A TRIBUTE TO MANFRED BISCHOFF   – 43 Students Pay Homage
43 of his former students from 22 countries who will each show a piece at the exhibition, dedicated to Manfred’s golden “Fingerpuppets” by creating their own little version of Manfred, the real golden boy.

#20
Opening 24.02.2016 18:00

« About the exhibition :  A former student, Isabel Dammermann, took it upon herself to make a special event for the teacher Manfred Bischoff who inspired so many. At the same time, she has managed to create a very interesting exhibition that is on display during the Munich Jewellery week 2016. »

Jewellery artists from 22 countries all over the world come together in a memorial exhibition for Manfred Bischoff who passed away a year ago. At some point or other, they have all been taught by Manfred at Alchimia, contemporary jewellery school in Florence, and have each submitted one piece to the exhibition that honours a great teacher.
German born Manfred Bischoff lived in Tuscany in a house that was in itself a piece of exquisite art. Its magical interior made a natural and perfect framework for his work that has been called by many names: sensual, poetic, lyrical, great, intimate, strong, beautiful, satirical and always surprising. He worked in 22K gold, as pure as he could manage and still maintain a rigidity in the metal that allowed him to execute his ideas in delicate and well crafted pieces, often accompanied with subtle pink coral and drawings.
His dedication to the language of jewellery and his visions were most likely one of the reasons that the Alchimia school managed to become known and respected internationally in a relatively short time span.

The teacher
« As a student at Alchimia, you never really met Manfred until the third year. He was a giant figure who arrived to the narrow street in Florence on Tuesdays. He spent time with the older students, watched the world from behind his sunglasses when he leaned onto the wall at coffee breaks, and then he vanished again.
It was not until you were there yourself – in your final year – that you met the myth and began to appreciate his capacity to engage in your work and to show you how you might develop it. He was a surprisingly selfless teacher, and during critiques in the small classroom he managed to create a space for you and him to engage in a dialogue about your work that was stripped of second agendas and based solely on how he could help you to become a better artist.
It is only later, you come to understand how exceptionally truthful and helpful he tried to be in order to make you grow as a person and as an artist. »

Yoko Shimizu: Spotlight Exhibition

PLEASE JOIN US TO CELEBRATE YOKO SHIMIZU’S WORK
SATURDAY, DECEMBER 13, from 3:00 – 5:00 p.m

Yoko Shimizu’s work is presented at Mobilia Gallery as a part of the series Spotlight Exhibitions that  feature a small collection of an artist’s most current work for a short period of time.

Yoko Shimizu: Spotlight Exhibition

« My approach to jewellery often begins with a focus on the relationship between the jewellery piece and the human body. I look for simplicity and harmony in this relationship through the process of making: experimenting with materials and forms, constructing one part at a time, pausing to see the effect on the body. In the end I feel the need to leave an imperfection or add or eliminate an element, so that there is something a bit off or unexpected. At times I am in search of tension, rigor and sometimes a touch of warmth.
« The theme of the series in colored resin is ‘Transformation.’ It is a part of a study in the transformation of forms, materials and colors. Pieces of wood are transformed into resin and the surface of wood is transferred onto the surface of resin. Transformation from wood to resin, from natural to artificial, from opaque to transparent. The transformation continues with the movement of the wearer and reflection of light, losing something but gaining something at the same time.«  Yoko Shimizu

EXPO ‘CURRENT – MANO × Orizzonti’ – MANO Contemporary Jewellery & Object,Taipei, Taiwan (R.O.C.) – 8-26 Janv. 2014

CURRENT – MANO × Orizzonti

In the beginning of the 2014, MANO has teamed up with Japanese contemporary jewellery group Orizzonti to present the touring exhibition “CURRENT”.
12 artists, with different backgrounds, from 7 countries, came together to think about the basic question: “where is the world going?” The name of the exhibition “CURRENT” not only stands for the flow of ideas but also what’s happening in the world now. Both those concepts are intended to be expressed through jewellery. Each piece is presented together with the concept video made by the artist.
In Living with Art, Mark Getlein proposes 6 activities, services or functions of contemporary artists :
1. Create placese for some human purpose.
2. Create extraoridinary versions of ordinary objects.
3. Record and commemorate.
4. Give tangible form to the unknown.
5. Give tangible form to feelings.
6. Refresh our vision and help see the world in new ways.
MANO is delighted to bring “CURRENT” to the current climate in Taiwan, hoping to offer the viewers to see these extraordinary versions of ordinary objects which express memory, feelings, and the unknown and to see the world in new light.

EXPO ’1X1 collective’ – Vander A Gallery, Bruxelles (BE) – 31 Mai-30 Juin 2012

1×1 Collective is a project born in Florence in 2010 to promote and diffuse contemporary art jewelry through exhibitions, fairs, and events. It is an open and ever-changing collective of independent jewelry artists.

Artistic and technical research and the freedom of experimentation make the jewelry gain new functions and meanings.

For this exhibition at vander A gallery in Brussels, they present 8 international artists, very different one from the other, all met in Alchimia school, Florence, wellknowned for its experimental jewellery and design schollarship.

1X1 collective1×1 Collective is open to collaborations, in the jewelry field as outside, to find new ways for showing original works to a wider public.
1×1 Collective changes its shape, leader and location following each project. It is an informal group of people based on active involvement, cooperation and sharing of ideas, knowledge and skills for the common goal of understanding and being understood.
For this exhibition there is not a theme because they want to focus on each artist’s personal approach and research, they believe that each one’s individuality and autonomy is one of the strenght of contemporary art jewelry and that it gets highlighted through the free dialogue of a collective exposition.

Joya Barcelona 2011 – Galleries/schools – ALCHIMIA

Alchimia Gallery has no specific address, and no fixed base, to promote contemporary jewellery projects in different and sometimes unconventional spaces by producing, organizing and supporting cultural events, exhibitions and fairs. This use of transient locations reflects the spirit of adventure, mobility, innovation and energy, inherent in the philosophy of Alchimia Jewellery School.

The gallery’s activity is directed mainly to the motivation and support of artists, part of the Alchimia “family” with the aim to provide opportunities for visibility and growth through the creation of a valuable international network.

At JOYA 2011 the gallery is presenting a selection of work from teachers as well as students graduated in 2011: Lucia Massei (Italy), Doris Maninger (Italy-Austria), Marzia Rossi (Italy), Daniela Boieri (Italy), Yoko Shimizu (Japan), Aline Battegay (Switzerland), Anja Eichler (Germany), Wen-Hsien Carissa Hsu (Taiwan), Gabi Veit (Italy), Lea-Maria Becker (Denmark), Jade Drakes (Trinidad), Nadege Roscoe-Rumjahn (Canada) and Satita Rajpojjanarat (Thailand)
