EXPO ‘Mari Ishikawa: Landscape’ – Klimt02 Gallery, Barcelona (ES) – 18 Avril-10 Mai 2013

While the formation architecture and landscape typically suggests buildings within a larger encompassing environment, I have chosen to consider them both the same level. Here the plants present an environment of nearly the same scale and equal value as the built structures-a new way to sum up architecture.
(Junya Ishigami – Architect)

I saw the ancient garden.
Plants and a cluster of ancient buildings no longer used.
There, in this space, the relation between interior and exterior, nature and artificial is ever so ambiguous.
It obliterates the boundary line between the things around us.
I try to make jeweler which is not only an object but also as a small landscape.

EXPO ‘CON-DECORADOS’ – Galería Klimt02, Barcelona (ES) – 27 Fevr.-22 Mars 2013

CON–DECORADOS was born with the intention of reinventing an icon as globally widespread as decorations, those medals that are given as a reward, that proclaim to the world that the wearer has reached great honour and recognition.
It also comes from a comment made aloud: « Everyone deserves a medal » and from picking up that comment and trying to go deeply into it. Why does that object of recognition have to be only for great warlike and human feats? Why must I be rewarded by someone else? Why can I not do it myself? Why can I not reward myself for the books I have read, for the hugs I have given, for the music I have listened to, for the untiring efforts to overcome my shyness, for laughing, for thinking, for feeling…?
All the artists who have participated in this exhibition have proven that we can make up countless medals, as many as reasons we may have to decorate ourselves, and erase the line that separates the good from the bad, the worthy from the useless, since the soul works with subtlety between light and shadow.

EXPO 'OP VOORRAAD' - POPS up at KLIMT02 Gallery, Barcelona (ES) - 28 Nov.-22 Dec. 2012 dans BARCELONA archiefshop

OP VOORRAAD shows the jewellery in what appears to be a hardware shop including its typical perforated walls, supermarket trolleys, cash register, price labels and jewellery displayed in blister packaging.
This intriquing combination succeeds in its aim to trigger the nerve of consumerism and provides a sparkling place where new jewellery design can both be admired and purchased.

OP VOORRAAD shows work of around seventy renowned as well as young international designers. For this concept the designers produce a jewellery multiple in an edition of five. Beginning of each year the collection will be completely renewed. Most of the 360 pieces of the collection 2012 are handmade.

EXPO ‘Lisa Walker : Powderly’ – Klimt02 gallery, Barcelona (SP) – 19 Sept.-19 Oct. 2012

« Lisa Walker : Powderly » exhibition at Klimt02 gallery on Sept 19

Klimt02  Gallery presents in Barcelona Powderly a new exhibition by new Zealand artist Lisa Walker. « Powderly is a name on a house I saw in Melbourne some weeks ago, very odd, I’ve never seen this word before and even more unusual to name a house this. I’ve been interested in unusual poetic titles lately, words that can mean many things, are quite strange the way they’re written and spoken, and have something to do with my work. » Lisa Walker

