ΠΡΟΣΚΛΗΣΗ ΕΚΘΕΣΗΣ -  When art meets the body …

Five different artists, five different stories. They meet here on the occasion of the annual conference of the Union Educational Art Courses to take you, each one, in its own paths. Feelings and thoughts are transformed into jewelry and valuable objects. Hand made from various materials, valuable or not. Using traditional and modern techniques. Present their work in order to start a dialogue.

Poly Nikolopoulou (Alchimia 2005-2007) : « My work is a way of communicate with the people and also with myself …
When I am making a piece, is very important the process, the feelings that I am experimenting at the moment and all the energy that those are reflecting in each object; the mistake of the moment, is something that I enjoy and I support from my work. I like the idea of making something that when is finished can give me different images, ideas, forms and the complete definition of my concept.
I prefer to use hard materials like silver, playing with the hammer and with the fire obtaining as an outcome shapes and colors that make them alive… sometimes in an abstract way or another in figurative. »

« From Darkness to Light »

The deeply symbolic work of the philhellene artist Stoian Donev, “Light and Darkness” is presented for the first time at Eleni Marneri galerie . The artist brilliantly utilizes the two contradictory meanings with the purpose to signify that with poetry, “light can dominate darkness”. Prompted by Donev’s work, 54 talented greek and international philhellene artists in the area of contemporary jewellery, painting and design get inspired and express their personal perception of “light conquering darkness”.

The exhibition begins on Thursday , May 24th, 2012 at 20:00 and will take place in 4 parts.

Contemporary jewelry works of 9 female artists from 4 countries.

The contemporary jewellery association “Orizzonti”, founders Meiri Ishida, Karin Kato and Yuki Sumiya, has curated the exhibition “Current”  :

 

An exhibition of jewelry created by 9 female artists  –Meiri Ishida, Yuki Sumiya, Yoko Shimizu, Karin Kato, Yoriko Mitsuhashi, Elisa Deval, Maria Costanza Ochoa, Poly Nikolopoulou, Rallou Katsari–  from 4 different countries –Japan, Italy, Colombia, Greece– all but one of them met while attending Alchimia School of Contemporary Jewelry in Florence, Italy. Theses young artists wish to use jewelry as a way to communicate personal messages to others.

« Karen Vanmol seeks in her work harmony to unite two worlds.
She is looking for a delicate balance between elements of the busy, modern city life and references to the silence and the slowness of nature. Her jewelry combine in a sensitive way clean organic shapes, and building materials with natural materials. Such as ground plans of a house look like farmland, a forests look like skyscrapers, in Karens work blurs the boundary between town and countryside. »

« …my recent work presents deteriorated architectural forms as objects of adornment. As a series of brooches, they reference jewelry’s historical representation of wealth, while their forms capture degraded fragments of local architecture. Folds and cuts in iron surfaces invite peering into their voids, where delicate patterns set in colored enamel offset the dark metal façade. Reminiscent of wallpaper, the patterned interior surfaces speak of a careful care and consideration put into adorning ones own personal space. Voyeuristic glimpses inside the pieces reveal worn surfaces suggestive of domestic interiors.   » (2010)

“My work reflects my intimate world. Often I construct abstract versions of rooms, buildings, boxes, nests, clusters, and cities that mirror my feelings, dreams, and fears. Some of them relate to memories I have, people in my past, my family history, others to the people around me. Yet others deal with my needs for protection, my fear of being locked in or shut out and my fascination with visible and invisible boundaries and territories. I am intrigued by the process in which walls simultaneously define and shut out space. I love the imperfect, impermanent, and incomplete; cycles of growth and decay, eroded geological structures and abandoned buildings inspire me. I often make unorthodox combinations of materials to create tension and balance. Sometimes I use found objects: quiet mirrors of other intimate worlds.“

« Previously trained as an architect, I have always envisioned buildings as machines. Architectural elements are designed to form spaces that manipulate activities and movement. While jewellery cannot divorce itself from the human body, the most intimate space lies in between the body and the object(s). EXPO ‘A Jewellery Circus’ – SILO, Gothenburg (Sweden) – 2-31 Oct. 2010

We are a group of 3 swedish jewellery artists, located in Gothenburg:
Therese Stawlin, Gertrud Heinerud and Elin Ryd.
This fall we have invited 11 guest artist with different characters, talents and nationalities to form A Jewellery Circus!!
Different characters, talents and nationalities will meet under one roof and the uniqueness of each artist will be drawn to extremes.
Jewelry artists fron Sweden, Italy, USA, Greece and Japan have been working around the theme Circus and the result will be shown at SILO in Gothenburg/Sweden.
