« Lidia Puica: ‘I like to have no limits in what I do’« 

In 2009 Lidia Puica graduated from the Univestity of Decorative Arts and Design in Iasi (Romania) with specialization in Environmental Design, then she completed a Master at the University of Art and Design in Cluj-Napoca (Romania), exploring the contemporary jewelry. After graduation in 2011, she was devoted to jewelry made of unconventional meterials, especially those crocheted. Lidia creates statement pieces with organic inspiration using free technique in crochet exploring shapes and volumes. In this way, the jewelry gets the value of an art object, being associated with some crocheted sculptures.

Oui, le volume est clé dans mes créations. Leur volume donne à mes pièces l’aspect de sculptures à porter. Leur taille n’est pas trop imposante, j’essaye de les rendre facile à porter. « I find it a wonderful thing to use traditional techniques or ‘grandmother hobbies’ to materialize new ideas. It seems the trend for handmade products is global, and Romania is no exception. In Cluj, I have made many friends who are passionate about crafting and managed to make beautiful collaborations with some of them. I have noticed that in Transylvania, the focus is on traditional techniques and materials, and that people are quite open to crafting. »

Autor 11 - Contemporary Jewelry Fair

As a biannual event, the fair strives to promote contemporary talents within the jewelry design arena by creating a meaningful environment and maintaining a demanding selection process.

Most awards ever. Relevant and influential, the awards are here to confirm that the jelwery community, as well as Autor, are heading in the right direction :
* Autor Awesome Award (AAA) is at its third edition: an intensive course with Alchimia school, of Florence, will be awarded to one designer.
* The MNAC award: one piece, chosen by the curators of the museum, will be chosen for the permanent collection in MNAC – a huge step forward for the artist who will have the honor of being elected.
* a jewelry making course will be awarded to one up-and-coming designer by the Bucharest-based jewelry school Assamblage
* LAO Grand Prix – Le Arti Orafe, reputed jewelry school of Florence, will award a scholarship to one designer. Thereupon, the student will only pay for half of the tuition required for one year of study.
* The Elle award: “the best-selling fashion magazine in the world” will choose a designer they want to write a feature about in their July 2014 issue.
* Joya Award – one designer will get to participate in Spain’s most important contemporary jewelry event, Joya Barcelona

Spring brings along a nouvelle vague of contemporary jewellery designers at AUTOR 9. During the weekend of the 20th and 21st April, the new entry designers are joining our faithful friends from previous editions at Sala Dalles. This spring edition forwards the new collection of the year 2013, created by contemporary jewellery authors.

Clarisse Bruynbroeck (necklace) represents Belgium at Autor 9. In the statement of her collection, she confessed that her original language is jewellery, as it represents the perfect tool of expressing her emotions. What is more, the materials she works with can change during wearing, so the jewel and the body can make a story of their own.

Neva Balnikova is from Bulgaria as well and likes telling stories through her jewellery, usually being inspired by her surrounding cultural space. She uses objects from everyday life or strange human beliefs as a support for her jewellery, experimenting with different materials, searching the best way of domesticating them into body adornments.

Cornelia Brustureanu presents us the collection « Frozen Garden », which has its concept based on the image of a garden waiting for a sun beam to help it reborn after the long winter. For instance, the ring below is waiting for spring to take off the leather jacket which brought him shelter du ring wintertime.

Cristina Barsony presents us her first necklace from the collection Memories. The material she uses is paperporcelain, which has cellulose as its compound, which makes the jewellery more viable and wearable, no matter what the conditions are. Afterwards, all the elements are manually moulded out of the porcelain paste, resulting in this piece that reminds us of corals.

AUTOR is an open and active platform for contemporary jewelry designers in Romania. The main event is the biannual Fair for Contemporary Jewelry AUTOR.
