FLOURISH exhibition - 'Wine Leaf' brooches by Akiko Kurihara in silver and glass cut from wine bottles‘Wine Leaf’ brooches by Akiko Kurihara in silver and glass cut from wine bottles

« Things are flourishing in the jewellery garden ….giant porcelain cabbage necklaces, cut glass ‘Wine Leaf’ brooches, overblown bright blue enamel blossom jewels…

With an international reputation for showcasing the best in radical contemporary jewellery, Kath Libbert Jewellery Gallery, based at Salts Mill since 1996, marks her sixteenth birthday with flair! Flourish exhibits a fantastical array of art jewellery selected from around the globe.

From Dutch artist Nina Sajet’s surreal transformation of cabbages and sprouts into fine porcelain neckpieces, to South Korean Seulgi Kwon’s marvellous delicately tinted intricate silicone organisms that come to life when touched and worn. Textile inspired Francisca Bauza from Germany and Mallorca presents vibrant enamelled floral necklaces whose folds in metal and crimped edges mimic material; Yu-Ping Lin from Taiwan creates playful Origami inspired textile brooches that mutate into bracelets and back again – like jewellery ‘Transformers’- they can be worn in a myriad of different ways!

Additionally 100 international jewellers involved with the gallery over the last sixteen years have been invited to each enter an exuberant celebratory ring into a flamboyant competition called FlourishRing! Visitors to the gallery will be able to vote for their favourite by trying it on and being photographed modelling it. These photos will then become part of a growing installation on the walls of the gallery. The FlourishRing that gets the most public votes during the exhibition will win £250.

The gallery has represented a host of fantastic jewellers over the years including many renowned award winning UK and international art jewellers for instance Jacqueline Mina, OBE who is a Jerwood Prize winner, Georg Dobler twice winner of the Herbert Hoffman Prize – the most prestigious international art jewellery award, Adam Paxon – winner of the Jerwood Prize and the Herbert Hoffman prize and Malcolm Morris who created the tiaras worn by Gwyneth Paltrow in ‘Shakespeare in Love’.

Kath Libbert, the gallery’s founder and curator says: ‘’We are honoured that these celebrities of the jewellery world are all going to be taking part in FlourishRing along with many new creative talents. I can’t wait to see what they each come up with!!”

COUP de COEUR : SeulGi KWON, new works 2011

Classé dans : brooches,COUP DE COEUR,Korea (KR),plastiques,Seul-Gi KWON (S.KR) — bijoucontemporain @ 1:34

Always so MAGICAL, so mysterious, so attractive !!

SeulGi KWON says :

« As root of subject matter of art, nature provided infinite possibility of creation and we created artworks based on continuous study and experience toward art from past to present. In the past, roots were selected within the scope that can be experienced visually but due to development of science technology even microscopic parts are used as subject matter of art. Together with development of natural science, visual images that were not experienced in the past were created and this helped us to cause new imagination to us. Based on these experiences, we are able to create organic form in a new viewpoint which is different from the past.
There are organisms that pursue changes while it complies to certain rule known as order and harmony within the nature. These organisms are consists of cells. Unit cells itself shows various change in forms at each stage during the course of creation, grow, division, and extinction. The course of change gives fantasy about unpredictable ‘organism’ and organic form itself of cells which are basic unit of life formation contain element of infinite fantasy.
By analyzing cell form and shape through basic element of model, we arranged shape trait of cell as line, form and color. We used it as basic shape measure and instead of reproduce it as itself we expressed 2nd dimensional image that can be considered from the subject.
We actively expressed organic movement of cell with its mysterious color and its constant changing form by using silicone which is synthetic resins as its major component, and made spectator and wearer to feel interest by texture and materiality and transparency of silicone. » https://fbcdn-sphotos-a.akamaihd.net/hphotos-ak-ash4/293619_289963114364553_100000525993380_1096392_423404921_n.jpg

EXPO ‘Cominelli Foundation Award’ – Fondazione Cominelli (Cisano di San Felice del Benaco, Italy) – 12 Sept.–3 Oct. 2010

The Fondazione Cominelli, in carrying out its cultural activities has now come up with an articulated project where it becomes a reference point for the applied arts, not only for exhibitions, but also as a place where applied art “is done”; it does this by organising workshops and conferences on the subject; of this complex panorama it has chosen to present and delve into some sectors only: photography, ceramics and jewellery.

http://www.fondazionecominelli.it/foto/logofondazione.gif

The Fondazione Cominelli is sided by AGC which organises and promotes the event. Agc has already promoted other projects on the national territory.
Agc, Associazione Gioiello Contemporaneo (Contemporary Jewellery Association) founded in June 2004, has, among its statutory objectives, that of drawing attention to the value of the contemporary jewellery culture and spreading it.
Contemporary jewellery today represents a sector of advanced research and experimentation of new expressive languages as well as exploiting the personal ornament concept.
In close contact with the international community, the association follows up a series of initiatives aimed at promoting a constructive and synergistic confrontation with other artistic and productive realities.
Here, for the first time, the “Premio Fondazione Cominelli” will be founded, this year referred to an international award for jewellery artists and designers and next year to the gold and jewellery areas of the Art Institutes and schools of contemporary jewellery. The first prize will be awarded to one of the participants selected for the “Premio Fondazione Cominelli” exhibition on contemporaneity in the jewellery research world.
Within this project it is important to point out the Foundation’s intention to set up a permanent collection of contemporary jewellery, following the events that will be organised there.
