Jelizaveta Suska
She was born in Latvia, where she completed her Bachelor degree education in Art Academy of Latvia as a metal designer. At the age of 24 she moved to Gothenburg in Sweden for studying and permanent living. In 2015 she graduated from Academy of Design and Crafts (HDK) at University of Gothenburg.
In year 2016 Jelizaveta received The Herbert Hofmann Prize, and Amber prize at Amberif Award.
‘Frozen Moment’ pieces are a lot about feelings of nostalgia, of a moment in time. In my work, I was looking for materialization of these abstract matters. I based it on associations and feelings. After a period of research, I came up with my own material that the pieces are made of. This material has two main compounds: polymer, that is light and transparent, just like ‘a moment’ and crushed marble, that creates an illusion of a solid stone which I associate with a feeling of nostalgia.
In the beginning of crafting each piece, material is hot and dynamic but in a while it turns still. Like a metaphor of a moment becoming a memory. When looking at my works, people often are saying that they look like ice or unknown minerals.
I question traditional approaches and instead of valuable jewels I celebrate the idea behind the material. That’s why for the rear of the brooches and other supporting details I use valuable metals like gold, gold plated silver and titanium.
In this project, I created more than 200 hundred pieces. I then selected 21 and crafted them into the jewelry.

EXCHANGE-BIJOU 1 – Rafael Luis ALVAREZ – KOSMOS en el Museo José Hernandez en Buenos Aires (Argentina) – 10 Fevr.-13 Mars 2017

Rafael Luis Alvarez (ARGENTINA)

COLECCIÓN KOSMOS,UNA COLECCION DE PINTURA, DIBUJOS, FOTOGRAFIA Y JOYERIA

Museo José Hernandez en Buenos Aires (Argentina)

Inauguracion Viernes 10 de febrero 2017 18:30 hs
Rafael Luis Alvarez - KOSMOS, UNA COLECCION DE PINTURA, DIBUJOS, FOTOGRAFIAY JOYERIA:

She just had an exhibition, Unexpected, since  NOV 24th 2016  at Craft Council of British Columbia‎ Gallery, 1386 Cartwright Street, Granville Island; Vancouver V6H 3R8 – An Exhibition by the Vancouver Metal Arts Association

Unexpected explores the strange and sometimes discordant elements that make the viewing, wearing, and making of Contemporary Jewellery an enjoyable endeavor.
The unexpected and Contemporary Art Jewellery are by no means strange bedfellows- viewers and wearers of Contemporary Jewellery often seek out our discipline because it is unusual and extra-ordinary. The unusual, and unusual elements and materials, have become de rigueur in a creative world that continues to embrace post-disciplinary art practices which move beyond medium centered approaches to making.
Participating artists: Lydia Buxton — Melissa Cameron — Bridget Catchpole — Barbara Cohen — Jennifer Crupi – Yoshie Hattori — Kyri Hinkleman — Holland Houdek — Karin Jones — Joshua Kosker — Matt Lambert — Andy Lowrie – Jacqueline Lung — Brooke Marks-Swanson –  Sharon Massey — Louise Perrone- – Lissy Selvius — Jina SeoAric Verrastro — Kari Woo — Lawrence Woodford.

Artist Statement
The extraordinary power of objects is obtained, because people believe in them. The more mundane the objects are, the more powerful they become.
My practice contextualizes the primitive energy that is submerged beneath the layers of garments. When the body is removed, the absence becomes an empty structure. The internal structure is evidence of human existence. It remains full of authentic spirit and fantasy.
Through the processes of deconstructing and reconstructing materials into symbolic forms, I uncover the hidden intimate and sensual power of humanity. It is a moment when ordinary objects become surreal and uncanny in order to redeem the socially constructed expectations and perceptions.

