EXPO ‘Mediterraneo’ – Museo di Storia Naturale del Mediterraneo, Livorno (IT) – 12-19 Avril 2011

 MEDITERRANEO

INTERNATIONAL EXPOSITION OF CONTEMPORARY JEWELRY

EXPO ‘IN DER SÜDSEE’ – Friends of Carlotta, Zürich (CH) – 31 Mars-25 Juin 2011

IN DER SÜDSEE  (The South Seas)
Jewellery award and fellowship prize 2011 : The South Seas – 31st March – 25th June 2011

EXPO 'IN DER SÜDSEE' - Friends of Carlotta, Zürich (CH) - 31 Mars-25 Juin 2011 dans Anna SILBERSTEIN (DE) suedsee1b

« As the red sun looked across the placid ocean through the tall, clean stems of the coconut trees, like a blooming whisky bloat through the bars of a city prison, I went and stood on the edge of the water on the flat rock pressed by Capt. Cook’s feet when the blow was dealt which took away his life… » Taken from “Letters from Hawaii” by Mark Twain

For centuries, the South Seas have inspired buccaneers, explorers and dreamers alike – now it is the jewellery designers turn. All the pieces of jewellery created for the South Seas topic and their accompanying stories will be virtually exhibited on our homepage (and on Facebook) and also presented in the elaborate exhibition documentation.
In November 2010, a pre-judging will take place by means of the sent in photos and texts. Thereby, the work of approximately 40-50 participants will be selected. These items will not only be presented virtually, but also physically, at our exhibition room “Trüffel” at Friends of Carlotta gallery.

In February 2011, an independent jury will select the best of the 40-50 works and award it the FoC jewellery award and fellowship prize 2011. As always, the audience prize will be awarded by the visitors of the exhibition. The works that were nominated for the virtual exhibition will also be on display in “Trüffel” at Friends of Carlotta. They will be shown on a screen as well as in the available exhibition documentation.

Klassiker der Moderne 2011 : Manfred Bischoff
In 2011, as in every year, there will be a retrospective of the works of one of the ‘classics of the Modern’. SCHMUCK 2011 will present the key works of Manfred Bischoff, a German goldsmith living in Italy who is regarded around the world as one of today´s leading contemporary jewellery designers. At the Internationale Handwerksmesse one of the many prizes he has received is the Bavarian State Prize (2005), an award which enjoys the very highest regard in the field of arts and crafts.

SCHMUCK the special show culminates in the presentation of the Herbert Hofmann Prize on 19 March 2011. In addition SCHMUCK 2011 is accompanied by a whole host of other events taking place in galleries, museums and arts institutes in Munich.

After the Internationale Handwerksmesse SCHMUCK goes on tour, this time, for the first time, also to France.
The French town which was given this honour is Cagnes-sur-Mer (Espace Solidor) in Provence. In recent years this small town has developed a reputation as a meeting place for statement jewellery designers. SCHMUCK first started to travel around the world in 2006, and has been seen in Australia (RMIT Gallery, Melbourne), Great Britain (Birmingham City University), Poland (National Art Gallery, Lódz), Italy (Oratorio di San Rocco, Padua) and the US (Museum of Arts and Design, New York).

Wendy Ramshaw und David Watkins © Artists

« In the mid 1960s Wendy Ramshaw and David Watkins ran a small firm called Optik Art Jewellery. They designed acrylic fashion jewellery inspired by Pop art paintings of the period. Later in 1967 they designed and sold paper jewellery all over the world. This was prior to a new revolution in jewelry design which was looming, throughout the 70s with non-precious materials and artistic ideas replacing material values. Ramshaw and Watkins were among the protagonists of the London scene. Ramshaw started out as an illustrator and textile designer. She has received numerous prestigious awards for her works, which include the Millennium Medal for Queen Elizabeth II. Her husband David Watkins was a jazz pianist, now a sculptor, and jewelry artist. Through his unconventional techniques and methods of working with materials he creates a unique style all of his own; from 1984 until 2006 he was Professor of Metalwork and Jewelry at the Royal College of Art in London. »

Katharina MOCH ‘borderline’ jewelry – between appeal & repulsion

Classé dans : COUP DE COEUR,Katharina MOCH (DE),plastiques — bijoucontemporain @ 22:59

« I create flamboyant, sculptural and wearable pieces that combine ambivalent aspects of appeal and repulsion.
Jewellery that attracts attention, pieces that catch the eye and demand self-confidence and conviction to wear,
thus challenging the boundaries of what constitutes jewellery. My work unsettles the borderline between beautiful
and ugly in order to tease the perception of the beholder and to evoke reactions. I find it exciting and thrilling to trigger curiosity and challenge viewers to engage and discover,
while simultaneously leaving space for individual interpretation. I believe that provoking this playful inquisitiveness
is of value to us because it stimulates and originates distinct conditions, which in turn allow for experiences that we
would not be exposed to otherwise.
The aesthetic qualities of my ambiguous jewellery are based on an organic form-vocabulary and the introduction of innovative
materials and techniques, which I combine and contrast with my traditional goldsmithing skills. An open approach and
material-based research, spontaneity and the dynamics that come from intuitive working processes enable me to develop
a range of elements, which are then combined to create the compositions of my vibrant work. » (Katharina Moch)

etc etc etc …..  :-)   un vrai BONHEUR je vous dis !! :-)

dommage ….
