Mais de Katharina Dettar (MA 2016 at RCA, London, UK) qui vient de recevoir, avec quelques autres, le MARZEE GRADUATE PRIZE  2016

Et de son Installation « 2,1 grams » – « Awakening Awareness« 

Katharina Dettar explains : « 2,1 grams- Gold has been man’s most sought-after quest for hundreds of years & the price of gold continues to rise. But gold deposits are ever thinner, & this precious metal is being extracted from the earth at enormous environmental & human cost, often in some of the poorest corners of the world. This gold ring weighs 2,1 grams.
Based on the data & information provided by the Dolaucothi Gold Mines in Wales the average quantity of ore to get 2,1 grams of 24ct gold is of a is of about 140 kg of quartzite. This quartzite has an high amount of iron in it where the gold dust finds itself located. In order to get the ore you need to extract 1400 kg of shale rock, therefore being the final numbers 1540 kg of spoil for a 2,1 grams ring of gold.
To obtain a small amount of gold tons of rock are dug up & sprinkled with diluted cyanide, which separates the gold from the rock. Some of the largest mines move up to half million tons of earth a day, leaching the poison into rivers & lakes.
2,1 grams is a visual metaphor that illustrates the huge disparity between a gold ring & the amount of material needed to create it.

The Marzee International Graduate Show is an annual event and the highlight of our exhibition calendar. In organising this unique event, we hope to turn the spotlight on the fantastic work produced by jewellery graduates from all over the world.

 PROLONGATION OF A CIRCLE
This body of work was born in London during 2014 and 2015.
It is the first group of pieces created by jeweller Katharina Dettar and graphic and product designer María Izquierdo.
It is a fusion of simplicity and colour.
By removing points from the circumference of a circle it is no longer a circle.
The neck will bring back the natural idea of eternity of the circle.

PROLONGACIÓN DE UN CÍRCULO

Este conjunto de piezas nacieron entre 2014 y 2015 en Londres. Creadas por la joyera Katharina Dettar y la diseñadora gráfica y de producto María Izquierdo. 

Es una fusión de simplicidad y color. 

Eliminando puntos de la circuferencia de un círculo deja de ser un círculo.

El cuello traerá de vuelta la idea de eternidad natural del círculo.

The SCHMUCK is an international exhibition that has been taking place in Munich for more than 50 years. It combines works of established artists and promising newcomers in the area of contemporary jewellery design and is the meeting place for collectors, jewellery lovers and museum curators from Germany and abroad. Organized as a worldwide contest, the works are chosen by an internationally renowned curator each year, this time by Eva Eisler, professor at the Prague Academy of Arts, Architecture and Design (AAAD). “Presenting works at the SCHMUCK is an honor for any jewellery designer“, says Dieter Dohr, Management Board Chairman of the GHM Gesellschaft für Handwerksmessen mbH. That is also why this time, more than 600 gold smiths and jewellery designers from Germany and abroad applied for the special show. In spring 2015, contributions by 63 artists from 21 countries will finally be on display. This time, Karel Novak from the Czech Republic will be honored as the classic of modern art. Highlight of the SCHMUCK will be the awarding of the Herbert-Hofmann-prizes on Saturday, 14 March 2015 at 5 pm on stage in hall B1. On this day, a jury will select the three best works of the SCHMUCK. Each year, a number of accompanying events group around the special show at the Internationale Handwerksmesse in Munich galleries, museums and cultural institutes.

« The exhibition project Plateaus is the instant shot of a multiplicity, which linked to one another, is growing continuously. The links between the individual within the multiplicity go beyond each of the other individuals and the very moment, are inspired by the past, transgress borders and offer numerous connecting possibilities of building further plateaus – into all directions and forms.

At the moment four jewellery artist are connected in this project (Barbora Dzurakova, Patrícia Correia Domingues, Katharina Dettar, Edu Tarín). What they have in common are their academic years at the Hochschule für Edelstein und Schmuck of Idar-Oberstein (University of Trier). Here they have known each other and have worked together. Although they do belong to different academic years, in their pieces of jewelry one can recognize interconnection and mutual inspiration. This is their nexus, which is intensified and not only expressed by the heterogeneity of their origin, manner of approaching and individual shaping.«   Julia Wild

For the second consecutive year, JOYA increases the art jewellery offer to the public. That is why the jewels exhibitions’ route in the city of Barcelona has been expanded, so that it reaches out to more people.

The route will be made of 11 exhibitions and 1 reading.

To inaugurate the exhibitions cycle we have the artist Amira Jalet, which will be presenting her work « Sibú« , a collection inspired in the pre-Columbian art of Costa Rica, in the Galería Ring Ring*.
