Triple Parade exhibitions in Tianjin & Beijing Exhibition / 10 Nov 2016 - 17 Jan 2017 - Tianjin Shengxi Museum of Fine Arts & Gauguin Gallery Beijing

The main exhibition TRIPLE PARADE 2016 -  Dialogue Across You and Me to Them: Creator, Wearer, Viewer  – Central Traveling Exhibition Represented 110 jewellery designers & artists from 14 countries.

The Triple Parade 2016 international annual exhibition is a cultural exchange which is expanded between China and the rest of the world on a multitude of level, devoted to the hardcore awakening in jewellery design, with a very open and contemporary-oriented approach by focusing on the concept of dialoguing.

The pervious themes were: Triple Parade 2015 – Dialogue across Three Countries, Triple Parade 2014 – Dialogue across Three Generations. This year, the term Dialogue across You and Me to Them: Creator, Wearer, Viewer in our theme is vitally important marks the notion of social interaction. We believe that the significance and multiple capacities of the dialogue mark have not been truly recognized. Each of the three roles in a dialogue, which are briefly introduced in the plate sections devoted to them, addresses one perspective on how  » Dialogue » plays a progressive position in the contemporary jewellery design of our period. Jewellery examines how we define self, integration and segregation, the means used for communication – and how these issues are reflected in creative work.

» TRIPLE PARADE 2016 will open its door at 10th NOV in Tianjin in China, it embraced the aspirations in a great ambition, setting up an intensive program consisting of exhibitions, publication, workshops, forum, lecture, which included dialogues with international collaboration partners from Netherlands, United States, United Kingdom, China, Denmark, Spain. The exhibition represented an enormous challenge to everyone involved in purely quantitative terms: with over 260 works by more than a hundred designers and artists from 14 countries. 11 experts from 8 countries have been exclusively invited to be in Tianjin as speaker on the Design Forum. The publication consists of 7 groups of interviews, including 14 experts on board, giving perspectives from education, collecting, creating, curating, wearing, and dealing on contemporary jewellery design. I am confident that it will open up new perspectives on the giant, and I would like to invite all the visitors to discover the greatly relevant designs from a field so full of surprises, with such a future ahead of it. » Jie Sun (founder of Triple Parade)

Here is the new exhibition curated by the Précieux Passage team at la Maison du Bijou in the South of France : A trombone in a glass of water, contemporary jewelry and glass.

A trombone in a glass of water, this surrealist proverb by Paul Eluard recalls the importance of the unexpected.
Expect to be surprised !

Léa Mazy (FR) - Beneath the surface - 2016 Léa Mazy -  Beneath the surface -  2016 – Léa is a young French designer studying at Design Academy Eindhoven.  Léa ’s jewelry collection “Beneath the Surface” is the result of a research on materials around the notions of intimacy, preciousness, fragility, surprise, but most of all on the beauty lying underneath the surface. Combined, the individual story of each broches and rings creates a personal narration and landscape.

Mari Funaki was a unique and passionate advocate for contemporary jewellery in Australia, both through her own remarkable practice and her establishment and directorship of Gallery Funaki.
This Award aims to celebrate Mari’s legacy by rewarding the skills and vision of jewellers both here and overseas and by providing a platform for outstanding new work to be shown here in Australia. A panel of three judges will award prizes in both established and emerging categories, with total prize money valued at AUD$11,000.

EXPO ‘Katja Prins & Luzia Vogt’ – Galerie Noel Guyomarc’h, Montreal (CA) – 23 Avril-16 Mai 2015

Galerie Noel Guyomarc’h‎ : Exposition / Exhibition : Katja Prins & Luzia Vogt

Exhibition opening: Thursday, April 23, 5-8 p.m /
Vernissage de l’exposition : Jeudi 23 avril, 17h-20h

Galerie Noel Guyomarc'h‎Exposition / Exhibition : Katja Prins & Luzia Vogt

Katja Prins  Uncanny Incarnations
Luzia Vogt  Zucker
Montreal, April 12, 2015 – For the very first time, Galerie Noel Guyomarc’h presents two exhibitions simultaneously, from April 23 to May 16, 2015. The two invited artists, Katja Prins, of the Netherlands, and Luzia Vogt, of Switzerland, show their respective works, two worlds meeting through reflection and social commentary.
Uncanny Incarnations by Katja Prins brings together works produced between 2002 and 2015, providing both a portrait and history of her artistic intentions. The central theme of her collections — the relationship between the body and the mechanical objects produced by medical technology and by industry — takes form in a number of ways, combining Prins’ mechanical and tubular constructions in silver with elements such as ceramics, reconstituted stones and synthetic materials. Her most recent work examines surgery that repairs or remodels the body. Prins trained as a metalsmith at the Vakschool, in Schoonhaven, and then attended the Gerrit Rietveld Academy, in Amsterdam, graduating in 1997. Her work has been shown in many international solo and group shows, and is also included in a number of prestigious private and museum collections.
An ingredient that we use on a daily basis, a source of pleasure and energy as well as a cause of disease, sugar is the subject Luzia Vogt explores in Zucker, her latest collection. Once a luxury good and also used as a medicine, sugar has been at the root of many conflicts between peoples and cultures. This controversial substance is omnipresent in our lives and available everywhere. Using wood and synthetic materials, Vogt created brooches and earrings that resemble candy. Bracelets made using selective laser sintering, a 3D printing technology, appear to be composed of sugar crystals. Sugar bowls were first sculpted from sugar beets, and were then transformed in bone china and Carrara marble, as the artist explored the ambiguous nature of this substance. Initially trained as a jeweller, Vogt developed her conceptual approach to jewellery at the University of Pforzheim’s School of Design, in Germany. An artist with the gallery since 2001, she has taken part in a number of international exhibitions, such as A Bit of Clay on the Skin, which was conceived of by Monika Brugger and presented in a number of museums throughout Europe, Asia, and North America.
The works by these two artists, which are being shown at Galerie Noel Guyomarc’h, are a reflection of their current explorations.
Katja Prins will attend the opening, which will take place April 23, from 5 to 8 p.m.
She wishes to express her thanks to the Creative Industries Fund NL.

