Sébastien Carré – selected for TALENTE 2015

[Talente-Award presentation 2015 : 14 March 2015  16:30, Halle B1 Main stage of IHM (Internationalen Handwerksmesse Munich)]

Koen Jacobs (selected for Talente) with his series “DESTROYED BEAUTY

[Talente-Award presentation 2015 : 14 March 2015  16:30, Halle B1 Main stage of IHM (Internationalen Handwerksmesse Munich)]

Exploring the relationship between two worlds : the upper and underworld.
For me these worlds are not necessarily black and white, good and bad or life and death.
It can also be the reverse, with the upper world being hell and the underworld heaven.
Koen Jacobs was student at Alchimia in 2013, now is at Gerrit Rietveld Academy. During Alchimia Graduation work 2013, « Koen Jacobs, dutch and the only boy in class had moved to Alchimia from the very technical and traditional school of Schonhooven. His work is a sign of his transformation as a maker and he has shown great  courage and has challenged his assumptions without holding back throughout the year. »
During the creative process I was experimenting how to express this relationship through two materials, ebony wood and resin and how to let them become one. I found the answer in the circle of creation and destruction

Amy Peace-Buzzard -  selectionnée pour TALENTE 2015

[Talente-Award presentation 2015 : 14 March 2015  16:30, Halle B1 Main stage of IHM (Internationalen Handwerksmesse Munich)]

« There is a brutal transience in our fragile surroundings. Things fade and deteriorate. Over time we repair and mend. A fresh coat of paint, a crack filled. Inevitably these fixes themselves deteriorate, but in this we gain something new, something different from the original. Amy Peace-Buzzard’s jewellery reflects a sense of the lost and forgotten. Fascinated by objects that show a battered life: proudly displaying their impermanence, but going unnoticed, she focuses on a balance of the resilient with fragility. How we protect the damaged or allow it to continue alone in its decline. As much as time deteriorates, there will always remain a sense of what was once there.  »

PS : in BLUE see the posts abouth their jewellery !

« This year the exhibition is characterized by innovative, very different works in glass, ceramics and jewellery as well as by a large selection of textiles. In addition to works that are inspired by nature – whether by plant forms or by the atmosphere and moods of the landscape – works are to be seen that are dealing with the city and try to translate its poetry and problems into a visual mode. The appeal of surfaces and the development of new techniques to enhance the range of possibilities resulted in very different works. Other topics are the definition and the meaning of home and country, problems of environmental protection and the relationship of new technical possibilities and traditional craftsmanship. The combination of various unusual ideas, of different conceptual and aesthetic approaches results in a very special and fascinating exhibition.
As in the last years, many applications arrived for Talente from the field of jewellery. The young artists show a special interest in the techniques and ideas of the collage. Impressive are the contributions of the students from Idar-Oberstein (Germany) working with and interpreting the material stone which results in very different works with diverse concerns but all of quite archaic character (Sharaeh Aghaei, Iran; Elvira Golombosi, Ukraine; Tala Yuan, China). The works deal with issues of homeland, strangeness and identity, the unconscious and magic forces being inherent to the objects as well as with the importance and the condition of civilization-creating elements in the present. All in all, this year again the general interest in the combination of different materials and for the connection of specially made parts and found objects is evident. These elements can be created into architecturally-style arrangements, extended into long tubes, combined with materials such as perspex glass or be gathered into subtle, poetic compositions. Besides the major inspiration from natural forms technical ideas play a significant rôle. Katie Collins (USA/Australia) for example works from steel collapsible necklaces and bracelets that present different stages and are inspired by machines. Unusual are Karin Gyllerfelt’s (Sweden) works in which photos of richly draped textiles are applied on metal surfaces causing a vexing trompe l’œil-effect. By means of technique and motifs she hints at the themes of transformation and transience. Jing Yang (China/Germany) deals in her « vases » not only with gender-based stereotypes of her native China, but also with the playful analysis of forms by dividing a vase shape into compartments reflecting in her pendants on the relationship of these parts.  » (Klimt02)

