Preziosa Young 2015 selection

First selection of 24 artists – Among them, 6-8 artists will be choose to participate to the Preziosa. Contemporary Jewellery Exhibition

Preziosa Young 2015
PREZIOSA YOUNG 2015.
The first selection was made!! We received over 120 entries, and among these participants we have selected 24 artists:
Lisa BjörkeBifei Cao — Chae Sekang — Yu Fang Chi Bartosz Maria ChmielewskiMarion Delarue — Duan Yanli — Annie GobelDaniela Hedman — Holland Houdek — Jhang Hao-Han – Lauren Kalman — Charlotte Kreuter — Tithi KutchamuchLee Seoyeon — Vicky Lew — Bruno Micolano — Luigi Piantanida — Sang Deok Han — Jie SunMichal Taharlev — Yen-Yu Tseng — Youmi KimSangji Yun.

Among this group we will choose the artists (6-8) that will participate in the exhibition in Florence, and will be included in the catalogue.

PREZIOSA is a cultural project designed and co-ordinated by “Le Arti Orafe”, since 1985 the most prestigious contemporary jewellery school in Italy.
The project, launched in 2005, has become one of the most important European events devoted to contemporary jewellery.
The conceptual quality, the presence of artists of international fame, the prestigious set-up, the elegant catalogues and the original formula that comprises the organisation of conferences with the artists taking part, make “Preziosa” an appointment that lovers of contemporary jewellery cannot afford to miss.
A country of exquisite jewellery traditions, Italy has no museum devoted to jewellery, and temporary exhibitions have always been rare.
The attention devoted by the communication media and the cultural institutions to initiatives devoted to this art form has – apart from a few shining exceptions – always been limited, while great interest has always been expressed by lovers of contemporary art.
Through the organisation of events such as PREZIOSA, the school wishes to help to fill a gap the discrepancy of which is more or less consciously acknowledged.
Since 2008, a « parallel » exibition for young artists is organized: PREZIOSA Young is already an international reference for new artists and goldsmiths

Exhibition
The PY exhibition will take place in conjunction with the international event PREZIOSA 2015, in Florence, in the prestigious Marino Marini Contemporary Museum of Art. The organizers could also plan other exhibitions along the year: the selected artists are committed to deliver their work to all the scheduled events. Each of the selected winners must present 5 to 10 pieces for the exhibition. These pieces must be the same (or similar) to those submitted for the selection

EXPO ‘Hardware Artware’ – Atta Gallery, Bangkok (Thailand) – 2 mai-2 juin 2013

Hardware Artware

Hardware Artware-

“Little fragments, links and colors which are connected to each other points towards one direction. Their reason is not always visible at first sight, but by using them and by taking a deeper look under their surfaces, they open up another world…a world full of new information that connects people together.
Hardware – Artware is an intensive and compact connection full of tension.”
The group of 5 jewelers started to work together one and a half years ago in search for alternative ways of display for contemporary jewelry. Their aim is to display their jewelry pieces in new and unexpected ways.

Schmuck 2013 – EXPO ‘(ig)noble’ – Schwedische kirche, Munich (DE) – 7-10 Mars 2013

during Schmuck 2013 :  exhibition « (ig)noble » will be presented

“Of ignoble material I create something noble”

You are cordially invited to the opening on Thursday March 7th from 5 to 9 pm

during Schmuck 2013 : exhibition "(ig)nobel " will be presented - www.ignoble.wix.com/2013 mail: karin@karin-roy.se sanna@svede.se Location: Schwedische kirche Schwanthalerstraße 60, 80336 Munich Entrance from the inner court yard, second floor Participating artists: Karin Roy Andersson, Lisa Björke, Hanna Liljenberg, Pernilla Persson, Sanna Svedestedt

Participating artists:  Karin Roy AnderssonLisa BjörkeHanna LiljenbergPernilla PerssonSanna Svedestedt

As jewellery artists, our materials are our treasures. At the same time the materials we use are often considered non-precious by most people. We transform, investigate and push the limits of what the material can offer. By adding ideas, craftsmanship and time we can bring its hidden nobility to the surface.
In this group show Karin Roy Andersson, Lisa Björke, Pernilla Persson, Hanna Liljenberg and Sanna Svedestedt want to discuss how applied art is looked at and valued. “We want to raise the question of how we price our work, who our wearers are and how our jewellery is valued by the spectators”.
The exhibition (ig)nobel will be presented during Schmuck 2013.
This is how we do it:
During (ig)nobel we will present jewellery at four different price levels. The prices are calculated based on how much time we have spent on making the pieces and how exclusive they are. A higher price gives you a one of a kind jewellery piece and in the lower price range there are multiples of similar objects. This way we hope to make all of our visitors feel included as there will be something suitable for collectors of all all sizes.
Price levels
1 – One exclusive piece; 2000€
2 – Two one of a kind pieces; 600€
3 – Six pieces, similar but with some variations; 200€
4 – Unnumbered edition of multiples; 35€

