Klassiker der Schmuck 2012
Jens Rüdiger Lorenzen, Deutschland

This year there will be a retrospective exhibition of the work of a « Modern Classic » designer. In 2012 the chosen designer is the German goldsmith Jens Rüdiger Lorenzen. Together with Francesco Pavan, Lorenzen was the first goldsmith to be awarded the Herbert Hofmann Prize, back in 1973. The award presentation ceremony, which this year is being held on Saturday, 17 March 2012, is always one of the highlights at SCHMUCK. Lorenzen, who was born in 1942 in Hagen, Westphalia, taught at the « Staatliche Zeichenakadamie » in Hanau from 1974 to 1985, while also acting as a visiting lecturer at the « Hochschule für Gestaltung » in Pforzheim, at which college he then, in 1985, took up an appointment as a professor. He continued to teach there in the jewellery design department until retiring in 2008.

Each year since 2006 the exhibition has been hosted in a range of countries, among them Australia (RMIT Gallery, Melbourne), Great Britain (Birmingham City University), Poland (Municipal Art Gallery, Lódz), Italy (Oratorio di San Rocco, Padua), the US (Museum of Arts and Design, New York) and the French town of Cagnes-sur-Mer (Espace Solidor).

“Schmuck-Show 2012” is a jewellery presentation with professional models, set in an exceptional light and sound design. With the cooperation of several artists who exhibit their works at different places in Munich during these ‘Jewellery Days’, on the evening before the start of the trade fair jewellery is being presented directly on the body. The jewellery stirs emotions and prompts diverse conversations. At the bar, artists, jewellery lovers and laymen meet; there is room for an animated exchange. The project has been initiated by Olga Zobel Biro

EXPO ‘Octavia Cook: Coup de grâce’ – Galerie Rob Koudijs, Amsterdam (NL) – 15 Janv.-26 Fevr. 2011

 Octavia Cook: Coup de grâce

http://www.preziosamagazine.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/01/GRK-kaart-Octavia-Off-with-her-head-520x366.jpg

« Brand names are looming increasingly large in everyday life. Bags, shoes, clothes: all are linked to a brand which in its turn serves as a code. To test the role of jewellery in this power game the New-Zealand artist Octavia COOK transformed her production line into an imaginary, multinational, luxury brand called Cook & Co (with Tiffany & Co at the back of her mind).
From this concept an remarkable collection of jewellery has been created over the last five years, every item of course bearing a logo and other forms of corroborating testimonial. The pieces, for the most part executed in synthetic materials, denote traditional values like power (HRH Elizabeth II), history (captain James Cook) and vanitas symbolism. As far as the design is concerned the archetypal cameo brooch has often been used as a basis. The large folder that will appear in conjunction with the exhibition documents the many facets of the entire Cook & Co-dynasty range.
In the meantime the Cook & Co bubble is about to burst: this original idea has not been able to weather the storm of other contemporary phenomena like terrorism. Cook & Co is therefore making a new start with an experimental line: there are rumoura about explosions, fires and attacks. Octavia Cook’s jewellery challenging for the mind as well as providing a feast for the eyes..  » - Ward Schrijver (© Galerie Rob Koudijs)

The Infinite Fold
- Zoe Veness
Veness’s jewellery combines elements of pattern, overlay and repetition to achieve rhythm and harmony in her carefully balanced forms and compositions. Cook & Co; Antiquities for the Future – Octavia Cook
Cook and Co was self consciously established in 2003 as a fictitious and irreverent family jewellery company for the aggrandisement of Cook and her ideas. This it has proven to be, and it has become what is more, a valuable tool by which she mines the themes of beauty, decay, providence and value within contemporary jewellery practice.

Informing Facets-
Regine Schwarzer – new jewellery
Embracing the unpredictable and the unexpected Schwarzer uses traditional faceting of gem stones to subvert expectations by selecting stones with impurities.
