The Beauty Chase – Parcours esthétiques du bijou contemporain. Ce n’est pas Un diamant gros comme le Ritz qui rend fantastique le bijou contemporain, mais la capacité de l’artiste à créer des mondes imaginaires avec les matériaux les plus divers. Le doute et l’innovation, la recherche et l’idée sont au centre du bijou contemporain, il n’y a pas de chemin tracé à suivre. Dans le parcours de la création, le caractère précieux tient donc plus au projet et au travail qu’au matériau “brut” utilisé. Papier, bois, plastique, or ou titane, tissu ou verre : la matière choisie est déjà un mode d’expression esthétique avec l’envie d’être “autre”. C’est justement là l’aspect « fantastique » du bijou contemporain : l’envie de travestissement et de transformation qui le rend surprenant. Le plastique ne semble plus en être, la résine devient bois, l’or se transforme en se mêlant au tissu, au plexiglass, au pigment, le verre révèle sa transparence là où et quand l’artiste le veut. Très développé en Europe du Nord, peu connu par le grand public en France où la tradition de la haute joaillerie éclipse, peut être, tout le reste, le bijou contemporain expérimente, ose, provoque, crée avec des résultats poétiques, irrévérencieux ou ironiques, spectaculaires voire féériques. Et, si on veut emprunter les mots de Tzvetan Todorov, en sa présence: “on accepte le surnaturel”.

”MicroCosmi Preziosi” is an exibition of 12 Italian designers about the contemporary jewel, to be held from the 29th of May to the 1st ofJune 2012.

Jewels as microsculptures to wear, with plastic, metal, precious and semi precious stones.
MicroCosmi … because every jewel may represent a universe, a world, a history to tell and to be told, where the artist can go beyond his bounds to test new forms
Emotions …. which emerge slowly…. from the physical contact, from the possession!
Jewels thought as small worlds, in which everyone can find a new nuance..unique realities with a story to tell, which  amaze us!
Jewels have a magic power ….. they express a vital force, our passion beyond their value….
A jewel can blossom by the ability of  the mind …. by the skill of the hands and by the warm of fire.
The  daring trends, which have  emerged from the last VicenzaOro Exhibition, encourage us to abandon  tradition for the new proposals of the contemporary jewel, which are in constant evolution.
Infact, the creation af a  jewel  is not based on any clear models, but it is the result of a  continuous research and testing.

The following are some of the most important emerging artists in this field:

« I think IRON is a beautiful material, with a very unique character. The only jewellery that I wear is an iron ring. I wear it all the time, except when I work at the farm. I sleep, I take a shower, I wash the dishes wearing it. And after 5 years it is still shiny! The only thing is, after getting it wet I need to wipe it. At the beginning it left a mark on my finger, but after a while, when we have « oxidized to each other », there was no mark anymore. Iron jewellery needs care – just like silver does. Not being a precious metal it is more reactive with the environment and with you: If you get ill it will leave a dark mark on your finger again. Probably because of the changed acidity of the skin or your jewel worrying for you . When you swim in the sea the same happens, unless you rinse it with fresh water and wipe it immediately. I think it is nice to live together with such a strong and sensitive metal.
My AXE RINGS are not meant to hurt anyone. Just as my poison rings are not meant to kill anyone or to make her/him sick. They have symbolic power, like an amulet. Actually they are amulets. The experience of wearing them – the shape, the material, the touch, the smell, the weight – gives you strength to carry out positive and creative things. Or negative. That’s not my responsibility anymore, but it still doesn’t mean to punch someone in the head! The fact that the axe rings are made of solid iron, they really do have an edge, the poison rings can really hide something, it gives you a prickly feeling, and after all, like most jewellery is supposed to do, they look good.
For me they have a rather personal meaning: I worked in the forest with animals, and the axe, hacker, hoe and other tools are the tools and symbols of struggling for life.
I want to give you the same feeling, like the little child feels, when he buckles on his plastic sword, and he thinks that he is powerful. That is a serious thing! It is natural, and we never outgrow it, at best we might deny it. But we are big guys/girls now, we are not allowed to do that anymore… Still, art often gives you similar power just simple with colors, shapes, voices. If you can wear these artifacts, I call them amulets, and that power will stay with you all the day, every day. «  (Janos Gabor VARGA) (quel beau nom ! )

EXPO ‘Archeo-gioielli contemporanei’ Museo Archeologico di Anzio (IT) – 30 mai-6 juin 2010

La mostra« Archeo-gioielli contemporanei«  si terrà al Museo Archeologico di Anzio (IT) dal 30 maggio al 6 giugno.  Per partecipare a questa iniziativa l’artista deve realizzare un gioiello contemporaneo con qualsiasi tipo di tecnica e materiale ispirato alla classicità romana, iscrivendosi entro oggi, 10 aprile 2010, all’indirizzo mail [e-mail]

Una esposizione significativa sia da un punto di vista culturale che territoriale; quella che può sembrare una contraddizione, l’archeologico-contemporaneo, costituisce in realtà un confronto forte tra passato e presente la cui finalità espositiva è quella di mettere in dialogo l’arte classica con il gioiello contemporaneo.
Il concetto che si vuole sottolineare è che l’Arte, come tutta la Storia, è un continuum temporale, e dimostrare così che, anche se con linguaggi differenti, la capacità espressiva e i concetti che sono alla base di essa restano sostanzialmente invariati nel tempo. A conferma di ciò basta osservare l’evoluzione del gioiello contemporaneo che è sempre più spesso ospite dei più importanti musei grazie alla sua altissima espressione artistica.