Le bijou de Julian Steimer ? « From the line to space »

« The focus of my work is dealing constructively with concrete geometric shapes. The mold is referred to ground covering with the line. The stainless steel wire forming the basis for the construct. It is light and stable, with him to enable wonderfully open forms and expansive structures.
In the design I use the vocabulary of geometric shapes and their laws. The symmetry, clearly defined angle, but also the intuitive approach to proportions and spatial references are the featured design element in this work. Another important tool that I use every creative work is the sketch. It can be used first ideas and spatial situations to capture good and varied. The sketch but also is indicative only, because later, in the process of production, it is important to me, I spontaneously decide again and again and pursue unanticipated ways. The manual work is important to me and I am always a goal to have created a finished aesthetic object at the end of my work. »

« Contemporary jewellery – fine art, craft or design? “There are a lot of questions of where contemporary jewellery is going now, the direction it is going in, if the body is needed for it to work or not,” says Katerina Vorlova, the 27-year-old Czech contemporary jewellery designer and fine art graduate….
When considering Vorlova’s work it becomes clear that jewellery doesn’t need the body to come to life; part of Vorlova’s diploma collection hangs in a Prague gallery because it is too fragile to be wearable. The objects are made of plaster and hang on a string made of cotton. Vorlova continued to dip and re-dip the string in plaster until the objects got bigger and bigger. “The process is important for me as anything could happen. These objects can break easily as there is always some thought concerning losing material, breaking it and about its fragility.”
It’s sculptures or rather objects somehow connected to the body that Vorlova is creating and with that she continues to pose questions surrounding contemporary jewellery with the process being more relevant than finding answers. » (sleek-Mag)

Kristýna Španihelová  studied under the guidance of professor Karol Weisslechner at the Academy of Fine Arts and Design in the atelier of Metal and Jewellery where she is now working on her doctorate. She took part in academic internship programmes in the jewellery atelier at the  Academy of Arts, Architecture and Design in Prague (CZ) and studied design at the Academy in Ljubljana (SLO). In her theoretical and visual work she deals with feminine nature in connection with materiality and alchemy. Her works not only received various prizes (design competition Rings in Water 2007, Slovak jewellery competition Slovenský šperk 2005,2006…) but are on display in her home country and abroad as well.

Kristýna Španihelová presents a collection of bone jewellery from the cycle Život [i.e. Life] ANIMA. In her series of jewellery Kristýna primarily deals with the growth and development of feminine nature and principle.

Anima combines in itself the deeper and rationally imperceptible mystery of life. Carl Gustav Jung dealt with the topic of Anima in his work « The Idea of Redemption in Alchemy » and the author drew her inspiration from his theories as well. Jewellery from the cycle Life ANIMA are made of bleached bones which complement the carved-out silver lace work, synthetic pearls, gold foil, pyrites, coral and beads.

Quelques découvertes grâce à SCHMUCK 2014 et TALENTE ………..

Jing HE nous vient de Chine, étudie à la Gerrit Rietveld Academie, et fait partie des « sélectionnés » pour TALENTE 2014

« Questioning jewellery is my motivation of making it. I work with the wonder of the function, aesthetic and reason of jewellery; and also the self-awareness of making and movement of wearing. I prefer to see jewellery not only objects, but also a dynamic relationship with body and everyday life, which has the tension between « sense and nonsense », « usefulness and uselessness ».
I am interested in the functions of daily objects and the relationship between form and function. I appreciate the logic of some simple mass productions, where forms follow functional needs instead of aesthetic reasons. I wonder how the objects work and how people use or misuse them. During the research, I questioned characteristics of jewellery, and what it could be. »

Ne le laissez pas entrer dans votre cuisine, ou il vous transformera TOUT en BIJOU ! ;-)
