
It is the distinguishing sign of the everyday and the holidays, a status symbol.
It is a part of magical and practical function in people’s lives.
A jewel fits the body and it’s present in clothing.
The jewel expresses the relationship between people.
The brooch, brooches have also been made in the Bronze Age, Greek, Roman and in other European workshops.

These had a functional role as indispensable elements of clothing and self representation.
The brooches had the force to join, screw and fix the fabric of the cloth.
The use of the buttons and buckles took the practical role of the brooch away, but in the same time the aesthetic function of the brooch has been enhanced.

Workshop : Helena Lehtinen: Cameo
Cameo is a traditional piece of jewellery which has its origins in seals.
During history it has been in and out of fashion in courts in Europe. Nowdays it is usually a red-white silhuet of a lady, most often worn by eldery ladies.
Reflecting to what this classical piece of jewellery has been in the past, students will search cameo´s meaning today.
What it has been, what it could be? Is there any significancy left, what it could present in today´s society / to today´s people?
 What is your cameo?
With new materials and way of working students will create new traditions in cameos.
Working with stone is possible in the workshop.
Lead by jewellery artist Helena Lehtinen,
 assistant Tarja Tuupanen
Cameo is a part of The Spirit of Stone event that will bring to Lappeenranta an exhibition,

SCHMUCK 2011- ‘HELENA LEHTINEN: GARDENS’ – Munich (DE) – 17-20 mars 2011

Classé dans : Allemagne (DE),Exposition/Exhibition,Helena LEHTINEN (FI),SCHMUCK / MJW (DE) — bijoucontemporain @ 17:05

during SCHMUCK 2011

Contemporary Jewellery Exhibition by HELENA LEHTINEN: GARDENS

Tatiana Pagés, Necklace, 2009

Helena Lehtinen lives and works in Lahti, Finland. She did her studies in Lahti Polytechnics. Since 2008 Helena is enjoying a 5 year working grant from State Applied Art Commission in Finland. She has been exhibiting internationally since 1990.
In this solo exhibition Helena is looking into function of the memory. How defective and flimsy is the information the memory produces.
In Finland, during the winter snow is abound. The landscape is nearly black and white, or more like white mixed with grey shadows. Everything is blanketed in many layers of snow. One can only wonder what is under all those white hillocks?
It could be considered a bit contradictory to think of how a garden in bloom might look in winter. What was again the real narcissus yellow or the darling blue shade? How does a mind produce these visions? How does our memory hold on to those colors. What feelings remain? Can’t we almost smell the perfumes of the gardens that elude us?
The imaginary winter garden has a certain beauty that is different than a blooming garden in summer.

Helena Lehtinen – coup de soleil sur la Finlande

Helena Lehtinen, coup de soleil sur le bijou …. et pourtant son site s’appelle « hibernate » …. la Finlande et ses « froidures » ?

« My works are about memories from my family, my past; fragments, objects, photos without a camera. Identity is not stabile but in constant movement and change. I’m in between minimalism and kitsch; I hate and love both of them.«

« How to define the work of Helena Lehtinen? I would say that she works like a poet, making poems word by word, verse by verse, each poem forms part of a whole, close to life, close to fiction. Each jewellery object is meticulously made, whatsoever the material, is made with time like the words of a poem. All has to be just in the right place to express the right thing. She works carefully each object with the chosen materials that evoke memories, time and space.
These tiny sculptures, in another words, poems of jewellery, talk about memories of something left behind, but not to yearn for, but to make us aware of the space between these two worlds, the one we live in, the one we left behind. She weaves a bridge with the artworks that invites us to walk in and to get into a state of mind. It will make our approach much easier. Like the smell of a rose reminds us that a rose bush is somewhere even we do not see yet any, or when we hear a voice in the darkness, we recognise that behind that sound is a human voice, a person. Can we carry her art objects? Is there any functionality in them? If we talk about art pieces, functionality is not the first thing to be thought about, because there are other values much relevant to be considered. The strength of Lehtinen’s art (jewellery) lies just in the transcription of a jewellery language into a conceptual aspect, therefore, her artworks need to be displayed somewhere to have viewers.
Why not to use the human body walking in the crowds, spreading the art message to by-passers like poems written on underground walls. Art belongs to the people, has been said. We should not be afraid of it. We can surely carry an object in our clothes and let by-passers approach us to look at it. The viewer is searching and experimenting through materials, form and colour. The concept of the creator is there, like the smell and the rose, they are altogether part of the story. After all, between fiction and reality, Helena Lehtinen creates room for the mind.

Helena, what is the routine of one of your days?
I usually start in the morning going to my studio and watching the works that I have in process. I also work with ready-made objects, so going around flea markets searching for objects and its hidden history is part of my artistic work. It is very important for me to see in the morning what I left behind last. It is reading and reading again these objects and their memories once more. It helps me in the process of understanding things.
Who o which work has caused great influence in you?
I must say that it was a piece of jewellery by Prof. Otto Künzli “Gold makes you blind” that I saw in 1980 in Pforzheim, Germany. The gold was hidden inside the piece. It was something that made me think profoundly and I think this experience opened my mind and visions on contemporary jewellery. There was so much in it and it was remarkable for my artistic career. Later on in 1997 I met Rudt Peters and his philosophical approaches in art making were significant for me.
What role material plays in your work?
I would say that every material has its own history and I try to work with it, especially is very important when I work with found objects, because each piece is impregnated with history.
In what projects are you involved just now at the moment?
A theme I work now is landscapes, inner landscapes, it sounds deep, but I love things that are not superfluous. Artist’s life is to show what one does. I participate in several exhibitions around the world. Now I’m working for group exhibitions in Ornamentum and Marzee galleries and also there something coming in Idar-Oberstein » (Antonio Altarriba -Design co-ordinator Arts Council of Southeast Finland – Baltic Jewellery News)

EXPO ‘LINGAM’ – Galerie du WCC-BF, Mons (Belgique) – 8 mai-22 aout 2010
