Ozay Emert solo exhibition at Galleri Sintra, Göteborg

Özay Emert draws inspiration from her Turkish cultural heritage. As a starting point she focused on objects used by Sufi dervishes during their meditation. Sufism is a mystical movement that emerged from Islam seeking divine love.
« I have chosen the meditation tools because of their aesthetic value. I think our preoccupation with material rather than spiritual things has made us neglect to appreciate the beauty of religion. »

Bijoux empaquetés, rebrodés … bien ficelés ma foi ! – embroidered jewelry

On peut dire que je me suis laissée embobiner …

j’aime particulièrement ces « petits bouts de métal » dessinés, percés, délicatement rebrodés, alliant le dur et le tendre, le moderne et le « vieillot, dans une technique patiente et méticuleuse  ….

Ici les techniques textiles utilisées sont essentiellement la broderie, mais également le crochet

EXPO ‘Özay Emert : Jewellery Artist of the Month’ – Gallery NORSU, Helsinki (Finland) 1-30 Avr. 2010

Özay Emert is a very talented jewelry artist from Turkey. In 2008 she got her MFA degree at HDK (School of Design and Crafts) in Gothenburg. In this project, she has drawn inspiration from her Turkish cultural heritage. The collection of jewelery called Either seem as you are or be as you seem is inspired by objects used by Sufi Dervish for head resting during their pray, in 13 century.
