« Alchimiajewellery school presents ‘Tastes just like chicken….’ the Quaternitas exhibition 2011, curated by Ruudt Peters.
Michelle Kraemer and Maru Lopez present the final results after a yearlong development under the guidance of their tutor and curator. The work of both started with an exploration of gender, identity, sex, skin, touch, within the borders generated around those concepts by the individual and society.
The artists have worked in a close dialogue and with corresponding materials like fabric, latex, nylon and foam, but the resulting jewellery pieces show clearly their difference in cultural identity and personal interest.
Set up in the beautiful entrance hall of Alchimia, the exhibition is articulated in two installations referring to the display of ‘organic material’ , one related to commerce (the butcher) the other to curiosity and science (the natural history museum).«

Maria PHILLIPS – the relationship between the NATURAL & the MAN MADE

Classé dans : Gal. Velvet da Vinci (US),Maria PHILLIPS (US),organics,recup' / recycled,USA — bijoucontemporain @ 17:21

« My obsession with time and the aging process has been a recurring theme in my work for the past decade. This preocupation has fueled my interest in non-traditional processes and materials in order to further examine the relationship between the natural and the man made. I incorporate non-precious metals with natural and found objects as well as elements based on industrial and anatomical forms. Manipulation and subversion of these materials results in forms saturated with tension. Repetition of elements produces mass, an outcome that can be both seductive and chaotic. Fabrication and electroforming permit the cultivation of new forms, while various surface enhancements influence the concepts of the work. Continual investigation of new processes and mediums are what compel, stimulate and challenge my creative process. » (exhibition at Velvet da Vinci Gallery)
