Frozen Moment – The Night
« I’ve always been fascinated by the ambiance that you can sense in any space that is entered. Similarly to shinto – the indigenous religion of Japan, where many objects have their own spiritual essence. I would call it a ghost. Frozen Moment – The Night pieces are a lot about concept of what memory is leaving us with or of a moment in time. While making Night edition I was also thinking about feeling that night gives to me: it’s cold, dark and full of mystery and fears. I was looking for materialization of these abstract matters. I based it on associations and feelings. After a period of research, I came up with my own material, that the pieces are made of.
This material has two main compounds: polymer, that is lightweight and gives color, just like ‘a moment’ leavesimpression and magma sand, that creates an illusion of a solid stone – material that I strongly associate with concept of memory. In my work, I use a lot of colour that is expression of another spectrum, spectrum of emotions. The Night edition is characterized by black mixed with dark shades of blue, red and yellow. I am using same techniques and approach as I designed earlier at the same time expanding and exploring more. In the beginning of crafting each piece, material is hot and dynamic but in a while it turns still. Like another metaphor of a moment becoming a memory. When looking at my works, people often are saying that they look
like ice, unknown minerals or minuscule surreal landscapes. I question traditional approaches and instead of valuable jewels I celebrate the idea behind the material. That’s why for the rear of the brooches and other supporting details I use valuable metals like gold and titanium. »

Hatara Project started in 2015 as a collaboration between Annea Lounatvuori and Christine Jalio. The name Hatara, from the Finnish hattara – cotton candy – describes something dreamy, sweet and concrete but eventually fragile. Hatara is a meeting point between jewellery artists that have different backgrounds and come from different countries. It’s a connection, an exchange of culture, an experience and knowledge. Now we are 14 women from Finland, Sweden, Latvia, Germany, Japan, France, Australia and The Netherlands.

Meet the artists taking part in this year’s Munich Jewelry Week exhibition TIME PERCEPTION VOL.3.
Jelizaveta Suska
She was born in Latvia, where she completed her Bachelor degree education in Art Academy of Latvia as a metal designer. At the age of 24 she moved to Gothenburg in Sweden for studying and permanent living. In 2015 she graduated from Academy of Design and Crafts (HDK) at University of Gothenburg.
In year 2016 Jelizaveta received The Herbert Hofmann Prize, and Amber prize at Amberif Award.
‘Frozen Moment’ pieces are a lot about feelings of nostalgia, of a moment in time. In my work, I was looking for materialization of these abstract matters. I based it on associations and feelings. After a period of research, I came up with my own material that the pieces are made of. This material has two main compounds: polymer, that is light and transparent, just like ‘a moment’ and crushed marble, that creates an illusion of a solid stone which I associate with a feeling of nostalgia.
In the beginning of crafting each piece, material is hot and dynamic but in a while it turns still. Like a metaphor of a moment becoming a memory. When looking at my works, people often are saying that they look like ice or unknown minerals.
I question traditional approaches and instead of valuable jewels I celebrate the idea behind the material. That’s why for the rear of the brooches and other supporting details I use valuable metals like gold, gold plated silver and titanium.
In this project, I created more than 200 hundred pieces. I then selected 21 and crafted them into the jewelry.

but let Jelizaveta have the lest words to finish this year 2016 :

« Time to make a summary of this amazing year. So many things happened to me that I actually think it has been more than one year. I have traveled to Netherlands, Germany, Poland, Italy, Spain, Finland, Danmark and Norway. WOW!!! Fells like a dream, not all of it was a good dream. Shit also happened. But lets stay on a bright side. I got a cat!
Than I got two awards: Amberif Amber prize and Herbert Hoffman Prize. My work was featured in several prints between them is The New York Times (hell yeah!!! EXCHANGE-BIJOU 1 – Jelizaveta Suska - Beauties like asteroïds ..... dans COUP DE COEUR 1f603 :D ), exhibited at Liljevalsch Springsalong, Moving Art Project, Schmuck 2016, gallery Sintra, Nääs Konsthantverk, Joya Barcelona, Konstepidemin, gallery PLATINA, gallery Blunk. My work is now at National Museum collection in Stockholm (MY Gosh!), collections of galleries Platina and Four, also in the collections of some of the most respectable and amazing collectors. I got support from several foundations, also from Swedish Arts and Grants committee.
All this puts a weight on my shoulders, gives me a kick and inspires. I still have a lot to learn and have to work hard. I look to a coming year with a hope for opportunity to work with art more than I could this year, to improve and never let down anyone.
I am so very grateful to everyone who supports me and likes what I do and believes in art jewelry. Thank you! »

I am a jewelry artist currently located in Gothenburg, Sweden. I made my bachelors in Art Academy of Latvia where I learned classical techniques and fine art disciplines.

WOW ! THAT is a LADY jeweller !

FROZEN MOMENTS began in 2015, the moment when I discovered Jelizaveta SUSKA (yes, should say « Liza » but « Jelizaveta » sounds so musical and « exotic » for me ……..) !

« In this project, I am aiming to create pieces that would express solitude and moments of happiness.
I used, as a starting point, the idea of a silent moment. What is a moment?
For me it is incarnated in a stone, landscapes and blur. I use a polymer material and cover it with crushed marble. Silence is light and transparent like the material I use.
The unique combination of these two components creates the illusion of a solid stone.
I question traditional approaches and instead of valuable jewels I celebrate the idea behind the material.  For the rear of the brooches and other supporting details of the jewellery I use valuable metals like gold, gold plated silver and titanium.
My idea is to show the beauty of a moment in a landscape or stone-like abstract figures crafted in to brooches.
To make this project I crafted more than 200 hundred pieces. I selected 21 and made them into jewelry. »

« You have probably heard of the fairytale Thumbelina written by Hans Christian Andersen. When I was a child I imagined myself being as tiny as her; the gigantic world seemed to me to be more beautiful and full of tempting adventures. I still think that, sometimes.
It’s striking where our imagination can take us. When I work on my jewelry I aim to be a demiurge, to create my own new world. At times, I craft my works so that if I were to become tiny and drop onto my jewelry, I would see a marvelous landscape. Such associations, are for me a vessel that transfer ideas to the material. »

Platina Gallery opened 1999. From the beginning we have invited artists whose work mirrors our time. 17 years later, this summer 2016, we moved next door to a new space. Bigger and better and with same ambition as when we started, to show what we think is interesting right now.

Linnéa Eriksson and Jelizaveta Suska’s work are urban and human, they are dealing with time and materiality in different ways and their working processes are updating jewellery traditions.

Jelizaveta Suska will present works from « Frozen Moment » and « Frozen Moment the Night » Collections Frozen Moment Night edition. 2016. Jelizaveta Suska.: Jelizaveta Suska  Frozen Moment. The Night. 2016PLATINA‎ Jelizaveta SuskaJelizaveta Suska – brooch Frozen Moment Night edition. 2016.

AWARDS during JOYA 2016

ENJOIA’T is not just a prize, and you will not find just jewellery. ENJOIA’T is much more than all this, since it is also a celebration of creativity, an indispensable meeting point for professionals in the sector, and a platform from which to show the public your creative project. In fact, ENJOIA’T rewards originality, technical quality, conceptual richness and transgression in the field of jewellery making so much as to question its own limits.
