“There are as many butterflies as that are people, probably even many more.
Mystica tells us, that departed souls sometimes return as butterflies to comfort and reasure us.
But whatever the case, one thing is sure in this life they live short.
They are light and extremely agile and in the eyes of some are considered as very beautiful
The only animal who looks alive while not being it.
That is their tragedy. To be pinned on a board.
The butterfly for the artist is also a metaphor for life.
How big or small, how light or heavy do you make it?
It was my personal curiosity to ask artists whose work fascinate / intrigue me to show me their Butterfly.
Yes almost as intimate as this question sounds, so intimate in a way it is.”   Philip Sajet

because mirrors are invisible. You can only see the reflection of the surface and the colour and imagine spaces.
I make it from a suggestion of Philip Sajet.

I always liked to mix different quotations in my pieces.

To do a butterfly seemed to be very easy, but suddenly this insect really gave me problems. It became so serious but at the same time too sweet. I had to leave nature immediately and go back to the topics I am familiar with.

As a child I was already wondering how « things » got their name. Sometimes a word or a name is a combination of 2 or more words. also in the case of the Butterfly. Why?? I combined a pack of butter with a fly. Quess what? It doesnt look like a butterfly. For me its a strang name for a beautiful animal.

SCHMUCK 2013 – Munich (DE) – PROGRAMME – 6-12 Mars 2013

SCHMUCK is an international jewellery competition which is staged every year in March as part of the Internationale Handwerksmesse. For over fifty years SCHMUCK has been the jewellery sector´s premier exhibition. From among the many applications received from designers to exhibit in SCHMUCK, a single juror makes his or her own personal selection of those whose work will be presented. This juror is generally an international curator and expert in contemporary jewellery design. In 2006 the Danner Foundation took over as patron of the exhibition. The organiser is the Handwerkskammer für München und Oberbayern (Chamber of Trades and Crafts for Munich and Upper Bavaria), and the venue host is the Gesellschaft für Handwerksmessen mbH.

Willy Brandt Allee 1, 81829 München, Germany

EXPO ‘Karl Fritsch Jewellery’ – Manchester Art Gallery (UK) – 15 Fevr.-23 Juin 2013

Classé dans : Exposition/Exhibition,GALERIES,Grande-Bretagne (UK),Karl FRITSCH (DE) — bijoucontemporain @ 0:10

the first UK solo show of Karl Fritsch Jewellery.
Opens in Manchester on 15 February – 23 June.
Friday 15 February 2013 - Sunday 23 June 2013 Manchester Art Gallery - Karl Fritsch solo exhibition

Manchester Art Gallery presents the first UK solo exhibition from celebrated contemporary jewellery designer Karl Fritsch. Fritsch is a German-born, New Zealand-based jewellery designer whose highly sought-after work features in public and private collections around the world. Fritsch’s hand crafted jewellery is uniquely unconventional and according to exhibition curator Jo Bloxham ‘exudes an energy and fascination unlike that of any other living jeweller today.’ His playful approach combines precious and non-precious materials from gems to rusty screws alike, forging surreal yet perfect creations which push the boundaries of design to its limits.

Every piece is hand made and unique, often enabling the wearer to add his or her mark over time. At Manchester Art Gallery, many of the pieces will be available to buy with prices starting from £100 upwards.

Karl Fritsch will be giving a talk as part of our Thursday Lates programme on 14 March 2013, 6.30pm.

EXPO ‘LUCY In the Sky with diamonds’ – Galerie Rosemarie Jäger, Hochheim (DE) – 15 Sept.-7 Oct. 2012

Classé dans : Allemagne (DE),Exposition/Exhibition,GALERIES,Karl FRITSCH (DE),www ARTAUREA — bijoucontemporain @ 15:57

« In the Sky with diamonds » – 15/09–07/10 2012  Karl Fritsch – LUCY

Lucy, whose scientific name is “AL 288,” was a female hominid who lived in Africa 3.2 million years ago. A bone formation was discovered in her hand which made it possible for her to hold tools between her thumb and forefinger. She was named after the Beatles’ song “Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds.”

