PREZIOSA is a cultural project designed and co-ordinated by “Le Arti Orafe”, since 1985 the most prestigious contemporary jewellery school in Italy.
The project, launched in 2005, has become one of the most important European events devoted to contemporary jewellery.
The conceptual quality, the presence of artists of international fame, the prestigious set-up, the elegant catalogues and the original formula that comprises the organisation of conferences with the artists taking part, make “Preziosa” an appointment that lovers of contemporary jewellery cannot afford to miss.
A country of exquisite jewellery traditions, Italy has no museum devoted to jewellery, and temporary exhibitions have always been rare.
The attention devoted by the communication media and the cultural institutions to initiatives devoted to this art form has – apart from a few shining exceptions – always been limited, while great interest has always been expressed by lovers of contemporary art.
Through the organisation of events such as PREZIOSA, the school wishes to help to fill a gap the discrepancy of which is more or less consciously acknowledged.
Since 2008, a «parallel» exibition for young artists is organized: PREZIOSA Young is already an international reference for new artists and goldsmiths

Mina Kang

« I have earned a master’s degree of jewelry design at Kook-Min university and I am now in activity as a jewelry-making artist. From the young age, I got much interested in sewing and juwely making, thanks to the mother who are skillful in sewing and knotwork. Thru my works I am trying to express my various feelings and emotions in combination of lines, colours and the concept of space. »

« Her work is « Light, colorful, refreshing » – The pieces are sewn bits of fabrics in contrasting colors and malleable geometric shapes. The strictness of the architectural order of these round and angular objects is almost at odds with the airy materiality of the pieces. The sophisticated rhythm of the structure and color of the pins is in perfect sync with their technically precise construction. » (BKV-Prize 2012 for young applied arts)

PREZIOSA 2013 starts from the otherness of this peculiar Art, and wants to focus on visual reaction of the “public” in face of contemporary research jewellery.
The thematic exhibition will be centred on the imaginary, on expectations and assumptions of the public in relation to the jewel.
The exhibition presents works by six international artists selected as examples of specific issues related to the imaginary: recognition/estrangement/surprise/rejection/trespassing, and will be divided into three sections:
– « To be or not be »: shapes visually recall ancient jewels like precious objects, but in reality….?
– Artwork by Karin Seufert and Philip Sajet
– The conceptual research on the imagination in jewellery: Suska Mackert
– « What I see is what I see! »
The irony of David Bielander; the aggressiveness of Sophie Hanagarth; the fun mechanics of Sigurd Bronger.
