SATURATION POINT / Naama Bergman

Artist Reception/ opening reception :  Saturday Sept. 17, 6-8 pm
saturation point - Gal. Loupe - Naama Bergman

Gallery Loupe is proud to present Saturation Point, the first solo exhibition by Israeli artist Naama Bergman ; the show will feature her most recent works. Through inventive, impeccably fabricated jewelry and vessels, Bergman exploits the idea of change: emergence, growth, decay, and the tension that accrues between cultural heritage, physical matter, and fleeting time. By combining contradictory materials such as steel and rust within classic formats like urns and pods, she questions the essence of creation, potential, and transformation; she provokes a confrontation between preservation and decomposition, while at the same time positing questions about the hegemony, function, and mutability of mediums and forms. Bergman makes protean objects that tell a continuing tale about the very nature of existence.
Tradition and nostalgia play major roles in Bergman’s aesthetic. As a Sabra of east European heritage, she regards her work as tropes for the dichotomy between familial roots and present day reality. In her latest works, Bergman allows salt to grow slowly upon vessels, pendants, and brooches made from iron mesh. The openwork armatures are hard but delicately crafted, while the salt – a natural preservative – both helps to maintain the rigid support but also breaks it down. Although constantly altering, these pristine objects and jewels are simultaneously frozen in time. Other works will be presented that possess similar existential and cultural references, although they are made from very different substances, such as jewelry wet-molded into shape from animal intestines that have been treated in a salt solution – meant to be viewed as reminders of their former natural life.

EXPO ‘Georg Dobler and Margit Jäschke : Twogether’ – Gallery Loupe, Montclair (NJ), (USA) – 12 Avril- 4 Mai 2014

« Georg Dobler and Margit Jäschke :Twogether«

When considering the jewelry of Georg Dobler and Margit Jäschke, partners in life as in art, the sheer beauty of each object can obscure the subtle strength of layered meaning. Both utilize structure, surface, texture, and color to create brooches and necklaces of perfect proportion and gestural grace. They each assemble their chosen materials, but where Dobler’s 3-D mélanges rely additionally upon negative space or geometric planes of saturated hue, Jäschke opts for visual disparity within dense pictorial imagery. Dobler combines silver and gold with huge faceted gemstones or sleek glass shards to create powerful compositions, while Jäschke juxtaposes metal and minerals with common substances like cardboard, epoxy, lead, and rubber, rendered elegant by her hand. They both derive inspiration from nature – Dobler sometimes combining twigs, buds, or beetles, cast from actual flora and fauna; Jäschke, compositions of organic mother-of-pearl or coral with paper or plastic. Reveling in the joy of life and growth, they each also find poetry in distress and decay.

The couple lives in Halle, Germany. Dobler, an artist of international stature, is a multiple winner of the coveted Herbert Hofmann Prize and is represented in numerous museum collections, including the Metropolitan Museum of Art, Museum of Arts and Design, and Cooper-Hewitt National Design Museum in New York, Stedelijk Museum, Amsterdam, Schmuckmuseum, Pforzheim, Victoria & Albert Museum, London, and Musée de Beaux-Arts, Montreal, Canada. Jäschke’s work is in the Metropolitan Museum of Art and Grassi Museum für Angewandte Kunst, Leipzig.

EXPO ‘Attai Chen: Compounding Fractions’ – Gallery Loupe, Montclair (NJ)(USA) – 7 Sept.-5 Oct. 2013

Classé dans : Attai CHEN (IL),Exposition/Exhibition,Gal. Loupe (US),USA — bijoucontemporain @ 0:09

Attai Chen: Compounding Fractions -     07-Sep-2013 – 05-Oct-2013

Over the past few years Attai Chen has received much international attention. In 2011 he won the coveted Herbert Hofman Prize at the Schmuck Art Fair in Munich and was recently awarded the prestigious 2014 Andrea M. Bronfman Prize for the Arts for which he will be given a solo exhibition at the Tel Aviv Museum and an accompanying catalog.
Chen’s current series of work is inspired by his observations of nature and his interest in the cyclical motion of growth and decay. Titled « Compounding Fractions » – this new exhibition features neckpieces and brooches built from torn scraps of recycled paper, color, graphite and other elements. Chen heightens the mystery of his message by including personal notes and drawings onto the paper before the process begins.

In the artist’s words, « The process of recycling follows the pattern of growth, culmination, consummation and decay, only to begin again. It is my intention in these works to trace and create forms that capture this organic process in a man-made world.«

EXPO ‘Deganit Stern-Schocken: In the Air’ – Gallery Loupe, Montclair (NJ – USA) – 6-30 Avril 2013

Classé dans : Deganit STERN SCHOCKEN (IL),Exposition/Exhibition,Gal. Loupe (US),USA — bijoucontemporain @ 23:57

Deganit Stern-Schocken: In the Air‘ at Gallery Loupe From April 6 until April 30, 2013

« In this newest body of work, Stern-Schocken explores her earlier forms and imbues them with weightlessness.  This investigation stems from her interest in the ‘non-object’  and focuses on the space between the objects rather than on the object itself. The stones set into the brooches and pendants appear to be ‘in the air.’  Stern-Schocken’s silver and stainless steel structures attempt to ‘float’ the stone, while giving a sense of movement with intricately constructed hinges and mechanisms.  Some of the pendants involve cut-outs from airplane safety instructions that speak quite literally to being ‘in the air,’ being en route while at the same time being in danger. The tension between the pending catastrophe described in these little vignettes and the optimistic ‘smiley’ graphics, is captured in the metal frames. According to Stern-Schocken, In the Air was inspired by the design philosophy put forward in « NONOBJECT » – a book by designers Branko Lukić and Barry M. Kātz (MIT Press, 2011) in which they state:   »Nonobject is an approach to design that takes advantage of technical innovation but is not driven by it. It is human centered but doesn´t pander to the market. It starts not with the user or the object, but with the space between. »

EXPO ‘Psychomanteum’ – Gallery Loupe, Montclair, NJ (USA) – 17 Nov.-6 Dec. 2012

Gallery Loupe  -   NEW DATE for Nicole Polentas SHOW AND TALK …
Nicole will now be speaking at Brooklyn Metal Works on Friday Nov. 16th at 7 pm and not on Nov. 11th as originally planned.

