Cette exposition présente une sélection de créations des étudiants de la Haute École de Sciences Appliquées de Trèves à idar-oberstein, en allemagne.

Elle évoque les développements récents concernant l’étude des pierres précieuses et des bijoux, s’attache à explorer le langage de la nouvelle génération de créateurs de bijoux

« Desert, heat, dead trees, bareness, shadows, silence, stillness, vast landscapes, huge skies, storms.
Different materials at different times start attracting me-
I am searching, with no clear idea as yet, I am stockpiling.
For the latest pieces it was steel, crystals and uncut stones in certain tones and colours which drew me.
Many fragments and sketches are turned into three-dimensions, experimenting with the materials and techniques that currently inspire. I may draw into perspex, carve it, engrave formica, add paint, use enamel, resin and gold leaf, set stones or glass fragments to achieve what I need. Improvising, playing with the fragments, shifting shapes around, introducing new components. The results are a mixture of spontaneity, instinct and that seed of an idea.
I enjoy that a piece can take or guide you places where you hadn’t previously thought of going, when that accidental rightness happens or a mistake makes you see another way, gives you a new idea which would never have occurred had it not been for the mistake, that fortunate accident. What is left out is essential. Making marks that are my own.
My different working methods also apply to painting, printmaking and sculpture, which all interconnect and develop one from another, size and materials link. Painting, adding textures, mixed media, brushstrokes, rubbing out, painting over, sanding back are all techniques that I use not only in painting. Hints of images emerge, half hidden, fading, disappearing, reappearing. The connections between each of the disciplines every time getting closer. » Judy McCaig

« Stones fascinate me; they are thousands of years old, yet at the same time limited. They exist in all kinds of colours and shapes.
No two stones are the same. In my work I concentrate on preserving the primary character of each stone. I focus on the shape and the structure - the aspects unique to each stone. It is these elements that make it possible for every piece of jewellery to have its own individual character and depth, regardless of similarity in form. Under this credo I develop single pieces and small series. »

« I like the sensitive connection between humans and stones. I find it interesting that we can hang out in front of a stone for hours, just to look at it. I like the way we carry them around like treasures. I find it interesting that we trust in stones so much that we build our houses and walls with them. I like stone collages that occur unintentionally. I like the way we set stones in streets. I like how stones help us to remember, as memorials or gravestones. I like the freedom in stones and the danger, such as when someone tries to reach the top of a mountain. I like their roughness and their fragility.«   Deborah Rudolph

Es la 1ª exposición que hemos preparado para celebrar nuestro 10º aniversario. Se reparte entre la escuela Massana y amarantojoies, y muestra una selección de obras recientes de los estudiantes de la sección de « Joyería y piedras preciosas » de la Universidad de Trier.  En ésta, toman parte alumnos del programa de Diplomado, Licenciatura y Maestría en Artes. La exposición cuenta con obras realizadas en todas las etapas de los estudios, con el fin de exponer una imagen auténtica del nivel de producción de esta institución, y también del desarrollo personal y artístico de los estudiantes.

« (…) Studierende an der Hochschule Trier in Idar-Oberstein begeben sich auf die Suche nach ihrem Platz und ihrer Rolle als Schmuckschaffende in der heutigen Gesellschaft. Dabei geht es auch um die inhaltliche Auseinandersetzung, wie dem Schmuck als neuen Totems der Gegenwart eine Wirkmächtigkeit und Aura verliehen und wie er mit Bedeutung aufgeladen werden kann. Für uns Lehrende ergibt sich daraus die abgeleitete Frage: Welches gesellschaftliche Wissen sollten Studierende sich aneignen? Wie können wir Erkenntnisse generieren und im Studium stimulieren und aktivieren, die über das Schmückende hinausgehen? »

EXPO ‘Daniel Kruger’ – Villa Bengel, Idar-Oberstein (DE) – 9 mai–28 juin 2012

The city government of Idar-Oberstein shows the works of the artist Daniel Kruger, head of jewellery High School in Hall « Castle Giebichenstein » in cooperation with the University of Applied Siences Trier from May 9 – June 28, 2012 in the Villa Bengel.

Born in Cape Town, Daniel Kruger completed his field of study in goldsmith’s art at the Academy of Fine Arts in Munich with Professor Hermann Jünger, after studying in South Africa from 1974 to 1980.
Since 1980, he works as a freelance jewellery and ceramic artist with multiple exhibitions in the home country and abroad. Since 2003, he teaches sculpture and jewellery at the Giebichenstein Academy in Halle. The exhibition provides a deep insight into the work of the artist, who analyses each accruing material – whether glass or diamond in the rough – for its aesthetic qualities, which the carrier brings to speech as a very personal object, ring, bracelet, brooch or necklace.
