quelques mots … de la part de Lisa KROEBER

Lisa Kroeber (ou Kröber) -  (diplomée d’Idar-Oberstein en 2010)

« the word is a picture and the picture is a word
framed words become brakeable pictures,
blurried places-they are blear, but there
thoughts in mind become words on paper
metal becomes paper, becomes a place
a word-place
word-places
a homeplace
homeplaces, in which thoughts are living,
with waxern houses and glasern protection.
homeplaces, in which the words find a quitnesse,
with silent patience in constant beeing.
homeplaces, in which thoughts are prisoned,
with calm violence and tender force.
the words last places are jewellery
wearable, guessable, inaccessible  »

« I play with thoughts, which are growing in my mind, which first change into pictures and then into words. I bring this words on paper, they become poems. But there, they are just standing – simple, left behind, unprotected – and only describing this thoughts. Boring and naked. The paper is a momentarily place of the words. Here, my thoughts are unprotected, the words can be erased or fade away. They can be read by everybody to every time.
In my jewellery the paper becomes metal. I built boxes, or frames, fill them with wax, which is equal with my thoughts. Like the wax needs protection of the melting, my thoughts and words need protection, too. They are packed in boxes, like precious things in an old treasure chest. Here they are protected with glas or resin, they are conserved, they are in good hands. My words changed from readable writings to only  blurry discernible signs, feelable, noticeable and interpretable for everybody diffrently.

Topic 2011: « Identity and Responsibillity of Applied Art »

On the way to developing a theory of jewellery

‘SchmuckDenken’ is an attempt to reflect on what jewellery is. It concerns an interdisciplinary approach which extends beyond the respective categories of art or craft, applied or free: the exploration of what jewellery means – not what it looks like.

sd5_flyervorne_08 dans BOOKS / BIBLIO

In 2005 some initial intellectual approaches were developed in an interdisciplinary discourse between ethnologists, philosophers, cultural researchers and natural scientists. In 2006 the discussion concerned the works and activities of conceptual jewellery artists, in order to address the complex relationship between beauty and uniformity in 2007. After the debate on the meaning of ornamentation for jewellery in 2008, ‘SchmuckDenken’ 2009 focused on jewellery as an object. Finally, 2010 reflected on aspects of globalisation with an eye to the European conception of art in the context of oriental-islamic tradition.

The 7th ‘SchmuckDenken’ will strike a balance between the symposia to date and identify the initial contours of a theory of jewellery.

At the same time, possible parameters for strategies for action for an autonomous creative practice of applied art in the conflicting demands of craft, design and fine art will be developed. As a result, the focus this year will be on the artistic identity of jewellery creators and their social role and responsibility.

‘SchmuckDenken’ will be continued as part of the Idar-Obersteiner FormDiskurs 2012.

A book SchmuckDenken. Eine Theorie des Schmucks. [A theory of jewellery]’ will be published by the ARNOLDSCHE Verlagsanstalt Stuttgart to mark the 7th colloquium. The book includes a selection of articles from the years 2005-2010 and also contains around 100 illustrations of works of students and graduates which provide an appraisal of the current situation of the field of study of Precious Stone and Jewellery Design.

‘ThinkingJewellery’ is a project of the city of Idar- Oberstein and the University of Applied Sciences Trier, Department of Gemstone and Jewellery Design in Idar-Oberstein in cooperation with: Gesellschaft für Goldschmiedekunst e.V. Hanau

Schmuck-Denken 6 – Thinking Jewellery – Idar-Oberstein (DE) 18-19 Mai 2010

Schmuck-Denken 6 - Thinking Jewellery - Idar-Oberstein (DE) 18-19 Mai 2010 dans Allemagne (DE) 18096

On the way to developing a theory of jewellery Schmuck-Denken is an attempt to reflect on what jewellery is. It concerns an interdisciplinary approach which extends beyond the respective categories of art or craft, applied or free: the exploration of what jewellery means – not what it looks like. In 2005 ethnologists, philosophers, cultural and natural scientists participated in an interdisciplinary discourse, in order to develop initial lines of thought. In 2006 the approach was more concerned with analysing the works and activities of conceptual jewellery artists, such as Astfalck, Mackert or Nisslmüller, and in 2007 the multi-layered relationship between beauty and uniformity was persued. A debate about the importance of ornamentation for jewellery ensued in 2008. ‘Schmuck- Denken 2009’ concentrated on jewellery as an object.
This year the 6th colloquium deals with the all-embracing tendencies towards globalization, which operate at every level – economic, political and cultural. The focus is on the cultural and artistic global interdependencies of the past and present and also considers their effects on jewellery. In the process, the theme will be exemplified in detail, taking art in the Islamic world as an example. ‘Schmuck-Denken’ will be continued as part of the Idar-Obersteiner FormDiskurs 2011.

EXPO- Also known as jewellery is a traveling exhibition with 17 artists -

« Contemporary jewelry, in France and abroad, is undergoing a spectacular evolution : in recent years, it has both staked out new territories of experimentation, and claimed a pivotal position between art, design and traditional craft. The title of this exhibition underlines the specificity of contemporary jewelry, and the ambiguity inherent to a craft-based, boundary-pushing practice : the work selected is thus both alien to its tradition, and well versed in its history. The selection for this touring show focused on the work of 17 artists – French, or working in France - who together make a convincing case for the vitality of this rather under-exposed part of the European contemporary jewelry community.

This project is part of the ongoing program by La Garantie, Association for Jewelry, founded in 2007 in Paimpont (France). The purpose of this association is to promote jewelry outside its primary audience of makers, collectors, and gallery owners. The aim is to increase its visibility, and encourage confrontations with amateurs and specialists alike, through various approaches : historical conceptualization, the confrontation of current practices, the promotion and critical analysis of contemporary trends. The diverse backgrounds of the association’s founding members – two makers, two PhDs, one curator – reflects our ambition to establish a self-sufficient cultural `task force´ able to collaborate with both institutional and private partners. » (Merci pour cette présentation à la « Velvet da Vinci » Gallery)
