« spatialPalace » group is a group of jewellery artists whose activities are linked to the Estonian Academy of Arts: Kadri Mälk, Tanel Veenre, Piret Hirv, Eve Margus-Villems, Kristiina Laurits and Villu Plink.

About jewellery :
*Professor David Watkins has written about Kadri Mälk`s creations:
Her selections from the chaos of life … offer bridges of meaning between experience and memory, between the mind and the senses. Crucially, everything is fixed by the many gestures of making, in the same way that the complete composition in painting can be held together by the handling of paint on surface. The objects offer intimations of shared experience. They frame private worlds within a capricious external world.
*Tanel Veenre: a beautiful piece of jewellery is exciting. Excitement is a quality that comes into being upon collapse of the quantifiable and measurable into the inexplicable and personal. Fleeing from gold-edged emptiness binds the artist’s soul with the thing being created. It’s all somehow wordlessly conspirational. Artist and jewellery become witnesses to a crime in which they are both complicit.
* Piret Hirv’s signs of suspense mostly cause muteness. To live means to be lost (J. Ortega y Gasset). Who does not feel lost, will certainly lose his way, i.e. will never find himself. And only the brightening in the tree tops may show the way out of the forest. (Kadri Mälk)
* Especially lavish are the so-called luxury items of Kristiina Laurits. The lacy, sensuously curved, sometimes useless items and brooches are like peculiar ecstatic whim. It is unpredictable and irrational. It makes us smile.(Kadri Mälk)
* For Eve Margus, transparently glowing, dreamlike materials make the disturbance, when coming in touch with reality, physically palpable. Engraved translucent quartz and chalcedony and opal, carved silky horn and antlers, are tactile in themselves, like their treatment here. (Kadri Mälk)
* The work of Villu Plink is male and laconic, and it is different. He is picturesque and full of images. An image holds, and is not to be disputed. (Kadri Mälk)

bagues argent et feutre

In 1997 Michaela Binder presented a variable jewelry system with a collection crafted from silver and exchangeable colored felt elements. While gemstones provide the color in other designer’s creations, these pieces are lit up by brightly colored felt: soft and supple, saucy and easily exchangeable. In another collection of hers, fluffy mink on rings or silver bangles makes for an unusual visual and haptic experience. All her works are dominated by minimalist shapes such as squares, rectangles and circles made of brushed silver, recently also complemented by floral elements. Michaela Binder, who also creates impressive metal vessels, loves to overcome traditional notions associated with jewelry. Samples of her oeuvre can be admired in the Musée des Arts Décoratifs in Paris, among others. (ArtAurea)

COUP de COEUR ! « SchmuckVIRUS » by Su KROKER

 Su Kroker

« All the works created by Su Kroker are characterized by their textile nature as well as gently flowing, vividly structured shapes thanks to being finely crocheted. Visiting us from the world of fairy-tales these “dream webs” invite us to withdraw from everything cruel and loud. Handcrafted from silver or gold, each piece is a one-of-a-kind creation, even if some of them are crafted as part of a small series. Su Kroker got the idea for her “jewelry viruses” during a walk in the summer when she saw burrs sticking to her children’s clothes. Inspired by this concept of Mother Nature Su Kroker started distributing her “jewelry viruses” at all the trade shows so as to “infect” other people and thus spread her rather “quiet” pieces all over the world. Her Schmuckvirus, she says, is “a virus that spreads fun and makes you happy!” » (ArtAurea)

Isabell SCHAUPP  new work
« Due to their partly technical partly organic appearing shapes my new jewelery works seem to belong to a yet unknown flora and fauna. Photos of satellite, funnel and tentacle like wire structures talk an emblematic sort of language. Time and again these delicate wire structures emerge from the surface, appearing to stretch out towards the observer.
The objects become minute amulets and catalysts, attempting to establish direct contact with the environment

EXPO ‘Mirjam Hiller – The Graphics to her Jewellery’ – Galerie Pilartz, Cologne (DE) – Sept. 2010

Mirjam Hiller : The Graphics to her Jewellery

As of now the gallery shows not only jewellery by Mirjam Hiller, but also her graphics that go along with it. These prints show the patterns from which her jewellery arises. They document quite impressively that the artist shapes her jewellery from one piece as foreseen in her “construction plan”.

EXPO 'Mirjam Hiller - The Graphics to her Jewellery' - Galerie Pilartz, Cologne (DE) - Sept. 2010 dans Allemagne (DE) Mirjam_Hiller_16
Mirjam Hiller Drumonia – brooch – stainless steel powdercoating, titanium

Mirjam Hiller on her creative process: “At first there is a thought, a very vivid, three-dimensional thought of a form, a room that I can go into. I explore it and let it enchant me. I would like to grasp and experience it over and over again.
The form is very complex, built of different colours, structures, shapes and scents and depending from where I look, everything changes.
I have to make decisions, reduce it to the essentials and find a way for a logical realization in order to give the construct of my thoughts, which is by no means logical, a place in this world of tangible things. I focus myself on one kind of material, one colour; everything else distracts me and redirects my thoughts. I capture the three-dimensional form that spreads out in front of my inner eye, unfold it to the second dimension, sketch it and cut it out with the awareness that every cut is a final one.”

The cut out drawing lies in front of me,
one flat piece,
my unfolded thought.
I bend and fold it to the third dimension.
I’m excited to see if it really grows the way that I’ve imagined.
I enter the room again,
half in thoughts, half in reality.

The juxtaposition of graphics and jewellery creates an extraordinary tension. Even if seen independently from the jewellery pieces that grow from them, the graphics emanate something autonomous, mysterious and leave a lot of room for the imagination.
Its viewers come up with very different and intuitive associations: Are they motifs of Australian Aborigines? Are they drawings used to classify plants? Medical illustrations? Machinery construction plans? A city in a bird’s eye view?
The graphics, from which her jewellery results, show very nicely how Mirjam Hiller’s thoughts on jewellery “unfold”.

« As of now Volker Atrops has occupied himself with jewellery for 25 years. What started with picked to pieces rosaries and fishhooks was imperceptibly transformed by a classic goldsmith and art academy education. Along with sketches, photos and books we show the often very simple jewellery works and are looking forward to your curiosity.

Classé dans : Allemagne (DE),Exposition/Exhibition,Herman HERMSEN (NL) — bijoucontemporain @ 1:44

Herman Hermsen graduated from the Arnhem Academy of Fine Art 30 years ago and since 1992 is professor in the product and design department of the University of Applied Sciences, Düsseldorf. Commuting between various places of work and interchanging professional duties can be unsettling, but it is also inspirational and puts things into perspective. Herman Hermsen’s designs are in keeping with a minimalist and conceptual tradition. The quest for innovative interpretations and a balanced relationship between the decorative and the constructive inform all his work. But he is also no stranger to irony and playfulness. Diversity, clarity and serial production make his work appealing and accessible in equal measure.