The SCHMUCK is an international exhibition that has been taking place in Munich for more than 50 years. It combines works of established artists and promising newcomers in the area of contemporary jewellery design and is the meeting place for collectors, jewellery lovers and museum curators from Germany and abroad. Organized as a worldwide contest, the works are chosen by an internationally renowned curator each year, this time by Eva Eisler, professor at the Prague Academy of Arts, Architecture and Design (AAAD). “Presenting works at the SCHMUCK is an honor for any jewellery designer“, says Dieter Dohr, Management Board Chairman of the GHM Gesellschaft für Handwerksmessen mbH. That is also why this time, more than 600 gold smiths and jewellery designers from Germany and abroad applied for the special show. In spring 2015, contributions by 63 artists from 21 countries will finally be on display. This time, Karel Novak from the Czech Republic will be honored as the classic of modern art. Highlight of the SCHMUCK will be the awarding of the Herbert-Hofmann-prizes on Saturday, 14 March 2015 at 5 pm on stage in hall B1. On this day, a jury will select the three best works of the SCHMUCK. Each year, a number of accompanying events group around the special show at the Internationale Handwerksmesse in Munich galleries, museums and cultural institutes.

« For centuries artists have tried to define the human form by using circles, squares, planes and lines. Da Vinci’s Vetruvius Man or Rietveld’s chairs are known the world over. But the body defies such abstractions, it rather should be looked at as an alternating landscape with sloping transitions and undulating contours determined by the muscles. It is only when a designer explicitly intends to follow or support the body, that other shapes emerge. Clothes or corsets are clear examples, as are the wooden leg brace and fiberglass armchair shell designed by the Eames. It is at such occasions that Katja Prins starts to pay attention: when objects aren’t just beautiful, but also testify to exploration, functionality and adventure.
To prepare for her new collection of jewellery Prins looked for ways to translate visual associations connected with the human body to a smaller size. Using an artificial material produced for medical purposes, she managed to develop three dimentional shapes that are expressive, without becoming to obvious. They were supplemented with abstract elements, hammered from brass and subsequently polished and chomium-plated.
Prins isn’t only fascinated by shapes related to the human frame, but also by the fact that nowadays man can actually intervene in the body. And so she incorporated fragments of medical instruments into her new work. In this way she made jewellery pieces that celebrate an often neglected beauty of the body, in relation with the efforts people make for its perpetuation.
Does Prins jewellery result in merely sweeted temptations? Confronted with the work, most people initially are reserved: the cool, shiny chomium and a reminder of doctors implements create a distance. Yet, instead of suspicion, a different reaction would be more appropiate: astonishment about ourselves and our many, sometimes puzzling accomplishments.  » (Ward Schrijver, art historian and architect, Amsterdam, NL)

The Beauty Chase – Parcours esthétiques du bijou contemporain.

« `Baroque-water-pearls´ got their name, next to other aspects, because of their irregular outer shape. And just because of this special shape, they are sometimes also categorist as `scrap water pearls´. They are not first choice, their shapes don’t fit into special norms and conceptions, they are not perfect round with a smooth straight surface and their luster is broken due to their vivid appearances.
The image, which came up into my mind was to hide every visible detail because they do not fulfill certain expectations. I thought to put them into textile in a way that you only can feel them. It is then your fantasy, which gives the pearls their beauty without seeing them ever.
But nevertheless pearls are always beautiful just because of their unique shapes, their special colors, their sizes and their luster. And every pearl is individual because of this. It is a creation of nature and this beauty is worth to be shown, unless different expectations.
To emphasize this idea, I decided to not hide them.
It seemed to be much more interesting to place them into transparent textile, instead of hides them totally inside an opaque material. Now it is possible to see a bit of their shapes, to feel the weight, to hear the sound when the pearls touch each other and to move them like you want.
The design, which was the result of this idea, is a square tube.
It should be as minimal as possible to give all attention to the pearls inside. The textile I used for this tube/bag is black organza silk. Depending on where the pearls are, the form of the bag will be different and is made by the movement of the pearls. » Karin Seufert