EXCHANGE-BIJOU 2 – Carlos SILVA – Tests and Experiments

Carlos SILVA

Here are some « experiments », as an « appetizer » ! ;-)

« “A subject that is beautiful in itself gives no suggestion to the artist. It lacks imperfection.” – Oscar Wilde
In our daily lives we come across many elements that hold a hidden beauty.
I feel I am rarely attracted by the immediate beauty of nature. It is in its minor flaws, irregularities and asymmetries I find true expression.
In my work I create jewelry that can translate this seemingly random nature. I use many organic shapes, and use techniques which allow me to replicate these unique shapes, their natural formations and imperfections, because therein lies their true beauty. »

Anne DINAN

« (My) inspiration is nature and industry combined. What have we done? »

(SURTOUT en écoutant « I‘m calling you » !!)

EXCHANGE-BIJOU 2 – Emilie Dell’Aniello et le changement …

Emilie Dell’Aniello

EMD joaillière / Emilie dell Aniello - "Tisserandes" (conjugaisons) - collier, coton: EMD joaillière / Emilie dell Aniello – « Tisserandes » (conjugaisons) – collier, coton 2014

Tal Efraim

Discovered when the Final Project Presentation 2016 at Shenkar

« Tal Efraim is a graduate of Shenkar College of Engineering, Design and Art. Currently living and working from Israel, her work is driven out of her sketchbook, where she documents the world around her, creating a « dictionary » of design possibilities. Her work is made of gold, silver, porcelain and a variety of gemstones. » (Klimt02)

« My pieces are a translation of how I view the world, especially the many details that I take note of. By exposing my work, I feel as if I can share my perspective with others. When my pieces are purchased it is a great honor, as well as helps me explore the definition of what wearable art is all about. / Tal Mohr »

« What piece or work has given you the most satisfaction? « As part of my collection Connectionary, I designed a broche titled Heart. It captures my aesthetical view of what jewellery art is all about; having a great amount of details, being made of a variety of materials, and yet still consisting of an overall look that is very clean. »

«  By documenting details such as day-to-day mechanical joints, swivels, hinges and physical connections of objects in my sketchbook, I create my own private alphabet, which will later be transformed into the language of my designs.
My pieces are all one of a kind – whilst I can make to order any piece several times, each will be a little different due to the nature of handwork and craft.«

« Does technology affect the value of design, whether handcrafted or machine-made? And can we tell the difference now with the boundaries becoming blurred ? The collection started with very soft and organic jewellery that expresses birth and the creation of something new. To these emotional shapes I added a strong metal outline to symbolise the overpowering force of new technologies on crafts.«

« LACUNA is a space between elementsA quiet elongation between one musical note to the next – A gap in the text that leaves room for imagination  –          I’d like to invite you into a world of intrigue and imagination. In this world, I see my jewels as unique 3D objects, each containing the shell of an element that once existed … and now in its place, the lacuna – just a memory of what once was.   The unique shapes of my designs were formed as if I removed a “frozen moment” froma step in the design process. Space remains between the material that originally was and the shape that came to be. With your imagination, this space allows a glimpse into the elements that were whisked away and hidden during this intriguing “frozen moment”.  In each collection I use a variety of techniques and technologies, which give expression to the concept of my designs.  I meticulously add textures, colors and finishes to the 3d prints and casted jewelry, so that the surface and interior spaces are decorated by the small details.   My name is Yafit Ben Meshulam. I’m a jewelry designer, maker and metal smith working and living in  Tel Aviv, Israel. I earned a B.DES degree in jewelry design from the distinguished Shenkar College of engineering and design in Tel Aviv.  Thanks for letting me share my passion with you «

« Does jewelry within a specific collection have to be similar to one another? Further, is it possible to create an eclectic collection b ased on the same fundamental principles, or in other words D.N.A., of the jewelry’s design elements?
In creating a collection, designers sometimes realize upon reviewing their work that his or her project has another connection that wasn’t consciously created. In this project I decided to make this unknown, secondary connection the leading topic of my collection.
Throughout my process, every item b egan as an intuitive idea which was formulated independently into its correct form b ased on the materials and technology used. The connection between the items is revealed in the end; when all the pieces appear together. In my case, the connection that was discovered was measurements. Each piece emphasizes measurement in different ways; and together they appear as eclectic collection.
However, the result of this semi-blind process brings to the forefront an age old question: What makes a collection cohesive; is it materials? technology? shape? or is it the hand of the designer which gives a collection unity? »
