Klassiker der Schmuck 2012
Jens Rüdiger Lorenzen, Deutschland

This year there will be a retrospective exhibition of the work of a « Modern Classic » designer. In 2012 the chosen designer is the German goldsmith Jens Rüdiger Lorenzen. Together with Francesco Pavan, Lorenzen was the first goldsmith to be awarded the Herbert Hofmann Prize, back in 1973. The award presentation ceremony, which this year is being held on Saturday, 17 March 2012, is always one of the highlights at SCHMUCK. Lorenzen, who was born in 1942 in Hagen, Westphalia, taught at the « Staatliche Zeichenakadamie » in Hanau from 1974 to 1985, while also acting as a visiting lecturer at the « Hochschule für Gestaltung » in Pforzheim, at which college he then, in 1985, took up an appointment as a professor. He continued to teach there in the jewellery design department until retiring in 2008.

“Schmuck-Show 2012” is a jewellery presentation with professional models, set in an exceptional light and sound design. With the cooperation of several artists who exhibit their works at different places in Munich during these ‘Jewellery Days’, on the evening before the start of the trade fair jewellery is being presented directly on the body. The jewellery stirs emotions and prompts diverse conversations. At the bar, artists, jewellery lovers and laymen meet; there is room for an animated exchange. The project has been initiated by Olga Zobel Biro

TOKYO : HIKO Mizuno College of Jewelry – Graduation Works Exhibition – Spiral Garden Aoyama, Tokyo (JP) 15-24 Fevr. 2011

HIKO Mizuno College of Jewelry Graduation Works Exhibition

Found in 1966, Hiko Mizuno College of Jewelry is the only one Jewelry school in Tokyo authorized by the school education law. Hiko Mizuno has taken a form of a non-profitable organization, which is officially authorized by the Tokyo Metropolitan Government under the Law of Education. This authorization has enabled the school to receive a permit from the Ministry of Health, Labor and Welfare to provide licensed careers advice and VISA (2-year) arrangement for the overseas students.
Hiko Mizuno not only enjoys constant international visitors in jewelry and art all year around, but also invites overseas jewelry artists every year to hold summer workshops and slide lectures. The school has established long-close ties with overseas universities by exchanging students and holding joint exhibitions. Such international events are held throughout the year at Hiko Mizuno. We have a partnership with 58 schools in 16 countries all over the world. Hiko Mizuno has more than 160 students who have come from abroad.
There are four departments, Jewelry, Watch, Shoes and Bags. Each department has several courses in the program of 2–4 years.

« In the Spice Series neckpieces, I work with whole spices, including cardamom pods, fennel seeds, and saffron. I am constantly surprised and inspired by the completeness and innate elegance of these small natural forms and try to highlight them effortlessly with the clean lines of silver and glass. These pieces blur the lines between studio, kitchen, and laboratory.  » (Sarah Hood)

Founded in 1851, The Bavarian Crafts Council (Bayerischer Kunstgewerbe-Verein or BKV) looks back on more than 150 years of history. Today, it is a professional association for the promotion of contemporary crafts with around 400 members. Located in the centre of Munich, BKV maintains a forum for ARTS + CRAFTS, which consists of the “Gallery for Applied Arts” (Galerie für Angewandte Kunst) and a spacious shop with a wide range of contemporary works of art. The Bavarian Crafts Council also participates in a number of international fairs in Germany and abroad.

BKV-Prize 2010 for Young Applied Arts
One of the main objectives of the BKV is to promote the younger generation of artists, i.e. to support the professional and artistic development of young artisans financially through publications and by means of expert assistance. The BKV-Prize was therefore created in 2006 and is awarded once a year.