Gallery Loupe - NEW DATE for Nicole Polentas SHOW AND TALK...Nicole will now be speaking at Brooklyn Metal Works on Friday Nov. 16th at 7 pm and not on Nov. 11th as originally planned.

Nicole Polentas currently resides in Australia, but her connection to her family’s origins in Crete are an important influence on her jewelry. An accomplished gold and silversmith, she draws on her Greek heritage for inspiration and for the unique manner in which she exhibits her current body of work – in a setting meant to depict the psychomanteum – the naturally occurring rockpools of myth where ancient Greeks would go to consult the oracles.
Polentas has created her personal psychomanteum using plinths to display her jewelry. The installation includes water in order to re-create the aquatic area where one could commune with the gods. The jewelry pieces themselves are fascinating and intricate constructions of metal wire and steel sheets, sterling silver, plastic and paint, ornamented with personal photographs and bits of traditional music from Crete known as riztitka. For the artist, the song fragments are a bridge to her sense of belonging to a place she is rooted but no longer lives – her past and present become connected in her very personal jewelry.
Nicole Polentas will speak at Brooklyn Metal Works on Friday evening, Nov. 16 at 7pm.

Darcy Miro: Part of a Whole

Darcy Miro - Gallery Loupe
Darcy Miro‘s metal forms in sterling silver, bronze and 18kt gold are a melding of her highly evolved metalsmithing skills and a love for the organic. Her mixed metal cuffs, rings, bracelets and earrings are formed through techniques such as piercing and constructing collage-like forms. Her work references nature, architecture and the body with the relationships explained by the artist in this way: « I think the connections between people, their creations and nature is a flow, which I am capturing. »

Miro is inspired by closely observing nature and archaeology…an event as simple as watching ants bore holes in a piece of dead wood or noticing a pile of leaves decaying. As she says, « I observe the tiniest of incidents, translating the information from tools to wax. » After carving individual pieces in wax the parts are cast in metal and then joined and assembled. Finally, the work is buffed, polished, pickled, or undergoes other processes to add color, durability and texture.

THAT’S SO EBENDORF – PIECES PAST AND PRESENT: Robert Ebendorf

Oct 11 – Nov 06, 2011

"That's So Ebendorf-Pieces Past and Present" Exhibition by Robert Ebendorf at Gallery Loupe

Robert Ebendorf began recycling the ordinary things that society discards long before “re-purposing” became a fashionable buzzword.  His jewelry charms and delights the eye and the mind without the need for the use of precious materials.
Encouraged by his mother to follow his artistic bent as a child growing up in Kansas, he went on to receive a degree in Metal and Jewelry Design from the University of Kansas, Lawrence followed by a Masters degree in 3-Dimensional Design.  Equally beloved as a teacher as he is an artist, he has taught at the State University of New York at New Paltz and several important craft schools.  He has been the Carol Grotnes Belk Distinguished Professor in the Department of Art at East Carolina University in Greenville, NC  since 1999.  He has  also worked in Oslo, Norway, first on a Fulbright scholarship and later with a Louis Comfort Tiffany grant.
A founding member of SNAG, the Society of North American Goldsmiths, he became one of its first presidents.  He is considered by many to be one of the most outstanding figures in American craft today.
Robert Ebendorf’s work can be found in renowned museums and private collections worldwide

EXPO ‘SUBSET SYNERGISM – TALES OF MIGRATION’ -Gallery Loupe (US) – 1er-30 Juin 2011

Classé dans : Andrea WAGNER (NL),Exposition/Exhibition,Gal. Loupe (US),USA — bijoucontemporain @ 9:27

SUBSET SYNERGISM – TALES OF MIGRATION Andrea Wagner

In today’s multi-cultural world many people live in a place where they were not born. This presents challenges as well as cause for celebration for those who must fuse more than one culture into their psyche. For jewelry artist Andrea Wagner, the expression of her own experience is palpable in her most recent collection of jewelry.

Born in Germany, raised in Canada, and residing for 16 years in Amsterdam, Andrea has a trifecta of cultures to meld into her identity…and she chooses her work to explain how that has coalesced for her.

Andrea Wagner studied at the Staaliche Zeichenakademie in Hanau, Germany and at the Gerrit Rietveld Academy in Amsterdam. Maintaining a studio in Amsterdam, she has had numerous solo exhibitions at galleries including: Gallery Noel Guyomarc’h, Montreal; Petra Spuybroek and Gallery Louise Smit, both in The Netherlands, Gallery Aurum, Frankfurt, Germany and Galeria Reverso, Lisbon, Portugal. Her work can be found in the permanent collections of the Museum of Fine Arts, Montreal, the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston, the Landesmuseum, Zurich, as well as others. She has been the recipient of numerous grants and artist-inresidence programs.
