EXPO ‘ONoff’ – SooLOCAL, Minneapolis (USA) – 24 Avril 2014

ONoff: An Exhibition of Makers that work ON and off the body

jeudi 24 avril 2014 –  18:00 – 21:00 (CDT)

This exhibition will be presented at SooLOCAL: A Division of Soo Visual Arts Center to run in conjunction with the 2014 SNAG conference in Minneapolis, MN.

 ONoff Exhibition.
image details: Manuela Jimenez - Right: Casi… 2013 / Left: She is Getting Lighter 2012
One would expect Jewelry artists to be limited to objects of personal adornment, but many contemporary makers in this field have gone beyond the constraints of functionality to pursue conceptual interests in areas such as photography, kinetics and sculpture. This exhibition seeks makers whose work demands exploration both on and off of the body. What happens when a metalsmith goes beyond the boundaries of the wearable? How does the work change when function and jewelry mechanics no longer need to be considered? Can the conversation continue seamlessly from a necklace into an installation or sculpture? The exhibition will feature two works by each artist selected: one piece of jewelry or wearable object and one piece that shifts in scale, medium or material in order to further investigate their ideas.Juror: Susie GanchSusie Ganch is currently Associate Professor and Head of the Metals Program at Virginia Commonwealth University in Richmond, Virginia. She is also Director of Radical Jewelry Makeover, an international traveling community jewelry mining and recycling project. Exhibition Organizers: Sarah Holden and Kat Cole

EXPO ‘Monochrome Noir’ – Velvet da Vinci Gallery, San Fransisco (USA) – 9 Janv.-17 Fevr. 2013

9 January – 17 February,  exhibition Monochrome Noir’  at Velvet da Vinci Gallery, San Fransisco, CA, U.S.A.

Curated by Michael Dale Bernard and Tara LocklearArtists’ reception Friday, January 11 from 6 to 8 p.m.

Monochrome Noir: Curated by Michael Dale Bernard and Tara Locklear - Participating artists: Allyson Bone, Sara Brown, Ashley Buchanan, Kat Cole, Gabriel Craig, Michael Dale Bernard, Robert Ebendorf, Réka Fekete Réka, Arthur Hash, Sarah Holden, Yevgeniya Kaganovich, Tara Locklear, Nick Mullins, Katie Poterala, Marissa Saneholtz, Loring Taoka, The Opulent Project, Robert Thomas Mullen, Tanel Veenre, Stephanie Voegele, Sarah West, Laura Wood, Leia Zumbro - Photo: Becky Parker

Monochrome Noir features work that boldly flaunts deep fields of black and that is punctuated with the perfect placement of a single color. These contemporary jewelry artists rely on the sleek, darker side of the monochromatic view. Often using found or recycled materials, much of this work presents a narrative inspired by geography, architecture, historical motifs, and decorative arts. The exhibition installation will also include portraits featuring the jewelry from Monochrome Noir by North Carolina photographer Becky Parker. This collection of jewelry and portraits alternates between punk and formal, irreverent and elegant. The show includes 22 artists from the United States, Estonia, and The Netherlands.

COUP de COEUR : Stephanie VOEGELE « skin adornment » – où la perle devient peau, ou vice-versa…..

Classé dans : COUP DE COEUR,plastiques,Stephanie VOEGELE (US) — bijoucontemporain @ 0:02

« Stephanie Voegele was born in Eau Claire, Wisconsin  » déjà, pour moi, cette phrase est magique : naître à « EAU CLAIRE » !! c’est un signe ….. :-)

Skin Adornment

“[Skin] lacks definite boundaries, flowing continuously from the exposed surfaces of the body to its internal cavities.” ~ Ellen Lupton
« My current research investigates intersections between the human body and the adornment on its surface.
Seemingly similar in function, skin, jewelry and clothing both reveal even as they conceal, seduce, and repulse.
What we place upon our body becomes a part of our being, another external layer of our manipulation.
These layers are constantly transitioning between the external and internal. It is in this dichotomy where my interest lies.
This work merges of the grotesque and the elegant, using pearl as an indicator of purity, vanity, social class, and beauty.
By layering this traditional ornament in a contemporary material such as silicone rubber, the pearl necklace becomes
a part of the body — both beauty and imperfection, both skin and adornment.
While jewelry creates a second skin, garments also function as layers between our physical and perceived bodies.
Just as skin flows continuously over our contours, clothing becomes an extension of the body.
In this work, the edge both peels away and merges with the body, blurring what is natural & man-made.
Through juxtapositions between the beautiful & the repulsive, the perfect & the imperfect, this work creates
tension between our surfaces and ourselves. Through the observable layers that envelope on our bodies,
we exhibit visual indicators to others within our culture. The border between body and embellishment
thus becomes blurred and our skin becomes the adornment. »

EXPO ’2nd annual “Earrings Galore” group show’ – Heidi Lowe Gallery, US – 22 mai-6 juill. 2010

The second annual “Earrings Galore” group show at Heidi Lowe Gallery will showcase dozens of artists this year. From 6-9 p.m. Saturday, June 12, the gallery will host an opening reception in conjunction with Rehoboth Beach’s “Mosaic” art walk.
“Last year, ‘Earrings Galore’ was one of our most successful shows,” gallery owner Lowe said. “This year I am finding a new, fun, and unexpected way to display the earrings. The type of earring someone wears can say a lot about the person. So, I am displaying a lot of different styles to appeal to as many women as possible. The display will only enhance the earrings’ ‘cool factor’.”
The complete show will be on display until July 6 and features artists from across the United States as well as London. A partial display will be on display through September.