The right price at the right place – interview by Sanna Svedestedt & Karin Roy Andersson on klimt02/blogs
« …. Visiting Schmuck for the first time can be almost overwhelming. We read this confession in a blog after the events:
“Still recovering from the shock and awe of contemporary international jewellery, totally mind blowing. Not only in the works, but the presentation of them. Problem is, the market is so flooded by these amazing pieces that they have become the norm – each competing with the thousands of others for precedence and attention. Like horror films, nerve ending eventually become numb to the sensation. The use of non-traditional materials does not seem to be an issue for these buyers or makers; the cheapest piece that I saw was priced at three hundred euros and it was made of treated leather.”

The ring mentioned by the jewellery student and blogger Melanie Archer was one of Sanna’s pieces. 300€ is not a “cheap” piece of jewellery and most of the students visiting our latest exhibitions would not even consider buying something in that price range. How does that effect the way they experience the pieces? How do we set the price and who do we expect to wear our work?
For ignoble we decided for a hands on approach. We set up some rules for ourselves: all artist will make jewellery with four different price tags. Calculated on a fixed hour fee of 50 euros/hour* we have made pieces at the following levels
2000 € – One exclusive piece,
600 € – Two one of a kind pieces
200 € – Six pieces, similar but with some variations
35 € – Unnumbered edition of multiples
A higher price gives you a one of a kind jewellery piece and in the lower price range there are multiples of similar objects. Our main purpose is to make as many of (ig)noble’s visitors as possible, feel as they are our target – as if we built this exhibition for them.
Who is a collector nowadays? We hope that you will come an visit us for a golden opportunity to fill some holes in your jewellery box.

* For a Swedish artist, 50 € /hour equals about 25 € /hour after taxes and social charges (VAT not included).
KRO/KIF** recommends Swedish self employed artists to invoice 83 €/hour for short term production, project based work and artistic consulting. As a monthly salary they also recommend 4842 € before tax and social charges (VAT not included). That can be translated into 30 € / hour before taxes. For this experiment we decided to level these sums to 50 € / hour. We would be very interested to hear your thoughts on the matter.
** KRO/KIF is the Swedish Artists’ National Association and The Association of Swedish Craftsmen and Industrial Designers. »

Jewelry in a New Iron Age by 60 International Artists

Velvet da Vinci San Francisco exhibition
March 1 – April 14, 2013
Artists’ reception Friday, March 1, 2013 from 6 to 8 p.m.

FERROUS, an exhibition of jewelry using iron, steel, and steel alloys. Although the use of iron dates back more than two thousand years, this humble material is more commonly used for agriculture and industrial purposes than adornment. A significant exception is the Berlin Iron Jewelry of the early 19th century. The Prussian Royal family funded the uprising against Napoleon by encouraging wealthy citizens to exchange their precious gold and silver for intricately fabricated iron jewelry
.Intricacy is just one aspect the 60 artists of FERROUS explore with this versatile material. Known for its strength and lightness, the steel and iron jewelry of FERROUS is both rusty and shiny, sheet and wire, bejeweled and modest. The exhibition will take place simultaneously at Velvet da Vinci Gallery in San Francisco and as a virtual exhibition at crafthaus online. In May FERROUS will travel to 18Karat Gallery in Toronto, Canada as part of The Society of North American Goldsmith’s annual conference.

Klassiker der Schmuck 2012
Jens Rüdiger Lorenzen, Deutschland

This year there will be a retrospective exhibition of the work of a « Modern Classic » designer. In 2012 the chosen designer is the German goldsmith Jens Rüdiger Lorenzen. Together with Francesco Pavan, Lorenzen was the first goldsmith to be awarded the Herbert Hofmann Prize, back in 1973. The award presentation ceremony, which this year is being held on Saturday, 17 March 2012, is always one of the highlights at SCHMUCK. Lorenzen, who was born in 1942 in Hagen, Westphalia, taught at the « Staatliche Zeichenakadamie » in Hanau from 1974 to 1985, while also acting as a visiting lecturer at the « Hochschule für Gestaltung » in Pforzheim, at which college he then, in 1985, took up an appointment as a professor. He continued to teach there in the jewellery design department until retiring in 2008.