 Experimenting /
Experimenting means thinking. We think on the basis of other experiences, whether those that we have had or not.
We think what we can rather than what we want.
Lisa Walker’s approach, her experimentation, makes a lot of sense in these processes of knowledge: it offers us a body of work that from the outset cannot be easily steered through our established channels. Seeing these pieces forces us to work on new syllogisms, analogies and positions.
Lisa leads us to add a new experience: arbitrariness, perplexity, curiosity, paradox, disorientation, the everyday… everything that makes us seek out more space in our brains to broaden our thinking that little bit more: experiencing experience.
Reducing /
From a material perspective, creating means reducing. As does shifting from what is possible (everything) to the form (one). Explaining, putting into words, making sense of an artist’s work, inevitably means reducing still further. Explaining means reducing twofold. So sometimes it is better not to explain.
Since we are capable of doing exactly what we say must not be done (sound familiar?), we set about reducing: Lisa’s jewels are contemporary amulets (and how about the adjective, sound familiar?). No, they are not talisman objects, they hold no supernatural powers (well, who knows the strength of the placebo effect of the human condition?), but they most certainly belong to the approach of Duchamp and the ready-made, to the all-powerful kingdom of the will. These amulets have meaning because they offer us a new paradigm in which to rethink use, in which to generate distance and in which to be able to ‘admire’ these objects in their ‘new place’.
And if there is one thing that we as workers in the world of art would single out as a decisive factor in what it means to be creative, it is the intelligence of the will and of the power of decision that an artist has (must have). The will to select, synthesise and reconstruct is, as we understand it, what real artistic potential is about. And Lisa has it.
Let us enjoy the experience… if we can.
Showing /
And now (and among other reasons), thanks to these pieces we can perform one of our favourite tasks: exhibiting, pointing out and being quiet.
Showing. This is the main task (irrepressible task) to which we gallery owners are devoted. And yes, we second the discourse proposed by Lisa, reading and sharing the words of Leonard Cohen that she has chosen to discuss her work: simply experimenting.
No big thing, perhaps?
» I think you work out something. I wouldn’t call them ideas. I think ideas are what you want to get rid of. I don’t really like songs with ideas. They tend to become slogans. They tend to be on the right side of things: ecology or vegetarianism or antiwar. All these are wonderful ideas but I like to work on a song until those slogans, as wonderful as they are, dissolve into deeper convictions of the heart. I never set out to write a didactic song. It’s just my experience. All I’ve got to put in a song is my own experience.“  /   Leonard Cohen interview / interviewer Dorian Lynskey /  The Guardian February 2012 – Text by klimt02 / © klimt02 bcn

« Barcelona Jewellery: Found in Translation« , or how the Barcelona experience influenced the work of 7 jewellery artists. EXPO ‘La Disparition par Benjamin Lignel’ – Klimt02 Gallery, Barcelona (Spain) – 30 Juin-21 Juill. 2011

Klimt02  Gallery presents in Barcelona La Disparition, a project by Benjamin Lignel that involves three series of badges, images of clouds on gold backgrounds, an oversized leather case and an explanatory publication with almost no text.

La Disparition involves three series of badges, images of clouds on gold backgrounds, an oversized leather case and an explanatory publication with almost no text.
The title of the installation, the disappearance, reflects both what each series shows – the frame by frame dissolution of a cloud – and the series’ gradual collapse, as badges get sold, given or lost. The project aims to challenge the nature of badges as carrier of bite-size ideologies: individual badges from La Disparition will not make any sense unless given a context (the series) and a narrative (the disappearance of a cloud).

BOOK :

La disparition, with Enrico Bartolucci
Paris: Benjamin Lignel, 2010

A flip-book was produced to show Season 1 as an animation, but it won’t necessarily help visitors get over their frustration with this seemingly pointless project: it, too, will gradually loose its pages as time goes by.

This publication is the outcome of a collaboration between photographer Enrico Bartolucci, and designer Benjamin Lignel. It received the generous support of Les Compagnons du Sagittaire (printers in Rennes, F).

Edition of 600 copies

JOYA’s goal is to promote national and international artists through distribution and
communication; supporting contemporary jewellery design and helping its growth in a hardly
exploited market. Moreover, JOYA is a platform for artists’ interaction, sharing of experiences, and discussion of their common issues – the place for exchange among artists, press, distributors and audience.
JOYA offers the designers a comfortable space and pleasant environment to make contacts and exhibit their pieces. Since the subject of the event changes each edition, the artists are supplied by basic and flexible furniture (table, chairs and lighting) that can easily be adopted according their own needs.

The registration is free and all entries must be submitted from February 15th, 2010 to May 30th, 2010. No entries out of deadline will be accepted.

« Leo Caballero and Amador Bertomeu, both from Barcelona, met in the late 90s while sharing a studio-workshop. In 2003 they began the on-line website, Klimt02 which has become the go-to website for all matters that involve art jewelry worldwide. Last year (2008) they opened a gallery space in Barcelona. At this year’s SNAG conference in Philadelphia, Leo gave an informative lecture about the web and its relation to art jewelry. He also attended an informal lunch and discussion with AJF members who were on the Philadelphia trip hosted by Velvet da Vinci owners Elizabeth Shypertt and Mike Holmes.«  (AJF Interview 2009)