EXPO ‘Karl Fritsch: Die Allgäuer Ringmaschine’ – Gallery Funaki, Melbourne (AU) – 3-9 Sept. 2012

Karl Fritsch: Die Allgäuer Ringmaschine

German jeweller Karl Fritsch is a cult jewellery icon and the maker of the most covetable rings in the world. Now residing in New Zealand, Fritsch uses gold, silver and precious stones to make pieces that seem to have been unearthed from some distant, romantic era… but the imaginary ravages of time and entropy have left these rings more fascinating, more compelling and more desirable than ever.
Collected with passion by fashion and art movers and shakers, and awarded the highest honours in contemporary jewellery, Fritsch’s work is also held in public collections worldwide, including our own NGV.
Presented as part of Melbourne Spring Fashion Week 2012.

EXPO ‘UNEXPECTED PLEASURES’ – NGV International, Melbourne (AU) – 20 Avril-26 Aout 2012

UNEXPECTED PLEASURES

The Art and Design of Contemporary Jewellery

A Design Museum, London touring exhibition
at NGV (National Gallery of Victoria)

unexpected-pleasures-0.jpg

Unexpected Pleasures looks at what we mean by jewellery from a number of different perspectives.  Taking as its starting point the radical experiments of the Contemporary Jewellery Movement that challenged a conventional understanding of the language of personal adornment, and looking instead at the essential meanings of jewellery, the exhibition brings together important work from around the world, and looks at it from the point of view of the wearer as well as the maker. Contemporary  Jewellery in this sense is at the intersection of art and design.

Curated by Dr. Susan Cohn for the Design Museum, London with exhibition design by Ab Rogers Design and graphics by Barnbrook.

« UNEXPECTED Pleasures, an exhibition of the world’s ugliest, loveliest, most intriguing contemporary jewellery, opened at the National Gallery of Victoria International yesterday.
»Everything here is designed to be worn, » said guest curator and jewellery designer Susan Cohn.
Visitors took that as a challenge, moving through 180 dimly lit curiosities by the world’s most radical designers, trying to imagine what it would be like to wear a necklace of glass and ceramic dildos. Or a tubular  »veil » collar like a pearly plastic version of Ned Kelly’s helmet. Or a cluster of rusted bolts and nails on a silver  »Screw Ring ».
»After procreation and survival, our next instinct as humans is adornment, » Cohn said when asked,  »Why? »
»Adornment is about attracting a mate, which in turn, is about procreation and survival. »
Some humans, however, obviously require more complex, intellectual adornments than others.  »Yes, some wearers will want something that speaks that way for them, » Cohn said. Among the exhibits was a vast choice of such expression, from the minimalist exquisitry of a grey sunray-pleated yoke, to a clump of small pale  »tumours », photographed bursting through a model’s frock. The latter was in a category of radical ideas.
NGV director Gerard Vaughan said the exhibition offered  »a fresh view of the many meanings associated with jewellery ».
The visiting director of London’s Design Museum, Deyan Sudjic, said it was the result of a  »long, drawn-out, cerebral process », and that is precisely how it felt.
Unexpected Pleasures: The Art and Design of Contemporary Jewellery, is a Design Museum, London, exhibition funded by the Joan and Peter Clemenger Trust.
It is free and runs until August 26, when it will travel to London. (Daily Life.com.au)

Art and design come together through its exploration of the radical experiments of contemporary jewelers who have pushed the boundaries. Navigate your way through the labyrinth of themes; Worn Out (celebrating the experience of wearing jewellery), Linking Links (looks at the way in which narratives are expressed through sub-themes and creative systems) and A Fine Line (offers insight into the origins of contemporary jewellery today) in an exhibition that is not to be missed.