“Schmuck-Show 2012” is a jewellery presentation with professional models, set in an exceptional light and sound design. With the cooperation of several artists who exhibit their works at different places in Munich during these ‘Jewellery Days’, on the evening before the start of the trade fair jewellery is being presented directly on the body. The jewellery stirs emotions and prompts diverse conversations. At the bar, artists, jewellery lovers and laymen meet; there is room for an animated exchange. The project has been initiated by Olga Zobel Biro

« It is sad when a mother has to speak the words that condemn her own son. I can’t allow them to think I would commit murder. Put him away now as I should have years ago. He was always bad and in the end he intended to tell them I killed those girls and that man, as if I could do anything but just sit and stare like one of his stuffed birds. They know I can’t move a finger and I want to just sit here and be quiet just in case they suspect me. They’re probably watching me. Well, let them. Let them see what kind of a person I am. I’m not even going to swat that fly. I hope they are watching… they’ll see. They’ll see and they’ll know, and they’ll say, « Why, she wouldn’t even harm a fly…«

B-SIDE Festival – 2nd Edition – Amsterdam – 3-6 Nov. 2011

B-side DownTown Art Jewellery Festival:
An energetic, self-created festival for jewellery artists. It brings together a series of jewellery exhibitions and performances on different locations throughout the city of Amsterdam.

B-side DownTownArtJewellery Festival is an energetic, self-created festival for jewellery artists. The 2nd edition takes place from the 3rd until the 6th of November 2011 and brings together a series of jewellery exhibitions and performances in the city of Amsterdam. This event is initiated by min-association; Maaike Ebbinge – Iris Tsante – Noémie Doge,

who graduated from Amsterdam’s Gerrit Rietveld Academy in 2007 and 2008.
B-side gives artists the opportunity to explore new ways of showing their jewellery to the world. Each artist is encouraged to take responsibility for his of her own part in a bigger chain or route.
B-side emphasises the festive side of a festival and celebrate the art of jewellery. The aim of the festival is to show different ways of presenting and thinking about art jewellery through exhibitions and performances. It allows exploration of spaces that aren’t usually used for exhibition purposes, for example parks, ateliers, bicycles, empty buildings, a living room, a café or the back of a car.
B-side happens simultaneously with other inspiring jewellery events in Amsterdam.
B-side shows designs that go very much beyond mass-produced jewellery. It shows an artistic way of presenting and dealing with jewellery. The value of this jewellery is not defined by precious metals, but by their visual force and strong concept.
There are many jewellery artists working in Amsterdam. Three of the four most renowned Dutch jewellery galleries are based here, and the jewellery department of the Rietveld Academy is well-k

nown for its active students and teachers. We are very happy to be able to celebrate Amsterdam’s special connection to jewellery with this special platform for art jewellery.
B-side, another side of jewellery.

B-side DownTownArtJewellery Festival is organised by: min-association.com (Maaike Ebbinge, Iris Tsante & Noémie Doge)

Where the heart is

”Strong wind in the face, the sea roaring loudly, lots of curious materials hidden in the sand, my thoughts explore the freedom of space. This is where the heart is, this is where my jewellery pieces are born.” M.E.

“I like working intensively with materials. When the materials start “speaking” and taking their own way, that is where their heart is.” I.T.

“I search for hidden stories by dismantling forgotten relics; I reinvent them picking up the pieces; I’m a treasure hunter, ferreting where their heart is. ” N.D.

Bracelets bulle de Galatée Pestre – Bagues cadavre exquis de Laurence Verdier – Bague menu d’Aude Medori

Jewellery from Words
The girls from GLA love to play with words, having each their own process in jewellery making, which in their hands, becomes both profound and funny. Galatée Pestre tells the importance of jewellery with signs, while Laurence Verdier explores sensuality, and  Aude Medori shows  commitment to adornment.

« Is there a borderline between reality and fantasy? Can we tell the difference?
Is it straight or floating, vague or sharp?
What is real and what is not? Do we really need to know?
….
The pieces can be seen as a micro cosmos on the border. They represent a portal to either of the two worlds – the real or the fantasy world. Only if I dare cross the border and drop the control, I can start a travel within the mind to a land where reality and dream blend in with each other and the order of things is subverted and unpredictable.
Enjoy your journey!
