SIERAAD Art Fair 2012 – Amsterdam – 1–4 Nov. 2012

SIERAAD Art Fair, international jewellery design fair – 01.Nov.2012 – 04.Nov.2012

SIERAAD Art Fair, international jewellery design fair(ring by Serin Oh from Korea, one of the winners of the biennial international design contest New Traditional Jewellery 2010)

This year the poster will feature a ring by Serin Oh from Korea, one of the winners of the biennial international design contest New Traditional Jewellery 2010: True Colours. After the great success of last year another delegation of Korean contemporary jewellery designers will be present at the fair this year – definitely something to look forward to because in our Western eyes these artists give a unique interpretation of their cultural history.

‘NEW NOMADS’ New Traditional Jewellery 2012

More Info: http://www.newtraditionaljewellery.com

exhibition New Nomads

exhibition New Nomads will be shown during SIERAAD Art Fair, 1 – 4 November 2012, in the Gashouder, WesterGasfabriek, Amsterdam  www.sieraadartfair.com

For the 2012 design contest and exhibition the professional jury of New Traditional Jewellery (NTJ) has chosen the theme ‘NEW NOMADS’, because both literally and figuratively this theme offers many possibilities for inspiration.

NEW TRADITIONAL JEWELLERY, international jewellery design contest - JURY (gauche)NEW TRADITIONAL JEWELLERY, international jewellery design contest - JURY for 'new Nomads' droite

the professional jury of New Traditional Jewellery (NTJ) at (hard !) work ….

The history of jewellery is as old as mankind. While people went in search of parts with the best living conditions they carried their valuables with them, wearing them on their bodies. Jewellery that represents economic and social status, as it still does nowadays in the case of nomadic tribes. The dissemination of religions went hand in hand with an unprecedented range of religious jewellery and ornaments, ranging from small containers for religious texts to reliquaries and portable altars.
To this day, jewellery made of stable materials like gold and gems is the guarantee for your ‘ticket home’ in times of crises or when you have to flee from high-risk areas. Due to the global financial crisis prices of this so-called ‘flight gold’ have skyrocketed. Is there an alternative? Nowadays there are quite different streams of migrants but the principle is the same: people in search of parts with better living conditions. The whole world is on the move, from refugees to tourists, from emigrants to employees of multinationals. And you don’t even have to get up from your chair: Skype e.g. has made videoconferencing into a social medium.
NTJ asks contemporary professional jewellery designers to build bridges between the traditional jewellery of e.g. nomads, pilgrims, explorers, globetrotters, refugees or colonists and possible symbols bearers representing the mobility of the ‘NEW NOMADS’. Check the attachments for conditions and criteria.

Traveling exhibition of Contemporary Jewellery
Our society keeps giving definitions. Each object has its own definition, its own function, so what happens when the rules are changed, when the object becomes poetry?
It gives birth to a desire to understantd what is unknown, to file it in a familiar universe.
Nevertheless, the poetry of the object, of these contemporay jewels, implies feelings, discovery. You surrender to the desire of wearing a piece of the universe of an artist. It is a way to give it another identity, to find its own definition.
Through this exhibition „oh My !“ I am introducing different artists from varied backgrounds, each in their own way telling us a story. And this is conveyed through these contemporary jewels which are so surprising, fascinating, and make us wonder… A special link develops between the public and these objects.
Nelly Van Oost – Curator of the traveling gallery projet.

EXPO ‘UltraMarine’ – Tallinn, Estonia – 7 Oct.-6 Nov. 2011

UltraMarine as a word derivates from Latin ultra + marinus and means ’over the sea’ or ’beyond the sea’.
Ultramarine is a fiery blue pigment extracted from lapis lazuli, one of the oldest precious stones used in jewellery for thousands of years. Lapis lazuli or lazurite was imported to Europe from Middle Asia by sea via Venice, hence the name ’beyond the sea’.
Ultramarine was a rare and valuable colorant, as expensive as gold leaf because of its remote origin and complex production process. Medieval masters often used that exotic pigment for the uppermost colour layer only. Sometimes just the robes of Virgin Mary and li’l Jesus were painted using the priceless blue.
UltraMarine is a solo sailor’s route across the sea, an artist’s dialogue with a material that takes place while she works at her desk. One can spy a knowing smile on the countenance of she who has arrived at her destination – for the joy of surpassing oneself is the greatest pleasure of all. A co-conspirator knows the feeling well. The sea unites; the land divides. UltraMarine is bluer than the sea.

EXPO itinérante ‘Oh My !’ – 24 juin 2011 à ……. – lieu … SECRET !

OH MY!

Tabea Reulecke: Solo ExhibitionATTA Gallery (Bangkok, Thailand) -
19 Fevr-15 Mars 2011
2011 is the year of the rabbit. So what could be more fitting for gallery ATTA than to start off the exhibition season by showcasing the work by Tabea Reulecke ?

http://www.tcdcconnect.com/content/blog/wp-content/uploads/2011/01/ATTA-Gallery-_400-X-400.jpg

Tabea Reulecke (Germany, 1981)
Tabea completed a Diploma in Gem and Jewellery design, Idar-Oberstein, 2006. Since 2007 she has been an assistant at Idar-Oberstein. She has participated in a number of workshops at the ravary workshop, also with Uta Feiler, Peter Skubic, and Beate Klockmann. She has lectured and held workshops in Germany and Estonia. Tabea has held solo exhibitions at Gallery Marzee and Gallery Caroline van Hoek and participated in numerous group exhibitions in Estionia, Australia, Netherlands, Uk and Germany. She won the Graduation Prize, Gallery Marzee 07/08. (« Pieces of Eight Gallery » blog)

« The rabbit is running like a fool, he will stumble over his own paws any moment now. The brooch as cartoon. What’s he up to, where’s he going to? The expression is his eye is one of joy and excitement, the colours of the brooch are fresh. Speed, movement and joy are somehow synonymous. The faster the music the more cheerful it is. Inertia, depression is often synonymous with standing still, motionless, frozen. Music is slow, tones are low. That is how you feel when totally sad, depressed and knocked down. You can’t move, you feel locked up in your own body and sorrow. The moment you start moving energy returns. Movement, speed is freedom.
Tabea’s depiction of a rabbit having fun fits in a tradition that is age-old. On an early antique Egyptian painting on papyrus a lion and an antelope play senet, a board game. The lion moves his pawn laughing in victory, the antelope is beaten. In jewellery from ancient times onwards animals are depicted, sometimes having a symbolic meaning but also used in a decorative way. In art and literature the use of animals is a way to reflect on human behaviour. By mirroring ourselves with the help of animals we are able to reflect and to laugh about ourselves. Tabea’s rendering of an animal in action is not a common theme. But it is a perfect expression of speed, fun and excitement. »

« For my works I mainly use natural materials, rarely artificial ones like plastic for example. I create my own world with them. Certain materials happen to become synonyms of other words so that there is a story that you can only read if you know the necessary vocabulary.
When I’m watching myself, I realize that I don’t consist of only one material either. I’m soft and hard, warm and cold, wet and dry … My jewellery comes out of my inner self where there are many more differences.
Nothing there is only on the surface. » (Tabea Reulecke)
